Wk of April 6 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi team! I got 9.3 miles in this morning in 1:45:38. The snow is pretty well all gone now. The temperature was 37 deg when I started, but quickly warmed up to 50 or so while I was out there so I was a tad bit overdressed. The run felt great though!

Hope everyone has a terrific weekend!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Firedancer, I am so jealous. I loved Italy. I am hoping to go back next spring. (April/May?) I hope the dollar makes a small comeback for you!

Leana, Mike and your other WISHers from the North, I am impressed. I am such a wimp about cold weather. I am worried about my 4 mile tomorrow, high is only suppose to be 55! :)

Angie, Sorry about the back

Jen, what cute girls!

I went to the Y last night and did 3 miles on the TM. Again at a great pace (for me, not for anyone else, but it's all realitive)

I went on line and found a 10K for next weekend not to far from me. I think I may do it since my plan calls for 7 miles and I was not looking forward to it. That would be 6.2 so I just have to wander around for another .8 someplace LOL! My event that was scheduled for next weekend (non-running) got cancelled due to lack of participation yesterday.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Carol - Which 10k are you thinking about doing?? cheerios Challenge or Corners to Crossing? Don't know if you've been there, but www.rungeorgia.com has a great comprehensive listing of races :)

Leana - Glad to see the run went great!! Why did you do 9.3? Hmmm...15k...;) Has that bronchitis disappeared yet??

Maura
- Almost halfway through the rest week :) Hope the XT went well today!

Claire - Love the idea of the weather bubble! Congrats on completing the 11 miler, even though your left arm was falling asleep. I've had it get a little tingly in the elbow area from holding form so long and yes, did the arm shake thing a couple times each mile. It seems to have stopped happening as my body has gotten used to running longer distances.

Martha - How'd the 6 miler go today??

Angie - Congrats on the 10 miler!! Speedy one too :goodvibes: Hope this year's Minnie is everything you want it to be.

TXAng - Good luck finding a race, I'd think there should be a lot available this time of year :)

Christa
- Me peeking at O'hana? Never. ;) Sorry to hear about the half, but nice ride! Racking up the bike miles this week I see :)

Jen - What a great photo of your kids!! Thanks for sharing :goodvibes:

Debra - I am SO HAPPY for you! You deserved a great trip to WDW and it looks like you got it :) (I think I know someone who is going to secretly splurge on the Poly come January, so it's cool to know that it "worked" for you :) ) Thanks for sharing the photo and it's good to have your creative and witty posting self back on the threads! As far as your question, I'm upping the miles to simply be more prepared for Goofy next year...can't hurt to try and log as many safe miles as possible. I do try to maintain a base that will allow me to run a Half or smaller race on any given weekend...and I'm trying to increase my Saturday activities to also be better prepared for Goofy '09.

Stephanie - seeing your post reminded me of seeing you two blow by us during the marathon...was so kind of you guys to slow for a second and say hello though :)

Carrie - Negativity for the final 9 miles of the marathon course? You mean you don't like those hot, open, lonely overpasses and the grueling out and back?? :rotfl: I'm with you, I want to have FUN on that part during the Minnie!

Amy
- Love the video camera idea!! (gonna start charging some batteries!) Maybe we could record an on location "Pilates with Amy" class while we're at it! I'm sure we could find some nice locales around Coronado...maybe that grassy area by that hammock :) OR we could record you doing your favorite 7 attractions, send it to WDW and then everyone could see you playing endless repeats on WDW television :) Hope the weekend is good for you and GOOD LUCK tomorrow on the long run.

Scott's World
- Friday night I went to the FC and did 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes on the stationary bike, then came home and did 30 minutes of Pilates. Today I waited for the rain showers to pass and then headed to the Silver Comet for my longest bike ride ever...30 miles. I did it in 1:45:01, which is a 17.1mph pace, something I'm pretty stoked about :) Now I'm just chilling out & resting up for tomorrow's 10 mile run.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!!

Mel & Jeff,

I just received my Race Ready shirts in the mail. :cool1:

Thanks so much for organizing orders, and mailing out to all us WISHers.

Mahalo!

Scott, Thanks for the link. I was using the Atlanta Track Club's site. The one I was looking at is Corners to Crossing. That's not far from where I live.

And my really good news... I ordered a Garain 205 and it arrived today. A new toy. (I really wanted the 405, but I am beginning to think it might no ever arrive so I figure I will put it on hold and maybe get it from "Waldo" for a gift later...)

I am reading my directions while it charges now and plan to take it on my four mile tomorrow! The big problem is I have a SMALL wrist (probably the only part of me that's small LOL!) and this thing is HUGE on it!

Craig You must be a mind reader I actually set out to do "10 minute miles" today. I did do 10 mnute miles (believe it or not) the first 3. I don't know what happens? :confused3 ( I got quite the talking to when I got home :confused3) I know you are right I really do, and thanks for confirming what I already know. I find myself running then i start figuring out what times I need to be running what pace and then it gets out of hand. I think deep dwon I am so desperate to be where I was a year a go that I am pushing myself too hard.

Angie: I have to agree with Craig........CHILL OUT!! Take it easy on yourself. Don't be so hard on yourself. Just think, you could push too much and then injure something and out you go!!
It will come, I tend not to push my pace on long walks like I do on the shorter walks.
It'll come in time, you just have to be willing to let it happen/

Jen: Your DDs are so cute!! :cheer2:

Christa: No 1/2 marathon so you were "forced" to bike 21 miles! Because that will help you prepare for your own personal 1/2. After all, why bother witha taper? :confused3 :rotfl2: I'm working on getting over the urban-biking phenomenon. Once spring is fully sprung I'll be more comfortable--I just need to bike regularly on the roads.

Kristen: Maybe you could charge the plumber for your missed WO hours??? Good luck with your garage cleaning, too!

Aloha Jeff: Only you would focus on the adults-only part of that post. :lmao: What can I say? I've always claimed that WDW & DL offers a lot of entertainment for us adults, too!

TXAng: Your decision not to do the 5K makes a lot of sense when put that way. Save those entry fees for a future event! :thumbsup2 I bet you that you'll find other strollers at the mall and maybe you could get a little baby Nascar action going. (Ask Vic to establish the ground rules.)

Angie: WTG with the double digit run! And I think it's only natural that you should get a little choked up. You've had a trying year, a good recovery (which naturally includes some off runs), and a lot of life changes recently--including that job. Plus the Minnie is coming up fast. I truly believe that running not only helps us become healthier, manage stress, and find inner strength--it taps into our emotions at a deep level. I hesitate to use the phrase, "Get in touch with ourselves," but I do think that running helps us do that, helps us become better versions of ourselves. So I don't think your reaction is all that surprising. P.S. I agree with Craig's suggestions to stay injury free--and hope you cut yourself some slack & take the time to enjoy yourself.

Craig: Ahhh, the Brady Bunch. I had a college roommate named Marcia once. You can imagine how much mileage I got out of "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia." I never tired of that. Martha is lucky to have someone with your sense of humor (as I'm sure she knows); conversely, you're lucky to have someone with her patience (projecting DOOD's patience and my gratitude onto the two of you).

Martha: See above--I see you two as another WISH couple made in heaven. I love the way you casually brush off your additional mileage--it's just easier to run more than to track the distance. ;) That's the kind of perspective I need to gain.

Tracy: 82 degrees before 9 a.m.? In April? Whew--I'm melting just thinking about it. No wonder you FL folk are up and running so early, even when at Disney. Between you and Leana I'm coming to appreciate PA's moderate climate.

Mike: I bet you're going to appreciate biking outdoors even more after all your elliptical WOs. The weather just has to turn spring-y for you soon. Right?

Claire: Hmmm, then I'll need to go with seasonal munchies for you, too. I have to say how impressed I am that you claim to be exercising less, but less includes horseback riding, an 11 miler, and skating, among other things. Conrats on your BF's house purchase, which called for a banana-split celebration (what doesn't). And thanks for the heads-up about 21; DOOD & I both want to see the film as it sounds like entertaining, escapist fun.

Cecilia: :yay: for your feels-so-good-I-can't-hold-back runs. I love hearing about those, and hope you have them regularly.

Maura: Both Pooh and Eeyore make me want to squeeze their cute bellies. I like Eeyore a lot, although sometimes I feel he's a little too "up" for my personality. I'm glad to hear you're resting on the recommendations of 10 out of 10 WISHers (sounds like an ad, doesn't it?). The Ghiradelli makes it really seem like a rest day, IMO, and a worthwhile one at that!

Leana: Great run & time. I wish I could say it sounded warm, but it does sound a lot warmer than what you've been having. It sounds like everything went well for you!! :woohoo:

CarolA: I think your plan for the 10K to fit with your 7-mile schedule is an excellent idea. Now I need to see if there's a 10K here locally next weekend that I wouldn't mind paying the fee for and/or driving to. Thanks for the great suggestion--and I know you're going to do just great! And :yay: for your new Garmin toy.

Scott: Thanks for the information on increasing your base (plus all your other great comments--yes, yes, yes on the Poly). I don't know if you know this, but I kind of jumped into the Goofy '08 against my better judgement--heck, I had no judgement. Now I'm trying to go back & build that base, as I won't be going Goofy again until 2010. So I really appreciate you taking the time to provide me with your rationale; I like the idea of being prepared to do a 1/2 at any given point, too. :scratchin Also good? Pilates with Amy, on location. Avoid the cheesy, new-age music that accompanies such videos though--maybe the "Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life" instead? P.S. 30 biking miles. One sitting? Outdoors? :faint: My legs, I can't feel my legs--or other body parts.

As for me: Well, I did it--finished my 8 miler. I managed to run 30 minutes before switching over to my RW. I wish I could have run longer, but I wasn't feeling it. I wasn't eating particularly well the past couple of days, and I think it caught up with my. I thought it better to switch to the RW earlier than I anticipated & complete the distance rather than to risk running out of steam completely.

My time ended up being 1:29 and some change. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't do better, but I am more pleased that I didn't punk out & quit, which I wanted to do a couple of times. I spend some post-run time doing some easy biking, which I truly think helps me cool down nicely and helps my knees.

Dh came home for lunch which about sent me into a coma.

Then he adds that he got our license plates renewed for me. (He seemed to think that my leaving them on the kitchen counter for two weeks was a hint for him to do it and not just laziness on my part.)

Imagine his surprise when I was NOT happy that he did this. My face fell and I said "but I wanted a special license plate." He doesn't say anything more about it all lunch. He leaves and goes back to work.

Twenty minutes ago, I go out to my car to get a letter I left in it. I see a temporary tag on the window. Huh? Inside the car is a receipt for a special license plate!!! It's mine! 39 PT 3

Dh has been raking in the brownie points today! I wonder what he wants?(jk)
