Dh came home for lunch which about sent me into a coma.

Then he adds that he got our license plates renewed for me. (He seemed to think that my leaving them on the kitchen counter for two weeks was a hint for him to do it and not just laziness on my part.)

Imagine his surprise when I was NOT happy that he did this. My face fell and I said "but I wanted a special license plate." He doesn't say anything more about it all lunch. He leaves and goes back to work.

Twenty minutes ago, I go out to my car to get a letter I left in it. I see a temporary tag on the window. Huh? Inside the car is a receipt for a special license plate!!! It's mine! 39 PT 3

Dh has been raking in the brownie points today! I wonder what he wants?(jk)

Quick report.

I went for a four mile maintenance run yesterday. That's all I could handle in the heat and VOG (volcano fog made up of sulfur dioxide). I called it a day when my breathing was affected. :crazy2:

There are southerly winds carrying all the VOG from the Big Island to all other islands. Kilauea volcano is wreaking havoc for everyone who has asthma or other breathing alilments. My normal scenic drive this morning was shrouded in a grey haze.

And to top it off, we're under a flash flood advisory. Possible chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.

If this keeps up, I'll just have to stay home and watch the Masters golf tournament all week. :rotfl:

Yay to Carrie! My original WISH shirts arrived in the mail. WHOO HOOO, new uniforms for Mooshu and I to race in.

Cruella de mom: Yay, post of picture of your new plates when they are mounted on your car. I'm still trying to figure out what I want.

Have a great day everyone. Thanks for all the support this week.

Cam - WTG on teh work outs!

PungoAngie - SOrry, no idea.

Cecelia - Yup, I'd definitely be suspicious! ;) COngrats on teh new plate!

Judy - WTG on the work out w/o coughing! Yay!

Jeff - You mean there are actually days when it's better to run in MI? :rotfl:

Scott - So, is that encouragement or are you preparing for blackmail? :rotfl: Hope you and Amy have plenty of time to wait for me to come through after you. ;)

Kevin- stay safe! Nuf said.
Cam and Howard- good to see you're both alive:) Same for you, Judith Anne.

The reality of PCSing to Hawai'i is setting in as my orders are at the RFO stage and I got a packet from Human Resources at Tripler via Fed Ex today. OMG, I'm going to have a real job, be an active duty Army officer, and the most scary thing of all- I'll be "The Doctor."

Been riding lots, not much running other than the little jaunt in Michigan with my sister, Carrie, Scott, Margie and the WISHers on Sunday. Triathlon season starts Apr 27th so I'm training and working on stuff for moving.

Since I screwed up the hat order(mailing someone's hat to the wrong person with no way to trace where it went) I'm looking at alternatives to make it right for that person. Please see this thread:

Lynne

Hi everyone. I am new to the boards and thought I would introduce myself. I do so over at the "Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008" thread and it was suggested I do it here also.

I'm glad I am not the only one who loves doing the runs at Disney. Unfortunately I am 1,200 hundred miles away and getting down for all the runs is not possible...at least not if I want to continue to pay the mortgage. I couldn't really find a good place to introduce myself so I am doing it here. Hopefully I will get to interact more with you guys. I am trying to talk some of my non-running friends to join my in DL for the half over Labor Day weekend. If I can sell them on it I will be there to try and finally break 90 minutes in the half.

See you guys on the boards.

Aaah, PCSing, in-processing, newcomers briefings, etc., etc., etc. Remember them well. You're going to do just fine. Guess I'll have to render a salute the next time I see you. :)

Just remember one thing. Your NCOs can make or break you. You take care of them, they'll take care of you.

Lynne -- So nice to see you here, sweetie! Sorry that someone hasn't come forward to surrender the extra visor and that your task is not yet done. Good luck with getting ready for your move!

Carrie – Hope your quads are feeling better. I don’t think that biking instead of running is wimping out at all!

Tracey – Wow! Congrats to your DS! And there is nothing wrong with taking some time for yourself – it’s good for you AND good for your kids to see you doing it.

Leana – Boo for bronchitis!! Hope you feel better soon! :wizard:

Martha – Sorry the run wasn’t good, but at least you got it done!

Stephanie – Hi! Great job on the 4-miler!

Debra – Yay, you’re back! Did y’all have a fun trip?

Duckie – More :grouphug: to you.

Amy – Enjoy your “rest” day – though taking care of a 5 month old isn’t really a complete rest! Hope you and your niece have fun!

Cam – Hitting the gym every morning at 5:45? You’re my hero! That’s awesome.

Scott – Nice 10K!

Cecilia – You got the plate!! Yay!! What a sweet DH.

FireDancer – :welcome:

We took DS to get his 3-month portraits this morning, which was fun! We actually got a couple of smiles out of him, so I'm considering it a great succes. :)

Does anyone know about mall-walking? We got to the mall before it opened (our photo appointment was the first one of the day), and I noticed that the main mall area was already open and there were folks walking around. DH says that's why they open the mall early.

Would it be rude of me to go with the stroller and run/walk there sometimes? I know it's mostly for older folks to be able to walk, so I don't want to intrude if I'm not allowed. :confused3

I've been to the mall to walk. I have taken a stroller, although I found that a front pack or a backpack works better because then you can do the stairs. Our mall puts out coat racks to hang up your coat (or umbrella). Everyone that I've encountered has been really nice and they LOVE to see the babies. I'm not sure that the mall would allow you to run, it might be a safety issue. I've done a pretty speedy walk and alot of the older folks there are pretty speedy themselves. I think our mall opens 2 hours early. I think that you'd find it a good option on a rainy or cold day.:)

Lynne

:rotfl2: I need a translation to English for us non-military types.

(I got the feeling you are joining hte Army and being stationed in Hawaii?? Sounds better then Kevin's posting LOL!)

Kevin, thanks for the update. Stay safe!

Ang, I used to work in a mall and you and the stroller would be welcome, but the running probably won't be. (The malls tend to dislike the running since they think you could fall and injure yourself) However, prepare youself, I bet those senior citizens just eat up your cute little one.

FireDancer. Welcome. I am fairly new and everyone's so nice!

Jeff, volcano fog may be the ONLY thing you have come up with about living in Hawaii that's doesn't sound appealing (Granted we have not heard about the cost to live there which I hear is high!)

Cecilia, well I will know it's you when I see you around Atlanta. Congrats on the license plate!

As for me, I have to brag!!! I went to the gym tonight. My training plan called for three mile run yesterday but the plane was late so it got pushed to today. (Plus I had to get home and watch the Lady Vols win NUMBER 8!!!!)

I did 3 miles in 37 min 44 seconds!!!:yay: For me that's amazing!! I am so proud of myself. My boyfriend was there and he was proud of me too. He thinks I must be getting in shape because I never turned BRIGHT RED. (I was wearing my new skirt from the shopping thread and he may not let me live that down LOL!)

Hope everyone has a great week. It's already WED!!!

Carol - Awesome!!! WTG! :thumbsup2

TXAng - You are going to share teh pix with us, right? ;)

Lynne - :grouphug:

FIre DAncer - Welcome!!!!! While we all really want to do all Disney races, we seem to have traveling teams and teams that meet in in between places. Don't know where Strongville is, but we have WISHers in Cleveland, CIncinatti, IL... You should eb able tofind other places to run with WISHers. It's the enxt best thing!

PCSing = Permanent Change of Station (relocating to another base location)

YEAH LYNNE: You're going to be in for a whole new, laidback lifestyle when you arrive in Hawaii. You're hospital, Tripler, is a few miles from where we live.

CarolA
Now you've got me started on the cost of living in Hawaii. IT IS NOT CHEAP TO LIVE HERE. Property taxes, gas, milk, groceries, planefare to/from the mainland, hotels, clothes, postage to ship to/from the mainland, etc. :sad2: I'm not wealthy, but I make do with what I earn.

The tradeoff is beautiful warm weather almost year round, except for the occasional VOG, hurricaine, tsunami. Also, no professional sports teams. And you can drive about 2 1/2 hours around the island (Oahu), before you get back to where you started.

The golf, running, hiking, biking, swimming, beaches, sunrises and sunsets are all big pluses in my book.

I've been living here for 20 years, I LOVE IT HERE. Having grown up in Northern California I sometimes miss living on the mainland. With Aloha and ATA airlines filing bankruptcy and closing, it's only going to be harder and more expensive to travel to/from the mainland, for everyone.

Evening all. Had a nice xtraiing workout today--4.5 miles on the elliptical and hten some weights

Maura--nice thought on the Minnie--but as some other WISHers know my BIL had the nerve to plan his wedding this May! So no other travelling for us that month!

Debra--hmmmm, sounds like your trip was fun! Glad to see you back and :worship: at your posts! It's amazing that you can respond to everyone!

Cam--so glad to see you gal!

And I guess I "sorta" fibbed about not having any races scheduled so far. I'm more than likely doing a 10k the first weekend of May--but since I haven't registered and Scott's work schedule could change tomorrow--nothing is definite. And now we're getting into 5K season here in AR, when it's too hot to run anything else--and I really don't like the 5K distance. Run really hard for a short distance, feeling like you might puke at the end--not my idea of fun.

Welcome to all our new teammates! I haven't been around much lately, so I appologize that it might take me awhile to get to know all of you.

Jackie: Oddly I'm quite jealous that you have a dog to walk! (I think I'm homesick and I miss my pups!)

Jen: I think you need to move much closer to a certain mouse....:smickey:

Debra: ooo ooo storytime?! [scoots up like an eager four year old with chin in hands]

Maura: You and I should swim together! We so have the same theory on slowness :rotfl:

Cecilia: Wow you are lucky to have such a good training partner and DH in one! My BF only runs if you dangle crab legs in front of him LOL then again he is one of those blessed to be naturally slim--I on the other hand... And some serious brownie points for the plate!!!

Amy: Wow enjoy that much deserved day of rest!

:hourglass

I have finished my adaptation of the Hobbit into a Readers Theatre whew! Well the rough draft anyway!

Today I had my first riding lesson in about 5 years (and my first time on a horse since August!). Definitely nice to be back and I'm hoping I wont be too sore tomorrow!

My eating is out of wack for some reason. I'm hungry all the time and I don't know why. :confused3 I take vitamins but I feel like I'm eating more than usual. Waaaa I don't want to exercise self control!

I have a 5 miler tomorrow, and this time I am not bringing the boyfriend's housemate's girlfriend's dog!

Happy running/jogging/wogging/walking/xt!

Well, once again, I had a wonderful long post responding to almost everyone...then b/4 I knew it...it was gone!

So....Just know I love everyone of you and you are the bestest!:thumbsup2

Had a tough day @ work:headache: so got on the trainer...apparently 20 miles was not enough to let out my frustrations, so I rode 30. Would have LOVED to ride outside, but by the time I got home, it was dark!

Jeff, good luck with the VOG!

Sorry, I am no way able to catch up even close to what everyone else does and definitely not as good as Debra!

Cecilia, everyone has offered the best advice to you about your time to be the better wife/Mom. Glad you can get that time. Do your best to make it guilt-free. It is the best thing you can do for you and yours.

Kevin, praying for your safe return home.

Lynne, I am so sorry that the hat has not turned up. I do WISH that those of us who have not had a chance to order one get to this time around. The hats are really great and thank you for taking on the task. Best WISHes for your transition to HI and that it is the best!

I am thrilled tonight with my steps. Thrilled! Here's my today report:

Whhhhhoo, Brrrrrrr, I just got back inside. I was going out the door with sleeveless and shorts. DS said I'd best rethink that. He just got back and used his LS shirt. So I put it on and grabbed my sweats. DH took Kirby-dog and off we went to the trail. It was 22:30 out and turn around day. I love when I am cooler and going on the trek. It was windy so I just did as Monday. I went until Nike+ said turn around, I didn't really check Garmin again until the 5k point. I just pushed myself a bit and figured I'd do whatever I could. Welllll, I looked at Garmin as I was getting close to that 5k part and I managed a 12:18 pace! Smokin' (for me anyway). I walked the rest of the time in to cool down and did my 45 minutes, met up with Kirby and DH, stretched and came home. Nice cup of hot tea and then the rest of the evening things before bed.

It was 62 when I came home. Temp had to drop more than 10 degrees from when I went out to when we hit the car at the end. It was crisp! I love this spring weather stuff. Sun was still shining and I done good.

Actually I do speak a TINY bit of military. My Dad spent 20 plus years in the Air National Guard, but of course we never moved.

(I am really good at summer camp stories however!:goodvibes )

And the hot news of the night....
