Wk of April 20 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Well, since we all know you can't sell anything for profit here I don't know why that's ever been brought up other than to bash me. My goal has never been to make a profit, I don't want to make a profit and I don't think I ever would make a profit at this.

If you are not making profits, where is the money going from the $2 each Lime Green Mickey heads you are trying to sell??

http://dirtybunny68.googlepages.com/lgmhpc

Just curious.

Just curious.

Considering I still have 60 of them sitting on the shelf next to me and I haven't sold one in almost a year..where do you want them to go? I was actually going to donate them to whoever was going to do the next big t-shirt order to give away with the shirts but I never got around to it. So if you want one just send me a self-addressed stamped envelope and I'll send you a couple...how does that sound...and anyone for anyone else the offers stands...just pm me and I'll send you the address.

and as for the $2...once you figure in production costs, the cost of custom ordering lime green sticker vinyl, envelopes, stamps and driving to the post office to drop things off (I live in a rural area) I made...lemme see...umm...nothing.

Whoa, I blinked and just WHAT HAPPENED TODAY?

I thought we were all runners/walkers with a Disney problem? :rotfl:
::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo pluto: pooh: :tinker: :simba: :ccat: :donald: :stitch: :dumbo: :sulley: :tigger: :figment: :eeyore: :goofy: :hmghost:

Let's all get back to training, resting, eating ice cream, and baking cookies.

"Can't we all just get along?" - Rodney King

Sounds good to me. (There is always the Ignore option)

I am Ceclia's REST plan LOL!

I really think my legs are just BEAT. Maybe the training plan doesn't work as well if you are 47 LOL! So while the plan called for a five mile and three mile run this week after my run Monday I went to plan B. No running/jogging until this weekend.

I am suppose to do 8 Sunday.....:scared1: I guess it will be good to see if I can do it before the Minnie. (of course if I can't this is not going to be fun!):rotfl:

Sorry I am behind. I was at Disney! I went to the rededication for AK's 10th Anniversary today. We got to hear a speech by Joe Rhode which was great and then I got to have him autograph two Larry Dotson AK prints! IT was a fun day. His speech reminded us that AK is what I like to call a "stop and smell the roses" park so I made a point to do that today. Did all the animal trails. Lots of fun!

Everyone have a good day!

GOOD EVENING TEAM!!

I am not even going to respond to the hatefulness but I would like to say THANK YOU WISH TEAM for all your support and encouragement in the last year. No one, not even DH (as much as he tries) understands what running means to me. It's about the accomplishments and hurdles I have overcome, it's about the fact that I was the "most non-athletic of all the kids" as my my dear dad likes to say, but I ran the MINNIE 15k at an 8:58 pace last year. That I have grown as a person because of it. I used to be such a quitter at everything in my life and now I am so NOT!!!! I have been the one to put in the miles and all the hard work but you guys are always there and this is the only place I can come that I can be absolutely certain that you guys will understand what I am going through good or bad.

Not only that you guys have been an encouragement in finishing school and my work issues. If anyone has come to this place and not felt welcome then that is definately their problem, because I used to be a very defensive, unapproachable person and I have felt overwhemlingy welcome here from day 1!! If you guys can make me feel welcome you can make anyone feel welcome.

I did want to say too:CECILIA Thank you for your post on rest, that was literally a god send for me. Every time I try to rest my back I feel like I am going to "undo" all the hard work I have done. After limping home Sunday and the pain yesterday, I promised my self I would take 3 days off from running no matter what. Just a little bit a go I found myself thinking "maybe after I lift a little tomorrow I will just do step - it's not running right?" DUH still hard on your body. I am and forever will be a cardio junkie, but I have a hard time putting myself in the "training" mindset and what all that encompases. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks again WISH team, can't wait to see you guys at MINNIE!!

. I was at Disney!

Carol, oooh I'm jealous you were at the park today.

You all are envious of where I live? Well I'd like to own property in Anaheim or Orlando so I could visit the parks any day of the year with the Queen and our Princesses.

I guess the only real thing we have in common with Florda, HURRICAINES.:scared1:

That is SO AWESOME!!! I saw Joe Rhode on those Expedition Everest specials, he's a cool acting dude...I'm only slightly jealous of you right now :rotfl:

Glad you had a great day today!

So if you generalize it's ok but when I do it I'm the ignorant one? Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black to me...

--DB
Huh? :confused3

No idea what you are talking about, but umm, ok. I thought I was being very civil in inviting you to join us at events & see what we really are all about.

Like Carol said awhile back, this really isn't a good way to go about getting people to buy products through you - by upsetting the majority of the group.

I am not going to feed into your negativity anymore. Apparently you thrive on it. I will leave it to the mods to deal with this situation.

Now can we please get back to what this thread is about? ;)

Carol -- Your day sounds heavenly! I am so glad you got to stop and smell the roses! :sunny: :goodvibes

Amy: For Pizza Personality Analysis: Spinach, feta, pine nuts. What do you think? Wow, what a strong, long day. Have I publicly thanked you for all the work you (and Lisa) are doing on the Core Accountability thread. We really need to get you branded, merchandised, distributed (whatever those things mean). I want you to know that I'm counting on my rest days paying off 1/2 as good as yours--and I'd be ecstatic with the results. P.S. I did feel special for my own post, too! :rotfl:

Scott: Oooooh, I hear many voices. My favorite one is the one that tells me to "Man up, Cowboy" every time I think about resting. (Replace Cowboy with a profane term, and that was this weekend's mantra.) I did so love the Pecan Praline, but have promised myself that sometime I'm going to try a weirdo flavor of ice cream. What's your recommendation? ;) :rotfl2:

And restathlon? Speaking of things that need to be branded!!! Admit it, you're just trying to make rest days appealing to those of us who are too stubborn (darest I say stupid?) to take them.

Craig: Speaking of reality check, your description of retirement plans was one for me! :scared1: Boston is so far out of my range of vision, you see, but I do see it in your future. Before you're in your 80s, too!

Aloha Jeff: THANK YOU so much for being a blood donor. I cannot do so because of my medical history, although I have volunteered at donor stations. Your generosity of time and, um, materials is much appreciated. And wow on the amount! I love your clinic notes--they're the same combination of interesting details, wry observations, and location notes that I've come to associate with your posts.

Terri: Now why did I think you were graduating? I think I've made this mistake before--maybe I'm just looking forward to your graduation for you? :confused3 Sorry about that, because I definitely want to get my stories straight to put names/handles with stories (and then faces). Maybe you just need to tell me something outrageous?

Bill: What's funnier, that you said that your weekend included smoking some pork or that this vegetarian didn't think to question it until I saw others' reactions? Billy, kindergarten. Already? (I must be channeling Lynnda. OH, and Happy Birthday, Lynnda!) As for the size of the single scoop, I have to say that I don't dictate it; that I MAY have chosen the local store that offers the biggest single size was completely a coincidence unrelated to my shoddy run. :rotfl: Now tell us, what did you get Lynnda for the big day?

Maura: Awww, you're too kind. I think of you all as very tolerate of my penchant for puns & other bad jokes. I've never tried the GF spa treatment, but everyone I've seen leaving the place looked blissful--a word I don't find a lot of reason to use except in such situations. I think you should try it and report back.

Cecilia: Speaking of smoking things (Bill!), I still think you're going to smoke the CMM. Good news about your DH's ITB. Is he a new runner? New distance? Coming back from an injury?

Carrie: Love the 10 minute rule! I can think of lots of things that could use that kind of test. I'm sorry to hear you ended up in pain, though. We both need rest--and ice cream. And it's amazing how much more attractive rest seems when it's paired with ice cream. Much better than Epsom Salts. Trust me.

And I totally want to jump on the Scott bandwagon & tell you how much I look forward to your posts. :goodvibes Sometimes for kicking me back into a proper posture, but most of the time because you make me laugh. (Not that the two are always separate.)

Stacie: I know I replied on another thread, but I'll reiterate that I think you should be proud of all you accomplished in your 7 miler milestone! P.S. I suspect there are many of us WISHers who are nutty ice-cream lovers! ;)

Morgan: So happy to hear you're enjoying your infatuation with your new shoes. I know the feeling! :cloud9:

Chris: :yay: You're doing a terrific job with the Buzzies, btw. Thanks for volunteering! Good luck on your upcoming Relay & Half marathon! I'll be those new shoes work for you.

Shan: I hope your doctor's appointment goes well, that the injury is minor, and what you need mostly is rest.

Leana: You do get spring in your neck of the woods, don't you? I'm glad to hear your chiro appointment was successful and that you're feeling better. And Good luck with your massage appointment and getting additional relief from your shin pain. P.S. Thanks for explaining about ART.

Frank: Happy Earth Day right back at you! :woohoo: Your Minnie/Mother's Day/Podcast cruise sounds like a great time. (And you and your brother are great sons, btw.) It sounds as if you have a full race season planned for this spring/summer. Wow!

TXAng: In my household, ice cream is always a go-to food for consolation. DOOD always has Ben & Jerry's in the freezer. (Now, I know you're thinking that I'm using DOOD to cloak my ice-cream tooth, but it's true. We also always dark chocolate in the house. And that's mine. Mine, mine, mine.) You're right, I should have gotten two scoops: one for reward, one for consolation. *Sigh* I guess I'll need to get more this weekend, huh?

:woohoo: for your W1D2 progress--that seems speedy to me, if I remember the early days of the program. And you've got your entourage with you. You go, girl! And not to tempt you into planning that DL trip, but think about how many WISHers you would meet. And DL is small, so it's a good size for a little touring with little ones. How's that for more justification?

Allie: :wave2: How's that Garmin treating you?

Lily: Hear, hear! (And if you're wondering about the background to that phrase, here's the wikipedia link. What did I ever do before that site?) I'm continually humbled by how welcoming everyone has been to me and others. I don't see that changing, either!

Cosi Bella: :welcome: Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials and for committing to running the half. Have you signed up already--if not, you may need to get a package because the half is sold out, I think. Regardless, what a great way to organize you wedding plans & get into shape. Now, may I suggest a themed wedding, say, involving track shoes for the bride & groom? :rotfl2:

Vic: I don't think I was invited to Bill's smoking pork soiree either. Do you think that I should be offended that he overlooked the vegetarian? :rotfl2:

Cecilia: Thank you for the rest primer/soap box. I think many of us know the value of rest days, at least intellectually. I, too, write rest on my greaseboard in big red letters. (I even believe in rest days, so I hope you didn't take my phrase "my body is weak" seriously. Then again, does anyone take anything I say seriously? :scared1:) But it's well worth the constant reminders, for me as well as for others, of the necessity of rest days. Exercise, like many things, can be addictive and it doesn't hurt to have the occasional intervention. At least not much.

Aloha Jeff: How about combining cookies & ice cream! Now THAT's an idea. Wait....hasn't that already been done? Darn it. Back to the drawing board. Maybe I could get you to serve me cookies & ice cream while I start training to rest? :rotfl2:

CarolA: I'm sure a few days of rest will do us BOTH good--and it's a good thing we're getting our online coaching from some of the best! :thumbsup2 I'm going to hold to what Amy said about coming back from her rest days & doing well--I think that will happen for you, too! Plus, you'll be at Disney...again. (And yes, I'm jealous, too.)

Angie: Thank you so much for sharing more of your story. I'm new enough that I'm still learning about everyone's backgrounds, so I appreciate your taking the time to tell it. (Cam, too!) I just have to say that you're not a quitter & that you're setting a good example for your kids!

As for me: Well, you know what I'm doing (see above). I credit Cecilia for getting me to say, I'm "doing" rest days instead of saying, I'm not running. Subtle but important difference.

So what am I doing to fill my (spare) time? Okay, you're not going to believe this, but I'm baking Nestle Toll House Cookies. Yep. You see, it's DOOD's birthday tomorrow (Shakespeare's birthday, too), and chocolate-chip cookies are his favorite. Now I'm sure they're not as good as Amy's, but if we don't tell DOOD he'll never know what he's missing.

My, oh my. What an eventful day of posts we have here today. I am overwhelmed at what I've been reading.

I'm overwhelmed by those who have shared their stories on what WISH means to them.

I'm overwhelmed by those who have shared their stories when other people, outside of the group, ask about our group--and join our group based on what they hear and see.

I'm overwhelmed by those sharing their stories of being approached at races by those who see our shirts.

You see, all of this has happened to me. I've met some of the most wonderful people in the world here on the WISH thread. In fact, I have developed lasting friendships with several people from these boards all of whose friendship I cherish more than anything outside of my family. I've had people ask me about our group just seeing us in a group having fun. I've had people come up to me after a race to tell me that they kept me and my shirt in their sights during the race as a way of pacing themselves. I've had a lot of people comment on our logo: DLF>DNF>DNS. It's all true.

What is our future? I don't know, but for now, I'm very happy with what I've gained from this group. Will it morph into something else? Who knows, but how can it get much better than this--friends encouraging friends and being there for each other. Why do we need to be more than that? Call me anti-visionary, but I'm quite content with who we are and what we do for each other.

Dirty Bunny--may you find what you are looking for. If it doesn't coincide with what WISH is, may you find peace with it.

To all WISH team members: I'll be there for you just as you are there for me.

Peace.

Motor mouth Dave has to get his 2 cents into todays discussion. Surprise right?

WISH is way more than a just a team, it's an ideal that you can stand up and say "YEAH" about. I can't speak for anyone else on the team, but I truely believe that what we stand for is badly needed today.

This is how I see WISH and what we stand for. Again this is just my personal opinion.

We stand for anyone with the courage to begin the journey to a healthier lifestyle.

We stand for the person who is carrying extra pounds on their body and a determination to become healthier.

We stand for the athletic person who everyone thinks is mentally challanged because he/she runs or walks or bikes or swims instead of watching TV like a normal person.

We stand for offering a helping hand to anyone who needs a lift.

We stand for discovering ourselves and what we are capable of.

We stand for having fun with others who believe as we do that fitness is not just for the gifted or the elite, because we are all elite for having the courage to start. (To Quote the Penguin)

Have I recieved way more from WISH than I have given, oh heck yes.:cloud9:

Thank you everyone.

Proud to wear the WISH Colors Panda:hippie:

What does WiSH stand for?

Seeing the girls at the turn-around by mile 20 with the ice and cloths and orange slices. How DID they get out there? And what would possess them to stand in the blistering heat? Team spirit :).

Seeing the group at the water stations....knowing they were setting up water cups and tables before even the marathoners were out on the course.

Seeing the group on Main Street during the Half...Cheering with their cowbells (WE NEED MORE COWBELL)...:sad1: Was so touching to me I actually teared up!!

Seeing the sea of Green Shirts before the start of both races...comforting :).

Seeing the sea of smiling and welcoming faces at the Pop Meet. Making new friends...finding old ones....hugs and support. Highlight = Cam! What a smile she had when I finally got to meet her. :grouphug:

Reading the comments by everyone day in and out "great job", "rest up", "take care of yourself", "hope your daughter is doing better", "can't wait to meet you", "thank you".....the weekly thread, the team threads....you name it. WiSH has been there for me and many others. Welcoming each new person with a shout out, a welcome and loads of advice and encouragement.

Seeing them there at the Beach Club for the final leg of the marathon. When you're holding back tears of joy and grimmaces of pain....when a smiling face, a bright green shirt and somebody, anybody caring that you are still out there battling through the race means more than anything.

That's what we stand for DB. I think Mel and others have great ideas for expanding and making things better than ever. But it's not about endorsements, profits, sales or even trying to be "recognized". We have great access to many people here on the Dis. Maybe someday it will expand. But it needs to be done carefully and thoughtfully, because we NEVER want to lose what makes Wish special. And that's the heart and soul of this group...the people who started it and the ones who stay :).

So...no negativity from me...but it was important for me to say exactly why I'm still here a few years later. I understand what you are trying to do and appreciate it. It's just the way it was presented that came across upsetting...because the green shirt is just a tiny part of who we are.

I know that I haven't posted in awhile, but I want ya'll to know how very much I appreciate you.

I am recovering slowly from surgery on my feet. I have been having a really hard time with not being able to do anything. I will be very happy when I can say I am in training again. I very much appreciate all the miles that have been donated for me in the team contest.

I have not forgotten nor will I forget the family that we as WISHer's are, and what we all stand for. Whether WISH grows or stays the same matters not to me, because what is important is the friendship and support that we give each other.

You guys are the best!!!

Erica:)

We are so passionate about our love of WISH Team and I think we should be proud of our willingness to gather around when we feel the need.

Please right now everyone breathe. We want to make all feel welcome here and the debate seems to be heading in a bad direction. Let us all try to remember what we like about WISH Team and take the debate out of our weekly thread for now. Posting often and getting to know each other and supporting one another is the foundation from which WISH Team grows. Let us all try to focus on this for now.

We may want to try to calmly discuss direction/options etc. on another thread. Please remember “calmly.”

I'm buying. Who wants one?

Wow this thread went a little crazy today!

I want to again thank everyone who is on the WISH Team or has been on the WISH Team. A couple of years ago I needed some help with keeping my goals of losing weight and getting healthier. The WISH Team members on the main WISH board helped me do this. I got tons of support and tips and tricks and no one ever asked me for a thing. I never bought a shirt, hat, bag, etc. Yet I still got their support. When I crossed over into the Competition side of things again I got plenty of advice and help on what to do without anyone asking for a thing.

I hope in turn I have helped and can help anyone out there with any questions they may have in losing weight or running.

Great work team! Carry on.....

That's carb loading, right??

Hook me up Vic!! :thumbsup2

Woohoo!!! :woohoo: Keg party at Vic's! :cool1: Hey, Vic, Does this mean we all get to see your tattoo in person? :faint:

So I am going to do a fly by post and just say that any new person reading this weeks thread is probely running for the hills with how this discussion is going down.

For my Wish story for me it has never been about starting something it has been my problem of following through. Even up until this past January I really had a hard time making a plan for exercising and finishing that plan. Hense the Half with zero training. With the team challenges and knowing that I was going to see Carrie, Scott, Marge and others at the Martian made me stick to it. I PR'd by 43 minutes just by having the encouragement that I find here. Now it looks like I am going to have a great race for Minnie as well. I finally have learned to put my money where my mouth is so to speak.

As for what Wish stands for it is different for everyone, but the big thing is support in all aspects of our endeavors. When I go to the gym or a local park I get people asking about what our team is. I answer that we are a online support community for people who want to stay healthy, period. There does not need to be any more like we are against childhood obesity or something because all those parents that we have here are being great role models for their children. We are great at what we are and I really see no reason to change that.

Where we could go in the future well my thoughts are if we do try to mentor and such we should ask the moderators of this forum if there is any way to create a central workout tracker for everyone. I really like that idea on another site that I am a part of. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com
If we could get group rates on the hotels and race entries that would be awesome but for me not a requirement. One thing I never want to change is how we support each other. The gear is great but I think friendships are much more important.

I really hope that I have not stepped on anybodies toes in this post but I really think it needed to be said.
Erin
