Wk of Apr 8--WISH Walking/Running Club

I have a brief moment between feedings and sleepings so I will try to post before being screamed at. :rolleyes1

Everyone is doing well and Timmy seems to be on a schedule right now. That is much better than Friday night where he kept us up most of the night. Needless to say, the Saturday run was canceled since I figured it wouldn't be good for me to fall asleep in the middle of it.

Yesterday I was able to get a run in and went 4.25 miles with a 10:10 pace. Apparently the break was worthwhile since the pace dropped a little. The only pain I felt was where Billy's head hit my leg earlier in the evening when were were roughhousing. So I guess I deserved that one.;)

It was raining during the run (started about a mile into it) and when I was close to the end I had a police officer take pity on me and ask if I needed a ride. I declined since I was fairly close to home by that point and it was starting to let up.

Kristi - We have a stick and love it. It gets used when our legs are starting to get sore.

Krista - Glad to hear you were pain free for a run. Hope that continues.

Welcome to the new members that I have seen.

Better go now and catch up on the next set of chores that I am getting behind on.

Bill

Okay, so which one of ya'll put a hex on my vacation weather????;) It rained all afternoon yesterday, and then pretty much after I finished my 3 miles this morning it started raining again--and it hasn't let up! I sure hope that when we head over to WDW tomorrow our weather is a little better. My IL's said that they've never had weather this bad on Spring Break--Lucky me!

Wow, you guys post alot. There's so much to catch on and this has been such a busy period for me, I can barely read all the posts much less reply to them. I am in total awe at how you always respond to everyone individually. I am rapidly approaching dementia and can barely remember what was posted 2 replies back!
Yesterday I received the WISH shirts that Cam was kind enough to lend to Nancy and me. Suddenly it's all starting to feel real. I'm getting scared but am also very excited. Our event is now less than 3 weeks away.
I'm looking ahead to the WDW event in January and starting to plan for it. Is there usually a WISH group get-together of some sort? If the Donald is on Saturday and the Mickey on Sunday, when and where is the gathering usually held? Do most people go to the after-party at Pleasure Island? After my daughter ran the full, she was too tired to even go back to the parks and just wanted to veg out. The PI event was the last place she wanted to be.

Jeanne--- I was beginning to worry that you had walked off and not to be heard from again. Don't leave me now.

Cam--- Thanks so much for lending us the shirts.

Laurie--- I never did get back to you what 1/2 I am doing on 4/29. Jeanneg and I are doing the Allentown, Pa 1/2. It will the first one for both of us.

After my great 14 mile LW on Sat, I could hardly do a 4 mile yesterday I struggled to get it done. I probably should have waited until today to start walking again, but have plans for tonight so forced myself to do it Monday. Hopefully Wed 4 miler will be better.

Now the ToT event has me interested. I am actually at WDW 10/17-10/26, but maybe I will just have to extend my trip or change things around. We are staying at OKW, has anyone tried to get any DVC for that weekend?

Time to head home.

Nancy

Nancy: I'm still here, but 3 of my 4 kids were home this weekend along, plus my sister was visiting since Wednesday. As a result, I trained very little last week....just XT and my sprint walks. Way too much going on around here right now. To top it all, I am hosting a dinner party for 12 tomorrow night and the house is a disaster! I hope I don't have to pull an all-nighter. Sometimes life is just insane.
I saw that you got up to 14 miles......CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! How long did it take? I'm keeping it at 12 miles until after the half. I always feel like I could go further if I had to, so I think I'll be OK. The shirts look great......since I will see you on Saturday, I'm just going to bring them with me. What are your October dates again? The Tower of Terror event sounds like fun....maybe we can swing a mini-vacation.

Christa--We needs pics of the new bike shorts!!!! Did you ground your daughters for saying the shorts make your butt look big? The next time they say that, just start singing "I like big butts and I cannot lie" while shaking your booty. :rotfl2:

That is what I did!:rotfl: They thought it was really funny.

About the stick...I have one and I LOVE it!

I am really crazy today so I will have to catch up later!

We are in a snow storm watch/warning for tonight. We are techincally in the watch, but on the edge of the warning area (KWIM?). So we are supposed to get snow, just don't know how much. THIS SUCKS! My race on Saturday will likely be snow or rain and in the 30's. As long as there is no wind, I think I might be able to do it. Can we get spring already??????????????????

Christa and Krista - I would totally sing the big butts song!!!!!!! As my DD6 would say "Shake your Booty!"

I just got back from my 3 miler that turned into a 2 miler. The cold air really gets to my lungs. I don't know if it's my asthma, or that I've been training indoors, or a combination of both. Either way, my lungs did not like my wogging today!

Chad has the cassette of "Baby Got Back" in his truck and plays it all the time! :rotfl:

Gotta run...we are off to Tae Kwon Do!

I got in a 3 miler today. Well, at least I think it was 3 miles. I usually plan out my route using the google pedometer (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/), but I couldn't remember which house--according to the satalite picture--I was supposed to turn around at. And now I can't remember which one I actually did turn around at LOL! It was close to 3 miles though. It's a good thing I turned around when I did, because it started pouring big drops as I was walking back to my car. It began hailing a couple minutes later! So I guess it was devine providence I turned when I did :)

I also had a few equipment malfunctions--trying to negotiate cold but sunny weather=too many clothes and no pockets. But it worked out.

I'm so excited because I wanted just to be around a 19 min/mile for the 3, and I was somewhere between 17:40 and 18:30, depending on exactly how far I went (I cannot wait for my Garmin to get here!). I'm pretty happy with that, because my legs are still tired from this weekend and I still did well. I don't see any problems of reaching my mini goal of a 16 min/mile for a 5K in June.

I love hearing about all of your workouts--so inspiring. I'm sorry I don't have time to thank everyone individually. But keep up the good work!

First, about me ('cause it's all about me right? :lmao: ). I did run 40:20 of speed work and I ran outside. I ran 2 min slow 2 min fast the last 20 sec was just to get back to the car before I stopped. My legs were a bit heavy from Sunday's effort which isn't unexpected.

Now to everyone else...

Kevin: I think I get in a bit of XT trying to get all the layers on when the weather is really cold! It does add about 10 min to the routine!! :rotfl:

Jackie: how is the PF rehab coming along? :wizard: that it heals quickly!!

jimmduck: :welcome:

Krista: woo-hoo on the run! Great that it was pain-free!!:thumbsup2

Vic: can't wait to see the buff bod!! ;)

Mike: :scared1: man your training schedule for the week makes my 8 miles on Sunday and today's speed work seem a bit paultry! I know--apples and oranges! Mucho :goodvibes for good runs this week!!

Andrew: here I was looking forward to the photos!!

Dave: glad to hear the booty is getting better!

Judy: kudos to you for sticking to it in snow and wind and rain (hmmm, sounds like a new motto: through rain, sleet, snow, hail, gloom of night...)

Bill: so happy to hear that things are normal in your house! Sorry the run was rainy but sounds like it was a good one!

Nancy: we'd LOVE to see you at ToT! Do it, do it, do it (repeat).

Jen: I'll keep my fingers crossed that your snow storm is either light or not at all.

Have a great evening everyone!!

Does anyone here own one of "the stick"s?
http://www.thestick.com/products/sticksbylength.cfm#Marathon_Stick
Chad has always wanted one and his birthday is coming up soon.
I thought there was one or two versions - they have all kinds!
There is one called "marathon" so I am thinking that is the one to get.
Any thoughts from my WISH experts?

I've got the short version. I bought it at the marathon expo one year and love it! My kids think it's fun to use it on me! Almost as good as a professional massage!

I have been in recovery mode since my 1/2 in Dallas on April 1st. Today was the first day my body basically said, "Was that it? Bring on more!" So I believe I am ready to reenter training mode. Too bad there aren't anymore long races near me until fall (Houston area). I suppose I can live with 5Ks and training runs until the fall, when I hope to start marathon training.

TXAng - Good job on the increased running intervals, before you know it you will be running even longer periods. What part of Texas are you in?

Kristi - Thanks for posting about the stick, I had been thinking about getting one. I am surprised I never thought of posting the question here myself.

Yeah this is me moseying in *innocient look*. I sometimes get a chance to just lurk for a week or two but I'm rather swamped. I just did the Crescent City Classic 10K in New Orleans. Freakin FREEZING! Okay 46 degrees with a steady NE 8 mph wind and 20 mph gusts. Yikes! And after the nice 85 degree marathon in January...something is messed up! Anywho, I finished in 55:55 a 9 min/mile pace which I am darned proud of thank you much! Much improved over last year's 1hr 17min

Question for those who ran/jogged/walked the Half and Full this year and actually took notes on course: What/When were the food stops on course? I think I remember a Clif Shots stop during the half and I know there was a oranges/bananas stop about halfway in the marathon, a Clif Shot stop somewhere in the middle of a highway, and the chocolate bars stop near mgm...so what were those mile markers and am I forgeting any? I did learn that I actually like the Apple Pie Clif Shots because the flavor works when they are hot. I'm planning on running my own little Goofy this summer around June 22/23, kicking off at 6 for the half and 4 for the full so I'm not in as much of the heat. Then I get to start training for the Baton Rouge Beach Marathon that's the first weekend in Dec (oh that just doesn't have the same ring as Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend *sigh*). I'm hoping to finish my half in under 2hrs this time and my full in under 5 hrs...we'll see.

And I'm back to needing Gatorade when I run and actually paying attention to hydrating since I'm running longer long runs and it's about to get hot. So I reread in MFM and saw (A) I should be hydrating during my shorter runs 8-12 oz per 15-20 min OOPS! I have rather been neglecting that--completely. (B) I should be hydrating the same amount during my LRs and HELLO that's a lot of fluids to carry though I think I will work my way up to that as it gets warmer. I ramble...sorry!

I'll try to keep up and actually post more oops! TTFN

Andrew – Good job getting that 3.5 miler in. It’s hard to do on a work night!

Dave – Glad to hear you’re feeling a little better.

Stephanie – Bummer about the lousy vacation weather.

Bekkiz – Great job getting those steps in! A 16:00 mile sounds totally doable by June.

Tiberius – I’m in the Austin area.

What is this stick that y’all are talking about? A massage tool? How does it work?

Rest day here today, so we went to Target and picked up a couple more shirts for running. And we got started on this thinking it would be a cheap hobby! :rotfl:

Good evening everyone!

3 miles on the TM this evening due to weather. 12:30 pace at a 2% incline.

Terri – I had a hard time keeping my balance. Must be too much girth. :rotfl:

TXAng – Those burpees were getting pretty sloppy towards the end.

Leana - Good job on the TM run.

Mike – If you don’t call us this week we’ll understand. :confused3 :)

Andrew – I’ll probably never make it to the race, but I can dream about it.

Dave – Great pace!

Judy – You go girl! :thumbsup2

Cam – Great job with the training!

Krista – It’s a great workout. Check this out Ross Training he’s published a workout manual called Never Gymless. It includes exercises with bands. May be something to check out. Check out the videos at the bottom of the page.

Cindy – Glad to hear you’re getting your training in.

Meghan – I understand about stock cars at Indy. The NASCAR purists would probably be saying the same thing if the IRL was racing at Daytona. I think it would be a great show. NASCAR is my first love, but I enjoy watching different types of racing. Cars, trucks, boats, airplanes, it doesn't matter to me.

Bill – Glad to hear the little one is settling in. Great job on the run.

Stephanie – Sorry to hear about the weather.

Bekkiz – Great job on the 3 miler!

Martha – I’m going to give Fabio a run for his money. HA!! :lmao:

Claire – great job on the 10K.

:)

Real quick. Has anyone been to Disney in September :confused3

We might be changing our annual week trip from July to mid September. Is that a good time to go

Thanks everyone!

5 days an counting until my first trip out of the country  :scared:

Krista - I missed your post last week. I had to run to see myself on the cd. That's so cool. Good thing I didn't blink and I had that nice, bright lime green shirt on ;) No autographs, please!:teeth:

Minnie - I love going in September. I'm going late Aug. this year, only because my school starts on Sept. 4th. It's still hot enough to enjoy the pools and water parks, but the crowds aren't as bad as summer.

Claire - I remember getting oranges along the road outside the Grand Floridian and bananas when leaving MK. I don't like the Cliff shots so I avoid them.

Judy - You've got a man who has got his priorities right - more Disney! :thumbsup2

Leana
- I'd definitely be up for a mini-WISH meet in SF in Oct. :)

Cam - How ya doing?

Terri

Hi Vic, Terri, Martha, Carrie, Scott, Mel, Krista, Judy, Charlie, Matt, Craig, Heather, Rhonda, Steve, Cam  , Colleen, Kevin, Bill, Nancy, Mike, et. al.

Great to catch up on everyone's post. I hope to have something to report this weekend. Right now I need some sleep. Too much studying is not good for ones soul.

:grouphug:

Howard

I'm looking ahead to the WDW event in January and starting to plan for it. Is there usually a WISH group get-together of some sort? If the Donald is on Saturday and the Mickey on Sunday, when and where is the gathering usually held? Do most people go to the after-party at Pleasure Island? After my daughter ran the full, she was too tired to even go back to the parks and just wanted to veg out. The PI event was the last place she wanted to be.

The WISH dinner has traditionally been on Fri. We usually get together around 4 or 4:30 so we can eat en masse without overtaxing one of the restaurants. POP food court worked out well last year. Rhonda coordinated an Illuminations dessert party last year on Sun night. And there's a post-race breakfast on Mon for medal photos. If anyone has ideas for 2008, we can start brainstorming anytime!

I did manage to run on the TM last night (sorry 'bout the wet weather, Stephanie :umbrella: ). Foot's getting better. A lot of LTO this week...I'm taking Kaley up to All Kids this afternoon for a followup CT on her renal cyst. Just making sure it's still behaving itself. And trying to get her into an out-of-county high school research program has been annoying :headache: . She's training for Minnie, but had some knee problems this weekend.

Minnie...we usually go Labor Day weekend. Sept is a bit steamier than July...and potential for hurricanes is much greater. We never used to worry about that, but after the last few years...

:wizard: and hello to everyone! Sorry to be so MIA these days :guilty:

Claire - GOod to see you! The map shows teh food stops at 9, 14, 16, 19.5, and 22.5. I *think* 14 was bananas and such adn 16 was cliff shots. Chocolate was 22.5 at Mgm. I don't remeber what the others were, though.

Howard - Get some rest! Hope to se you areound more soon, but I know you havea LOT of life going on!

Mel - Glad teh foot's getting better! Good luck with Kaley's appt! :wizard:

Terri - :wizard: Hope you start to see improvement soon!

tiberius! Woo hoo on the body wanting more!!! :cool1:

Well, I di my 60 minutes last night. Stoker would sum it up. As tough as I like to think I am, running through pain stinks. HOwever.....

I woke up pain free this morning!!! It's been over a week since I had no pain in my leg!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1:

I have PT again Thursday and will continue my extra stretches (they are definitely now permanantly in my regular stretches frm here out). I will still take it easy Thursday adn Saturday (hope my 10-miler doesn't put me over the edge, bu the PT said it was ok). I hope to be up to speed agian next week. Rigth now, it looks like Krista's going to leave me in her dust for CDC. I'd better get crackin' again.
