Wk of Apr 29--WISH Walking/Running Club

Stephanie - Cranky! I was just at Target a few days ago and didn't see any running skirts. I just ordered one off Lands End since I got an email for free shipping. How much was the one at Target? I think the Lands End was like $29 something. The XS for both regular and petite was on backorder. I had tried the small on at Sears in the regular length and it was a tad loose. I'm very short so I ordered the petite small. I hope it fits.

I must say when DH and I went to that trail the other day I was having major short issues. I thought I was gonna go insane trying to constantly pull them down. Is it just me? :confused3

Still in rest mode!! NO training since my half on sunday, don't plan on running until the weekend.

Lily-I hope you and your DH had an awesome anniversary!!

Mel-Good Luck at the Minnie this weekend! You are going to go great!!

Stephanie--Great workout!! You are so funny with how excited you are for Disney!! I would be the same way! Good Luck in the Minnie!

bekkiz--You are an athlete!! To be an athlete, you don't need to be able to run 8 min miles, you have to be out there exercising at your own pace! None of us here are in this to win these races, at least I don't think anyone is! We are here to stay healthy and enjoy the experience! So, don't ever think you aren't an athlete just because you go a little slower.

Bill--nice job on your run! I wouldn't mind moving my house down to WDW! IT would be a great place to live! :rotfl: Good Luck with the packing!!

Dave--Good Luck at the Flying Pig this weekend!!

Leana--You are probably at WDW at this point, but Good Luck on your races this weekend!!

Christa--another awesome run for you!! You are doing awesome!!

Judy--you crack me up with your posts sometimes!! :rotfl: You are going to do great this weekend at the Minnie!!

Carrie--sounds like you got some great info at your gait analysis. Hope the semi-custom orthotics work. Glad to hear one insert worked somewhat.

eeyore45--WTG for upping your mileage! You will be so ready in Jan. for the half!! Just take it day by day and you will be fine!!

Jeanne--It does feel good to have the race behind me...but I am really want to do another one really soon. I guess I am hooked!!

monte--Good to hear from you! 17 lbs is awesome! keep up the good work!

TXAng--glad to hear you were able to get a workout in despite your busy schedule.

Mike--funny story about the bird!

Kelley--Good luck to you and your DH this weekend!

I know I missed some people but gotta go do some errands!

GOOD LUCK!! to all those running the Minnie and Flying Pig this weekend!! I can't wait to read your race reports!!!

Safe travels to all those traveling to get to their races!!

Mike - Poor robin! And you even tried to help the poor guy, and he's still not smart enough to figure it out...

Kelley - We'll have to get our grumpy teenagers together at the half and let them sulk together about being awake too early!

To all who worked at BR in high school - I did too! DH is an area mgr for BR/Dunkin. DD works there now, and she has to work tonight for 31 cent scoop night. She is not nearly as excited about it as we are!

Question for all you medical/pharmacy folks: I've been offered a chance to participate in a study that is testing thalidomide for migraines. After reading the material, I'm very skeptical about doing it. Any opinions? I'm not concerned about effects on pregnancy, since we're through with that part of our lives, but the rest of it sounds pretty scary too!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL MINNIE AND FLYING PIG RACERS!!!

Jackie

Holy cats! No, no, no, a thousand times no! Good grief...I can't believe they're even testing it for migraine...the risk to benefit ratio must be absurd. Here's the FDA link that includes the safety info...if you're looking at a clinical trial, this was probably in the informed consent.

http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/infopage/thalidomide/default.htm

Even if the risk of birth defects is not an issue, there's the possibility of permanent nerve damage, blood clots (folks with migraine already have increased stroke risk), seizures, etc. Wow...who's bright idea was it to test thalidomide for migraine :sad2: They use it for leprosy and multiple myeloma, but unless this is severely, debilitating, cut off your head migraines that don't respond to anything other than decapitation, I can't imagine.

Whew...okay, now that I've had a moment to get over myself... ;)

I did my last 30 min run tonight. I really wanted to go outside and do a fast run, but didn't want to wait until it was cooler, so settled for the TM. Did 30 min at overall 12:41 pace. I've gotten all my running intervals up to 5mph or better...huge improvement for me over the last 2 1/2 years!

We're doing a little trash talkin' around the house this week. I think I can beat DD14 because she hasn't trained well...she doesn't think so. She only had me by 10 minutes last year...guess we'll see what happens on Sunday!

Jen...and anyone with PF...Runners World has a cool article on feet and exercises to do for PF.
I liked the P&P party...it's a lot like MNSSHP. They have a special parade and 'booty' stations where you go to collect beads and candy. Was not crowded when we went so lots more character interaction, but it may not be that way in August.

Dave...Pennywise is from my all-time favorite book! "We all float down here" I was always afraid of clowns and that book did NOT help!

Lily...happy belated anniversary!

bekkiz...definitely Esteban...reminds me of a muscle-bound pool boy or someone kinda like Ranger in the Stephanie Plum books. Donald reminds me of ...well...a bazillionaire with bad hair or a big white duck in a sailor suit.

Good luck to all you flying piggies! We have an interior design place downtown called Bacon and Wing that always makes me think of the Flying Pig racers! And good luck to everyone else racing this weekend!

I would volunteer to hold the bail money for the Minnie, but I'll have to go home Sunday night.

And I never worked at Baskin Robbins, but we do go out for frozen custard every Sat (Angie...love Sweet Berries!).

Too funny you mentioned these books - I am on book six right now & they are great!

I also concur - Esteban, while imagining Ranger! :rotfl:

My FIL's name is Donald. As much as I love him, the name is not so hot.

Dave: WOW I cannot believe I finally "met" someone who also worked at BR and remembers pistachio almond fudge!! I, too, took a cake decorating class and got to decorate cakes. I did enjoy it. Oh, we'll have to find a BR in Orlando and go there together!!!

Kristi: can I join you and Judy for a Long Island Ice Tea. ;)

Vic: good luck with the interviews!! I hope you find people who are exactly what you are looking for.

Nancy: get thee to a gym more often!!!

Disnutt: I remember people like you!!!

Shan: I hope they figure out the BP issue soon!!

eeyore45: hey, welcome to our very small group! Pralines and creme was always a favorite of many patrons. I still remember how big the scoops should be (2.5 ounces) and how to make a root beer float. And that whip cream cost extra. French vanilla and chocolate fudge also cost extra, 0.5 cents more a scoop.

Jackie: Aaaaaa!!! This is too incredible for words!!! I feel so good now about my high school stint at BR!!!

Mel: I WISH you could join us at Minnie this weekend! We'd love to see you there!!!

Finished the laundry and have everything laid out for the packing. Only thing to put in are the running shoes. Oooo, I cannot wait! Now, with so many of us having worked at BR, I'm kinda wanting to find one in FL!!!!

Have a great evening everyone!!!!!!!

Oh, I forgot to add this little memory. Our BR had us dress up for Christmas. Lucky me, I had to dress up as an elf. Unbeknownst to me, my sister snuck down to the store and took a picture of me through the window. She gave it to DH before we were married. I have no idea if he still has it. If so, oh lord help me, I cannot believe I'm saying this, I'll scan it in and post it. Oh lord, what have I said..........

Martha- There is not a trip to BR, the grocery or warehouse store on sample day that I don't experience pangs of guilt for my ice cream mooching ways! I can't believe we got away with it so many times. Only one old lady scooper ever caught on before we had our fill and call us on it. We actually bought cones from her!

Bill I'll be watching for the shirt notice. I really want one for the marathon.

Cam-If I don't end up running ToT in costume I may pm you about the kind offer to share!

Bekkiz I'd prefer to train w/ Esteban! Sounds like a hunk!

I just did 90 minutes of XT by pushing my lawn mower around the yard. We're trying to cut out about 1/4 acre of English Ivy the previous owners had growing around the house because they didn't like cutting grass. It did look quaint but the kids can't really play in it. My arms hurt!

Alright, Esteban it is! And then I can feel super good about myself that even little (or not so little as the case may be!) can out walk the strapping, muscle bound Esteban. I'll laugh at him after every workout :lmao:

Thanks for the encouragement!

oh jeanneg, he is on one of the those fancy Garmins. It's is pricey (although I got a great deal through Amazon), but to tell you the truth, I'm so happy to have it. It makes training, esp. in these early stages, so much easier. I can't always tell if I'm working hard enough, or sometimes even working too hard. Plus, it's nice to be able to download everything into my computer to keep track of distance and pace.

OK, so you didn't ask me, but I feel pretty strongly on this one too! My FIL was in a study for thalidimide. It stops the rapids growing cells. (My FIL has dormant myeloma, so they were hoping it would prevent him from having it become non-dormant). However, he got an infection. A very rare, but nasty one. While the thalidimide did not likely cause this, it kept his white blood cells from increasing while it was still in his system, as it attacks ALL fast growing cells. He's still with us, but it was quite a rough spring last year. It is a miracle that he is still with us. If it were cancer-related, I would still think about it. For anything non-life-threatening, though, PLEASE do not go there. :wizard: that you can find some relief.

Mel - You wouldn't turn around to bail us out????? :sad1:

Martha - We will see Mel, she's just got no play time for us. :sad1: I want pix!!!!

My leg has felt really good today! Keeping my fingers crossed!

shan--the running skirts were on a rack with some Champion swimwear. There were also some cute black and pink tanks that they had to go with the skirts. They were $19.99--I got a medium and it's a little big--but super cute!

And then listening to "These are the Days" by 10,000 Maniacs made me think of all my WISH buddies out there--whether running our first miles or a 10th marathon; each day we are out there doing something counts! :goodvibes Okay, enough sap from me!

Stephanie - I was sitting on my duff at the computer reading through the posts earlier and this one comment "each day we are out there doing something counts!" caught my eye and got me off my duff and out pounding the pavement!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1st time I've managed 3 miles in a long, long time. Most of it walking but I'll take it

Mel & Carrie - Thanks for the input. You pretty much confirmed what my gut was already telling me, but I wanted outside opinions. I knew DH would say "he** no" once he read the info, but he's paranoid about my donating blood! I was pretty sure my WISH buddies would be able to offer the rational side I needed! Although I have to admit, Mel, your response scared the pure **** out of me! The coordinator said they're having a hard time getting volunteers - gee, I wonder why?

Martha - I'd completely forgotten that french vanilla and chocolate fudge cost more! Does anyone remember mandarin chocolate sherbet? No one ever ordered it, and it looked like, well, I can't say that on these boards!

And BTW, for those of you who didn't make it to BR tonight for the 31 cent scoop, the ones here were slammed. I drove by to see DD, but after looking at the parking lot just kept on driving!

Minnie - Great job on your 3 miles. You never know what will get you up and going!

Mel - You had to mention Ranger, did you? Now I'm drooling on the keyboard!

Have a date with the TM in the AM, so I need to go to bed. Talked DH into picking DD up from work tonight, which is great since apparently they'll be there later than usual cleaning up. I played the "I'm supposed to run tomorrow morning but won't be able to since I'll be up so late tonight..." card, and since he's closing another store anyway...

Have I mentioned just how envious I am of everyone running the Minnie????

Jackie

Jackie - I WISH everyone could come with us!!!!! I was home fro Minnie last year. I really can sympathize. I heighly recommend leavign your dh alone wiht a bunch of female WISHers next year at marathon. Worked like a charm for me! ;) He didn't flinch when I drooled on the medal for 10 minutes at the expo, but Cam, Heather, Rhonda & Lily worked wonders!

Kristi: can I join you and Judy for a Long Island Ice Tea. ;)
You thought you could get out of joining us? :confused3 ;)
Of course you can!
Although I am not a big Long Island iced tea fan.
I am more of a sex on the beach fan - the :drinking1 kind!

Ok, it's 10pm.
I get up for work at 3am.
What am I doing here???? :surfweb:

Hello Folks,

Kelley - I too will be in Frederick on Sunday. Unfortunately, I will not be sporting my WISH shirt since the weather didn't allow a test LR. I'll also be there way too early so I can park at the stadium. Good luck to you and your DH.

Stephanie - Yes, this will be my first full marathon (and second race overall). My head has been swimming for the last couple of weeks trying to figure out what pace to shoot for. I really don't want to crash and burn down the stretch. We'll see.

Vic - Does your counterpart the Orange County Sheriff's Office have their own handcuffs? :rolleyes1
Jeeze Judy! First the EMT's, now the police? Poor Angie better make sure her DH isn't wearing his firefighter uniform!

Mike - That poor little bird!!
Dana - You're taking the wrong side here! I'm the one being wronged!

Mike - Poor robin! And you even tried to help the poor guy, and he's still not smart enough to figure it out...
Closer, but still too much sympathy for the bird!

I liked the P&P party...it's a lot like MNSSHP. They have a special parade and 'booty' stations
"Booty stations"... Is that where all the dads gather and shout "We want the redhead, we want the redhead!"? :lmao:

Well, I thought the few short runs in taper week were supposed to be confidence builders. WRONG!

Tuesday I struggled with a 3 miler in the heat of the afternoon. Add to my struggles that my Garmin lost 0.3 miles in the calculations. I about had a coronary when I looked down at my over inflated pace. :scared1:

Yesterday, I learned several lessons about what not to do before the race. Do not stay up 20+ hours before the race. Do not spend 2 hours mowing the grass before the race. Do not start the race at 1:00PM on a sunny, 80 plus degree day.

2 miles to run today. Once completed, I can proudly say that I did not skip even 1 run in the 18 week training period leading up to my race Sunday. Over 400 miles of running! Much thanks goes to DW Kathy (momoftwogirls) for allowing that to happen!! If I fall apart Sunday, blame Hal Hidgon!

Finally, for all you Minnie runners: If any of you happen to be in the Biergarten and get a liter of some fine, dark beer, think of me!

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

Wow, what a beautiful day yesterday here. I did a really slow easy 4.1 mile run at 11:45 mpm pace. I was planning on running around 10:00 mpm pace, and did that for the first mile. But then I bumped into the mother of one of DD9's princess: friends who was also running. Turns out she is doing the "Learn to Run" program with Fleet Feet that I did last year, and was doing run 3/walk 2 intervals. So I joined her for 2 miles and chatted about our girls. Last mile home was at 9:45 mpm pace - so I was feeling good.

I then ran another 1.21 miles with my princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, as part of their 5K training. They did great! 1.2 miles in 20:08 min/16:42 mpm. We always warm up with a brisk 5 min walk, and then we did run 2/walk 1 min intervals. They did great, and we all celebrated by getting BR 31 cent scoops afterwards.

I just checked the weather in Cincinnati this weekend. It looks like it's supposed to be nice for the Flying Pig. Looks like it will be in the 50's when we're running. So that should be great.

::MinnieMo Minnie Racers ::MinnieMo Have Fun! Travel Safely! And run like the wind. I can't wait to see pictures.

OK, I'm going to post another message to reply to everyone.
