Hey Amazon…(a delivery rant!)

I ordered a Christmas present from Amazon. Was supposed to be delivered today, but I just got a notice that it would be delayed until the 28th. I get that shipping issues occur and clearly that sucks, but when I checked the package originated 1 hour from my house and is currently sitting about 20 minutes from my house. I’m also getting 2 other packages from the same location delivered today, so it isn’t like they aren’t coming this way, and where I live Amazon offers paid 3 hour delivery windows.

I called customer service and at first he couldn’t understand why it was a big deal for the package to be delayed (it’s a Christmas present…Christmas is in 2 days…). Then he said that he would escalate it and my case would be "reviewed within 48 hours and would receive a status update by then." I pointed out that Christmas is in less than 48 hours and that there is no excuse when the fulfillment center is that close. He then changed his tune and said that “I’d probably get it tomorrow.” We’ll see.

Fortunately I have a good kid and he’ll understand if fulfillment messes up, but there should really be no excuses. 😡

I also just checked and if I re-order the item it will be delivered tomorrow, yet somehow the already packaged and awaiting delivery box needs 5 days?!?

been there-done that with a bday gift last month for dh. re-ordered it and got it right away and for whatever reason the original never showed (got a refund). I also have a fullfillment center near my home

Amazon tells you to wait 48 hours after your intended delivery date if they haven't made any updates to you, they did make an update to you with the new anticipated delivery date.

What does your tracking show? Is it going through USPS, UPS, FedEx or strictly Amazon Delivery Services or Amazon Flex (TBA is the beginning of the tracking for Amazon delivered items)? Is it sold and shipped by Amazon?

In my area there is a lot of issues that are going on that aren't related to the merchant, they are related to processing centers for the most part and no one knows why it's bouncing around while largely a USPS thing people have a lot of issues lately with UPS and FedEx on processing centers, it'll make it to our area only to suddenly be rerouted away.

For us we have now had two FedEx packages arrive early but one earlier this month was late (there was winter weather the day before the original delivery date though).

My husband ordered a gift for my sister-in-law's husband, that was from Amazon third party seller and shipper. They just started the mailing process and he ordered it early last week, it was set to be delivered after Christmas quickly after ordering it. He did see he could order it from Amazon as a Prime delivery but a lot more expensive. We'll just wait.

All 3 packages (2 delivered plus one missing) were TBA through the same facility so completely under Amazon’s control, and no weather issues here. And of course no change in status in my Amazon account to reflect tonight’s call. I’m going to see what happens overnight. I don’t really want to place a second order.

We've had Amazon Prime, since the year it was introduced & loved it until the last couple years. Their shipping has become so unpredictable that we're considering canceling our membership. The only reason I hesitate is my sisters are grandfathered into our plan from the days when they allowed multiple households on one account. We're about to the point where we're going to cancel anyway.

Posting again to say we just had the same thing happen. I had an Amazon package scheduled to arrive today. After it didn't arrive, I checked the shipping info on Amazon. It hasn't even shipped. Monday is the new delivery date. >:(
