Wk of Apr 1--WISH Walking/Running Club

Christa

And Martha failed to mention the French White Burgandy we enjoyed over dinner. Citrus-y and Mineral-y, perfect with the shellfish!

Good food and low-fat to boot. What could be better than that?

Craig

Hey everyone,

Sounds like everyone's been getting some good training in...wish I could say the same for myself. After several weeks of sticking exactly to my training plan, I've had my first frustrating couple of days. I was doing so well with my training plan but caught a bug and have been sick for the last 2 days. I missed 2 training runs and it stinks. I want to go out and run so badly but I know if I do I'll probably just prolong the illness. My plan is to just take it easy and hopefully get better for my Sun LR. What do you all do when you're sick? Do you run through it or rest and then just continue on with the plan wherever you pickup? It's been beautiful running weather too which is even more torture. Hopefully this will all pass in the next day or so and I can get back on track.

Kristin

Christa - I'll tell you what made me want to do that.... Outdoor gear including bikes AT COST!!! or less. and i get paid to go somewhere I love. I'm doing an orienteering meet as a part of their outdoor festival at the end of this month. The meets we have been putting on have been costing me, but now, I'm getting paid to do it!! How cool is that? I may also get to lead women's group mt. and road bike rides! I didn't sell any bikes on my first day though!! What a bummer

Hey everyone - got my 3 miler in tonight. It was cold and snowing a bit so I my body was reluctant to head out the door, but my brain pushed through. I ran it in 33:47 for an 11:16 min/mi pace, pretty darn close to what I ran on Tuesday. I felt as though this was a slightly more consistent run and pace though, and I really powered up the hill in mile 2.

I took a rest day yesterday, so tomorrow I'll be doing some aerobics and weights. Thank goodness I have the day off tomorrow cuz my behind is dragging....too many late nights in a row.

Well, I'm pretty sure my mom is sold on the ToT run. Think my dad is starting to think I'm a bit loony though! :crazy2: My cousin is interested in the run too, so she may be joining as well.

Hang in there Dave, Jen, Andrew, and anyone else in a work funk! It'll get better.

Melissa, glad to see you're hard earned college tuition is being put to good use ;) . Great bennies! I've always wanted a job at Dairy Queen for the employee discount.

Laurie - Great run outside. How'd the hockey game go? Every time you talk about hockey I always think of an interview I saw with a girl that I seem to think was the first pro (minor league) female goalie 15-20 years ago. Manon somebody or other... They asked her how she became a goalie. In her thickest French Canadian accent "My brodders poot me in ze goal and shoots ze puck at me. I eeder stop ze puck or get hit." Pretty simple when you think of it that way.

Kristin - Listen to your body. Take it easy if that is what feels right. You can't make up the lost days. Just move on and don't sweat it.

Christa - Left/Right: I was going to suggest that little trick where you hold your hands out in front of you and stick out your thumbs. The one that makes the L is your left hand... Maybe not a good idea on the bike. Or maybe act like you're saying The Pledge of Allegiance. Your right hand is on your heart... Again, probably no good at speed. We'll have to work on that.

Hey maybe Melissa can get you a deal on some biking shorts!! Do I see a WISH team discount code in our future?

Judy - I've got a new song for your iPod. My DD10 has a CD by Trout Fishing In America with the song "My Hair Had a Party Last Night".

My hair had a party last night,
It musta got into a terrible fight,
Cause when my head hit the pillow it was lookin' all right,
My hair had a party last night.

On the training front: I had a good LR yesterday. 14 miles at an average 8:24 mpm. I'm not coordinated enough to drink on the run so I simulated walking through water stops every 2 miles. I was afraid I'd be like an old lawn mower I use to have. It ran fine once it was going but if it stopped once it was heated up, forget getting it going again. But everything worked out fine and I was able to keep a surprising consistent pace throughout.

Happy Friday to everyone!

Hellooooooo, WISH team mates!!!

I have only read the previous page, please be patient with me; I already can see there is MUCH to catch up on (three weeks worth!!). I HAVE SOOOOO MISSED YOU GUYS/GALS!!!::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Did some TM work here and there, walked (but not at my race pace) 3 miles once, 6 miles+ another...siiiggghhh. Minnie is in 4 weeks :scared1: ! Off to do seven miles in the morning..at race pace..hopefully.;) Please know that I WILL go back and catch up with everyone and meet the new folks..but we ARE a chatty group! It may take me 3 weeks just to catch up! :surfweb: I do look forward to it! :surfweb: :goodvibes Anne

CONGRATULATIONS, BILL AND LYNNDA AND BILLY!!!

:welcome:Timothy David!:welcome:

Christa -Hopefully the dog walker cleans up after them. We have people walk their dogs on the bike path (no biggie, its there for everyone), but some let the poop lay where it landed. I guess my jumping over, around, or past them could be considered pylometrics and will help me be a better runner.
Melissa - I hope you have fun with your new job!
Craig & Martha - You should have a Healthy Gourmet thread! Shrimp, broiled with couscous served with a French White Burgandy!
Carrie - You just experienced "Hurry up and wait" Woo Hoo congratulations.
Tiger Lily - I can relate. Hopefully your LTO will ease up soon.

Training Note:
Did 30 min (not 30 miles) on my stationary cycle and 2 sets of a light dumbell routine. When I start working out more with the weights, I'll pick it up, but for now, taking it easy...don't want to have to enlist my DW (lurker that she is) to help brush my teeth the next morning.
Bye all....Happy Training!

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I got my SWOG in yesterday, 30 min in the deep end of the pool. I can still feel a little soreness in my booty, but it's getting better. I'm so looking forward to the Flying Pig 1/2M in May. I need to plan something after that to keep me going. All this talk of MCM and ToT 13K makes me think I really need to plan something. The MCM is appealing to me, but if I do that, then I definitely won't be able to run Disney. However, I may not be able to run Disney anyhow, and then I may get shut out of MCM. Aaaargh, WISH I could do everything.

Kristi- That is so cool about going to NYC to watch your niece on TV. I remember watching that show a while ago. I can't wait to look for it. Definitely give us all the details.

Carrie- thanks for the well wishes. My running and this group really cheer me up. Wouldn't make it through the week without them. Hope your leg ailments heal up soon.

Hi Melissa :hippie: Congrats on the new job! That's great. You crack me up about how it makes good use of your master's degree. Oh well, it will give you some extra money to go to races, right? The job sounds really cool. Gear at cost, getting paid to put on meets. How cool. Maybe you can make your Mean Girls Tri an official race.

Jen- Wierd, that you work with your hubby too. More coincidences. Hope you're doing well. Booooo snow.

Hi Lily- Good to hear form you. Hope you're doing well out there in Cleveland. Glad to know your on pace in your Minnie training.

Christa- Maybe Melissa can get you a deal on some new bike shorts.

Stephanie- Wow, great job on your 8 miles at 8:33 pace. That's awesome! Your pace is great.

Kristin- Sorry you've come down with a bug . Hope you're feeling better soon.

Leana- Nice job on the 3 miler.

Mike/Optimator- Great post. You crack me up too. Wow, that's a smokin' 14 mile LR. That is fantastic.

Anne- Great to hear from you again. Good luck on keeping up with the Minnie training.

Andrew- Awesome job on the x-training. WTG!

Happy Friday everyone. No school today, DW doesn't work on Friday's so it doesn't change our schedule at all. We have some family coming in for Easter, but no big plans for this weekend.

Good morning everyone!

No run yesterday, but I did do 8 3-minute rounds on the heavy bag. Not a bad workout, and it enables me to work off a week's worth of stress. :)

Angie said:
Vic - Good run and we are all over that Tower of Terror race - we run way better at night anyway. Is it bad that we are doing RFTT 3 weeks before that ?? (WE LOVE DISNEY)
I wish we could swing both races in October, but I don't think the bank account could survive the hit. No, it's not bad to run the RFTT 3 weeks prior to the TOT. :)

Andrew – Great job with the training. I hate it when I can't raise my arms after weight training. :rotfl:

Krista – Hey!

Judy – Glad to hear the knee is ok and great job on the run.

Sunny – W’supp?

Laurie – Great job on the 5 miles.

Carrie – Get better!

Bill – Glad to hear everyone is doing well.

Christy – Just remember, snakes need love too. ;)

MelR – Congrats on the job.

Lily – Hey!

Anne – Hey!

Martha – Don't let that trainer be too rough on you. ;)

Christa – Great training report. Do you need new bike shorts? :lmao:

Stephanie – Great job on the 8 miler!

Leana – Great job on the run.

Mike(optimator) – Great job on the 14 miler!

Dave and Jen – Hope things start looking up soon.

Good luck Molly!!

:)

Good morning TEAM! Happy Good Friday! Am I the only one at work today? :confused3 So here's my training report for last night: I'm throwing my inserts away.   I gave them 2 weeks and my lower legs/shin/calf area is STILL throbbing every time I run. To me it's not worth it to run with tears in your eyes because you have pains shooting up your legs. I have a 10 miler tomorrow, I'm going to try it without my inserts and see what happens.

Carrie--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: I hope you figure out everything with your leg.

Dave--Do you have your wings and pig nose ready?! T-Minus 4 weeks, 2 days, and counting!!!!

Melissa--Your new job sounds awesome!! I always say I'm going to "retire" and work at an animal shelter, but I honestly don't know if I could handle that.

Christa--On your left!!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: When's your birthday? Maybe you'll get new bike shorts. Or maybe the Easter Bunny will put them in your basket. :)

Martha and Craig--YUM!! I don't like seafood, but I LOVE couscous!!!

Kristin--I've always heard that the rule of thumb is if the sickness is above your neck then you are okay to run, but if it's below your neck to skip the run. Personally, if I don't feel good, I don't run.

I hope everyone has a very happy and blessed Easter. My entire family (parents, sisters, nieces and nephews) will be together for the first time since Christmas. I am excited!! :woohoo:

Morning team! Rest day here for me, but wanted to pop in here and wish everyone a Happy Easter! I'll be on vacation for hte next 10 days, so we'll see what training I keep up with. I hope everyone's training continues to go well while I'm gone! I'm going to try to check in while on vacation; DH is bringing the laptop along.

Hey all... I did manage to get in 40 minutes on the indoor track... around in circles and circles and circles... But at least I got my steps in.

Dave - Oh yes, DH is in the office next door to me. We do different things, but occasionally have to "work" together. He is a computer programmer, I am in sales and customer training.

Krista - I am at work today also, but only until noon. Oh and we have our annual office brunch too, so that will blow time away. We are a very small office.

ANNE - You're back. Oh yah, we missed you. Oh, I wanted to tell you that DD is doing FABULOUS with her phonics. I thought you would want an update. She has done a 360 turn around.

Congrats to everyone who got in their run... and GOOD LUCK to everyone running races this weekend!

Krista--- You are not the only one at work today. The hospital never closes. Our hospital doesn't recognize Good Friday as a holiday so everything is business as usual.

Kristin-- When I don't feel good, I don't force myself to train. I just find that he takes me longer to recover. However, I am an old lady so just about anything I do takes me a long time to recover. Hope you are feeling better.

Martha--- I am so with you that I want spring now. We only had flurries, but the wind chill is in the teens. I had my sprint training just getting from the car into the building because I refused to wear a winter coat after I put them away, but the light spring jacket just wasn't doing its job in keeping out the cold.

Did 6 miles on the TM at the gym yesterday. If I had gotten there earlier, I think I could have done my LW as it felt good. But didn't want to still be at the gym after 8pm as I still needed to eat dinner. So either Sat or Sun need to get in my LW. More than likely it will have to be on the TM, unless the wind stops.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Good luck to all those racing this weekend.

Nancy

Stephanie - Have a grat trip!

Anne - Welcome Back!!! We've missed you!!!! :grouphug:

Dave - ISn't it amazing what our suppoert groups do for us?

OptiMike - Love the song!

Kristin - I am a whimp. If it's just a cold adn I don't feel totally drained, I will try to run. I'll take it very easy, though. If my body feels liek it could sleep fro 10 years, I let it. No need making things worse. If there are fever or stomach issues, no way. lIke I said, I'm a whimp. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Krista - I am so sorry that those inserts have caused you such much pain!!!! Hope Saturday goes well for you!!!

Christa - lol. Sorry that your ride was less than stellar. Got your new biking pants yet? ;)

Melissa - That sounds awesome!!! Even if you never sold a bike, you will be an aweseome resource for the shop. Knowing you, though, those sales will come rolling in. Such a great fit for you and pays you to do what you love. :cool1:

ANdrew - lol. Sounds like you're on a good plan. Over exerting to the point wher you can't brush your own teeth could increase your chance of injury just a smackerel too! ;)

Have a wonderful Easter everyone! My parents arrive hom today and we will aee them tomorrow knight after a visit to the ILs. It will be the first time I've seen my family (including my adorable niece and nephews) since the end of January. It will be a lot of fun, once my mom gets over the shock of the cold. :p Did I mentionwe're supposed to get 7 inches in teh next 24 hours? SHould not be as bad where the relatives live, though.

Christa

Good morning TEAM! Happy Good Friday! Am I the only one at work today? :confused3 So here's my training report for last night: I'm throwing my inserts away.   I gave them 2 weeks and my lower legs/shin/calf area is STILL throbbing every time I run. Dave--Do you have your wings and pig nose ready?! T-Minus 4 weeks, 2 days, and counting!!!!
Hi Krista, I'm at work today too. I think it sounds like a good idea to try running without your inserts. Sounds like they are giving you so much trouble. Sorry, you are in so much pain. That just stinks. Hmmmm, running with a pig nose? I don't know if I can constrict my breathing at all if I want to keep up with your hubby.

Today is a rest day for me before my 8 mile LR tomorrow. I am actually really looking forward to my LR this weekend, I never ever thought I would be saying that!!!

Martha--That is so awesome that your trainer is going to come to the ToT race in the fall!

Carrie--Glad to hear that you are getting things checked out at a sports med clinic. Hope all goes well. :wizard: And WTG for keeping such a positive attitude about it. Not sure I could do that!

Bill--My hockey team won last night 3-2..it was an awesome game!! Hope that Lynnda and the baby come home today, it will probably be such a great feeling for you the two of you and your kids to be in your own home!

Jen--Hang in there! Hopefully things slow down for you really soon, and you get back on track with your workouts. Remember we all have times here and there when we feel like we have no time to workout and things always slow down and we get back on track. Hang in there!

Christy--YIKES!! :scared1: I am not a big fan of snakes, even if they are small like that....I probably would be sprinting to and from my car if that was on my front walk also!!!!

Dave---Hang in there! Glad your SWOG went well yesterday!

Melissa--Congrats on the new job! Sounds like a fun job! And you will be doing something that you really enjoy! Good luck with the new job.

Lily--Glad to hear all is well with you and your training is going well!

Christa--Sounds like a great bike ride...and I love your list of things that your learned on your ride today!!

Stephanie--WOW girl...you are fast!!! Have an awesome time on your trip!!

Kristin--Hang in there, first take care of yourself and get better! If you miss a few days of training you will be fine. Take a few days rest until you feel better and then just pick up your training plan when you are better.

Leana--WTG for getting your run despite the weather!! That is awesome, and you had a great pace too!

Mike--HAHA!! That quote had me hysterical!! :rotfl: I remember that lady, and I can just picture her saying that in my head. I am the goalie on my team, so I can relate to her!! :rotfl2: We did win our game last night, it was a great game! And great job on your LR, awesome pace!!

Anne--Welcome back! Gald to hear all is well with you! Good luck with your LR.

Vic--nice workout!

Krista--sorry to hear the inserts don't work and you are still in pain. I hope your 10 miler goes well. Enjoy the time with your family!

Nancy--WTG for getting in your 6 miles on the TM!

I hope everyone has an awesome weekend!! Good luck to all those getting in training and LRs!

Sunny – Take care of those toes!!

Laurie – WTG on that awesome pace!

Carrie – Goodness, you’re much more patient than I am! Hope you get some good news on Monday. Get better soon! :wizard:

Jen – That’s rough. How long will it take for you to find a new assistant?

Christy – EEEWWW! I hate snakes!

Mel – Congrats on the new job!! That sounds great!

Christa – Great job on the 30 miler. Your list cracked me up!

Stephanie – Great run! Have fun on vacation!

Kristin – Hope you’re feeling better soon! :wizard:

Mike/Optimator – Awesome 14 miler!

Krista – Nope, you’re not the only one working today! Though our office works longer days M-Th, so we get off at noon on Fridays. I’m sorry those inserts have been such a pain (literally!).

Well, we were supposed to get out and run last night, but when we got home, both DH and I decided it was a far better plan to just crash straight into bed. So that's what we did. Is it a bad thing that I slept for nearly 12 hours without waking up even once? :confused3 Maybe the work stress has gotten a little out of control.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!

Laurie--- Everytime you post about your hockey games, I have to think of my sons. Hockey was such a big part of our lives for years. In fact the past year is the first time we haven't been involved in hockey. DS#2 is also a goalie and played up into his senior year of college. He as fortunate that he was able to play hockey national championships tournaments twice. Once in the USA hockey U-18 age group when he was a junior in high school and in his Junior Year of College for Division III Club Hockey. DS#1 hasn't played since he graduated from HS. However, all that equipment is still out my house and no one wants me to throw anything away.

What rink do you play out of? I think I know most of the rinks in NJ, PA, MD and DE.

Nancy

Since I was sitting at home, drinking coffee, pretty much unmotivated, I decided to create a clippie for the TOT race. A graphics artist I''m not.

If you care to use it, right click on the image and past the link in your signature.

Anne, you're back! We have missed you girl! Good luck with your training.
