Wishes FP complaint

I think the area is great. I don't care for the light poles but I won't start on that. I just wish they would issue less FPs and allow people to sit. If everyone is sitting there, it won't be a stampede. It's not like anyone is getting out of there that quickly anyway if something did happen.

The view is a good one though. Cut down on the number of available FPs and it will be much better.

Below is a "work-in-progress" of my overview of the new Hub. Some of the "outer" sidewalks shown have not been built yet. Some of the unfinished areas have since been finished. The original photo is by Scott Keating, posted on WDWMagic.

You can add the walkway just in front (toward the Castle) of the East & West purple areas to the FP area. These 2 walkways are roped off at either end for additional FP viewing areas.

Maybe they make everyone stand because it would be impossible for some to sit on the ground. What would they handle it if they had adults who couldn't make it down to sit on the ground?

Maybe they could just let people choose. They seem to be taking away one choice after another from their guests these days. People are happiest when they can exercise some decision making of their own in the parks. At least I am.

Unfortunately when given choices, some always seem to exercise bad judgment, forcing choices to be made for everyone. Sort of like the one naughty child who gets the whole class in trouble.

But the cows at the packing plant also don't have the choice to go to the plant or not. No one tells them they can stay home or go visit another plant if they so choose to.

It's different because nobody walks the parade route and tells people they have to stand (although I have seen them walk the route at DL and tell people on the curb they have to sit).

I imagine they are doing it (although I wish they wouldn't) because they issue too many FPs for that area and they don't want to be sued when someone gets run over in the dark with an ECV.

I think Disney only cares about the naughty children when it benefits them. Otherwise they would care more about line cutters and people taking flash photos on rides.

My point is that in order to cover their own behinds in terms of liability and safety regulations, they need to regulate guest behavior to some degree to protect themselves from being sued. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't. Either they are perceived as taking away guest choice, or they are lax and some @$$hat runs amok, someone gets hurt, and then Disney's on the hook for it.

They wouldn't have a safety issue if they weren't trying to squeeze too many people in that area. It wasn't an issue when they did it in the rose garden and issued fewer passes.

I'm only commenting on the present-day reality of things. They need to ensure safety in the situation as it is right now. That's my only point.

But the present day reality is whatever Disney makes it. It's not just presented to them as a fait accompli. They can control how they handle it, but they can also control what that reality is in the first place (as in issuing fewer FPs).

We just returned last night from Disney and we watched Wishes from the East side on a Tuesday night. The area was just packed. Really, it was standing room only to watch the MSEP and people just kept coming and coming. By the time they started Celebrate the Magic people were crushed up against each other. Also, people were lining up to enter at 8:00 which really defeats the purpose of a fp but after seeing the line we entered early and just hung around but the mentality was the same as always i.e. people claiming the best spots up front 2 hours ahead of time and many kids on shoulders which blocked the view of people behind. The show and fireworks were beautiful and the parade can be easily seen if standing towards the front near main street.

I will not sit on the grass at Disney because of fire ants. Nope. Not happening even if I could get down that low and back up easily which I can't.

When I used the FP+ for Wishes in April 2015 it was the same way - you could sit until the fireworks started if you wanted and then just before they started the CM's went through asking everyone to stand up.
It was crowded but I really liked having the space where I didn't feel like I was going to be run over after the fireworks ended.
