WISH Away the Pounds June Challenge -- Starting a Successful Summer!

QOTD for Saturday, 6/7/14 and Sunday, 6/8/14: What small changes have you made that have added up to big results for you?

One small change would be drinking water, water, water. Flushing toxins, staying hydrated, keeping your body from confusing thirst and hunger and so much more.

The rule of thumb these days is to take your body weight in pounds, divide that number by two and drink that many ounces every day. I have been hitting this goal for a few weeks now. Anyone else?

Fly-by posting just to say hello and let you all know I am alive! Robotics team yard sale was today and I am wiped out!! I've been up and moving non-stop since 4:30 am. I am tired, wind-whipped, sunburned, hungry, and dehydrated, but it was a BEAUTIFUL day, absolutely PERFECT weather, and we made some money for the team (not as much as I had hoped, but some) and I am done/cleaned up/car unloaded, etc for the day!! I am enjoying a cold adult beverage and putting my feet up for a little while!!

BBL tonight or in the morning to catch up and chat....................P

Which leads me to the QOTD for Saturday, 6/7/14 and Sunday, 6/8/14: What small changes have you made that have added up to big results for you? BBL with replies and my own answer.

I drink a lot more water and park far away from any store I go to to get extra walking. This hasn't really resulted in BIG results, but I am trying to just be more active and healthy in general.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Omgsh I have been MIA :)
It was a crazy last week of school & unfortunately my own children still have a couple days this coming week. I realized June is super busy with appointments. And, DS11 goes to a day camp for 2 weeks. Good think I bought a big calendar to write everything on!
It was an absolutely beautiful day today in PA. My sister & I walked 8 miles this morning. DS11 has been having some pain in his foot/heel so I took him to a doctor today. She sent him for X-rays but thinks it's his Achilles' tendon (too tight). She showed him exercises to stretch it & told him to take it easy this week. Oh, ok lol. He has to play in his soccer game tomorrow, then I told him he can take it easy & see if it still bothers him by the end of the week. He has a soccer camp Wednesday, so I told him he can go, but sit out & just watch. He wants to run cross country this fall so I want to make sure it doesn't get worse! Now I'm laying on my love seat (or love couch as DS8 calls it) on the front porch enjoying all the birds singing. I think I may even do some reading, which I don't have much time to do during the school year.
Enjoy your weekend & I'll try to check back in tomorrow.
Jill
Oh, and, I'm down TWO POUNDS this week and I am feeling pretty darn fantastic about that! :yay::yay::yay:
That is a big :woohoo: Connie! Your hard work is paying off! :cool2:
Congrats on such a big SWOOSSH! I love to see the scale do that, especially when it seems to be "stuck" for a bit. What a great start to the weekend!:cheer2:
:woohoo: for a big whoosh! :cool2:
Good point, Connie! ::yes:: My water consumption is good and even more so now that I am here in the desert. :sunny: It is a hot thirsty place and even had to chase a snake out of the garage. :faint:
Sounds like a successful sale, Pamela. Glad to hear that you could put your feet up and relax after your hard work! :cool2:
Wow sounds like summer is even busier than the school year, Jill. :rotfl: I hope your DS is feeling better very soon. :flower3:
Here is my PSA for today: take a good look at all the stuff that you have and ask yourself if you really need it all. :hippie: I am moving my mom's house and it is a big job for one person dealing with 50 years worth of stuff. :sad2:
Happy Sunday and I will be back tomorrow with the QOTD! :goodvibes
Ahh I have been so busy for the last few days I have had no time to log on!!
Last week I was down 3.6lbs but I have missed a few days on my ab challange and now I don't know what to do. Do I pick up where I left off or do I just start where I am supposed to be now? We are moving buildings at work and I feel like I have been working out hardcore everday and I just want to sleep when I get home! It is a good and bad thing, I feel great my muscles are sore so clearly I have been working them but I really, really like the ab challange... Please help! :confused3
Over all though I think I am doing really well. It has been a little over a week with no soda :banana: and I have just been working on making better choices. More veggies, lots of water etc...
Only a few more months until Disney and I am feeling the pressure. I don't just want to look better, but I want to be able to make it through the parks without passing out. The other girls I am going with are in way better shape...:worried:
Good morning all! :goodvibes
I'm sorry my travels kept me off the computer the rest of yesterday. It should be better the rest of the time I am coaching -- even though it is totally crazy and hot here in AZ. :rotfl:
That's okay, we understand!! Keep COOL!!
Please be sure to report your weigh in results if you haven't already!
Yesterday we talked about villains, continuing in that theme, let's talk about stealth . . . stealth health! With a little help from our friends at sparkpeople.com, of course, and this lovely picture from Disney Pixar movie Planes. (okay it's a stretch but I am using my ability to tie anything to Disney!)
10 Sneaky Ways to Get Fit and Healthy—Without Really Trying
Which leads me to the QOTD for Saturday, 6/7/14 and Sunday, 6/8/14: What small changes have you made that have added up to big results for you?
BBL with replies and my own answer.
As far as exercise goes, I move.... I pace while teaching and while on recess duty, I am also not above doing squats and high knees while on recess duty, I balance on one foot while proctoring tests and any time I have to just stand around, I sit on an exercise ball while folding laundry, I sprint up the stairs at home while doing things like carrying laundry, I walk laps when waiting at places like the airport, doctor's office, etc, I fidget (when possible without bugging others). I hate "real" exercise, but I don't mind these little changes.
As far as food is concerned.... most of these little changes have been made over time, but they have definitely added up for me! No more cream for my coffee.... skim milk or black only, adult beverages few and far between, no butter, no white bread or pasta and white potatoes rarely, no Diet Coke, no more potato chips (I really don't even miss them) and RARELY other "white" snacks (pretzels, tortilla chips), VERY limited sweets (other than fruit and the occasional WW treat or Skinny Cow treat), no fast-food, rare restaurant meals, very little packaged/prepared/processed food.
So that is a list of what I DON'T eat.... but what I do eat is..... TONS of produce (fruits and veggies - whole and juiced and in smoothies), lean protein (turkey, lean beef, low fat cheese, fat-free yogurt, egg whites, beans), water and seltzer, coffee (regular and decaf), green tea (regular and decaf), nuts, sugar-free nut butters, low-fat natural salad dressings, avocado, low carb/high fiber breads and rolls.
We always ate a fairly balanced diet, even when DH and I were both 80+ pounds overweight each... but much higher in (white) carbs and fat and lighter on the produce.
It has been a LOOONG process to get this far though! I certainly didn't start out this way 6 years ago!!
I drink a lot more water and park far away from any store I go to to get extra walking. This hasn't really resulted in BIG results, but I am trying to just be more active and healthy in general.
WOOHOO for summer vacation!!! ENJOY IT! You deserve it!
Hope DS's foot heals quickly!
Happy Sunday and I will be back tomorrow with the QOTD! :goodvibes
Hence the idea for a yard sale ;) !! We desperately needed some decluttering and the FB yard sale groups just move too slowly sometimes. Yesterday I finally managed to get rid at least 4 car loads of stuff from my house! It was SO liberating! Good luck with your Mom's stuff.
Ahh I have been so busy for the last few days I have had no time to log on!!
First of all... WOOHOO on the great loss! As far as the ab challenge goes, if there aren't any hard and fast rules, I say just pick up where you left off.
GOod job with the better choices! Keep walking as much as you can and you will BREEZE through your Disney vacation!!
**********************
Evening all and HAPPY Sunday! Hope it was a delightful one for EVERYONE! It was GORGEOUS here, but I didn't get to enjoy it too much, as I had to get ready for the busy work week ahead. I hit Target, Costco, and the market to prepare for the week..... I'm doing a 4 day juice fast (well, if I can make it that far... never done more than 3 days), so I had to buy lots of produce, but I've only washed/prepped enough for the next 24 hours so far. I will do it a half a day at a time. So every morning I'll make my breakfast juice and my lunch juice and any snack juices. Then when I get home I'll do my dinner juice. So I have the veggies washed and peeled and prepped for all of tomorrow's juices and all of Tuesday's juices, since I will be working double jobs on Tuesday.
Anyone heard/seen the buzz on Pinterest about "cauliflower fried rice"? I tried it tonight and it was DELICIOUS!! DS and DH both gobbled it up! They both knew it wasn't real rice, but that didn't even phase them! WOOHOO! A new healthy recipe that was a WINNER!! Other than using the "cauliflower rice", I used the same fried rice recipe I've used for a few years now (because we really like it).
Okay..... time to get buzzing along here! Laundry needs to be moved along and I need to hit the shower! I'll try to pop on in the morning before heading to work....................P
Boy, have I been lazy today! It was raining when I got up so, I just started out kinda laid back and just took it easy. So, I still need about 2,600 steps to hit my step goal. I'll get it done though. I should probably start on laundry too or else I'll be rather indecent at work tomorrow....
I would start where you are in the abs challenge -- otherwise you might do too much and hurt yourself. :flower3:
I have to confess that I had to bag the abs challenge with this unexpected moving gig. It would be the straw that breaks the camels back. :rotfl:
Hello! :) I hope everyone had a great weekend. I completely forgot to PM my weight on Friday and will do so right after this post. For some reason, I wasn't getting the thread notifications (grr), which meant I wasn't thinking about it and hence didn't keep up. Here I am. I'm going with this morning's weight, which is down a pound from the 1st - I'll take it!
QOTD catch-up:
Worst eating habit...talking myself into snacks I know I shouldn't be eating because I "deserve" them or "earned" them. I "deserve" to be healthy and in control and there are better ways to celebrate!
Favorite villain: Maleficent, Maleficent, Maleficent. I loooove her; she's always been the scariest to me. My home office is a little shrine to her. And we loved the new movie, too! I always knew there was more than met the eye, there - who gets that upset over not being invited to a party?! ;)
It took me MANY YEARS to remember that I DESERVE to be healthy more than I DESERVE an unhealthy treat. I still have to remind myself constantly! Especially when it has been really crazy!
I am SO ANXIOUS to see the movie, but I'm trying to wait to see it with BOTH of my kiddos.... but that may not happen. :sad2:
*****************
At work today in a challenging classroom, but the morning went well and the day is moving along quickly.
I overslept a bit this morning because the power went out after I hit my snooze button!! Fortunately I only lost a few minutes, but the juicing took much longer than I thought and we ended up running later than I intended. That being said, I did wash EVERYTHING before I left and wiped the counters, so at least I'm not going home to a fruit pulp mess! And I made enough juice for my breakfast, lunch, and a snack. I put some vanilla almond milk, ginger, and hemp protein in my breakfast juice to help keep me a little more full, but I'm not sure it helped much.
I've got a few errands to run after school so I'm saving my snack juice until then... especially since my lunch time today is pretty early (11:15 am).
Today's juice.... apple, pear, kiwi, carrot, cucumber, celery, red cabbage, beet, papaya, cantaloupe, spinach, kale. And dinner will probably be the same, but in different proportions... but I might throw in some citrus to changes things a bit.
TTYL...................P
Hi everyone! It seems like the first week was successful for most of you - not for me, but I knew that this would be the case. And the weekend was not great either... I really need to get going as of now! I really hate how much weight I put on!
At least I have gotten started with biking to work again. So, now I need to add more exercise. However in 95 degrees I don't feel like going outside for a run. I guess I need to pack my swim suit tomorrow to go for a swim after work. I guess I better pack my bag right now after I finished this post.
I updated the first page and because it looks so great, I thought I repost it here, so that everyone sees it:
That was a great video to watch!! Thank you for the link. Not sure it did motivate me because of what it was, or (more likely), I always feel motivated if I can read something related to weight loss. That's one of the reasons why I find this thread so motivating. It really helps me to have it as a constant reminder that I WANT to eat healthy and lose weight! :goodvibes
I haven't posted in a few days. I am mostly doing pretty well with eating. The other night we were heading to the movies and just couldn't get out the door. We had planned to stop at a place where I could at least make an ok choice, but bc of the time, ended up driving through somewhere and I just ordered and ate like everyone else. 1 cheeseburger, oreo shake, numerous fries and several handfuls of movie popcorn later. .. ughhh. Anyway, back on track yesterday. One night doesn't wreck you. It is when you have the one night, and then, and then. ..
Sent in my weight bc I forgot earlier. I am used to weigh in being on Monday. I think it is the same as last week, but I can't remember, lol.
WELL SAID!! Back on track is GREAT!! Good for you!
Evening all! This juicing is getting old QUICKLY this time. :confused3 Not sure why. Even with all of the prepping I did last night, I still had to prep ALL of my produce for tomorrow AND for most of Wednesday, since Tuesday is my double-work day. It took me well over an hour.... plus then I still had to actually JUICE the produce for my dinner tonight. :rolleyes2
Tonight's juice you ask?? I can't even REMEMBER everything.... but it was mostly what I had earlier today (minus the kiwi and papaya) plus one orange, broccoli, bok choy, and ginger. I also made about half of tonight's into a mock smoothie with a bit of unsweetened almond milk, some cinnamon, and a bit of vanilla tonight. It definitely helped add some variety. It was my first time juicing broccoli and it yielded a surprising amount of liquid.
I"m feeling a bit headachy and I'm afraid it may be due to hunger. Tonight's dinner was two large mason jars, each about 3/4 full. I tried to drink it really slowly, but it was gone in well under an hour and I am still hungry. Time for a cup of tea and to get away from the kitchen.
Working again tomorrow... I'll pop on when I can!..................P
Kudos to you for getting some different exercise in even when it is hot, Magdalene. :cool2:
And big :yay: and :woohoo: for all of our participants -- those color changes are impressive for a first weigh in! :cool1: Keep up the good work!:thumbsup2
I just wanted to let you know in case anyone is interested that I started my trip report:
I have finally started the cruise trip report, to be found here:
If You See It: Eat It! – Via Panama to Disneyland
Yes, the title does not go at all with the topic of this thread!! But there is a reason for it!!
Oooo cool! :cool2: I need some relaxing reading for the end of my crazy busy days!
Sent in my weight bc I forgot earlier. I am used to weigh in being on Monday. I think it is the same as last week, but I can't remember, lol.
Weigh ins are usually on Friday except on the first or last days of a challenge when they could be any day. The challenge information is always in those first few posts for handy reference. :)
WELL SAID!! Back on track is GREAT!! Good for you!
I"m feeling a bit headachy and I'm afraid it may be due to hunger. Tonight's dinner was two large mason jars, each about 3/4 full. I tried to drink it really slowly, but it was gone in well under an hour and I am still hungry. Time for a cup of tea and to get away from the kitchen.
Working again tomorrow... I'll pop on when I can!..................P
Hmmm I wonder what you could add to your juice to make it last a bit longer in your system? :confused3 I wake up in the night feeling hungry and then it is hard to get back to sleep. It is a process for sure! :hippie:
It was 111 here yesterday but I am making good progress. A big bobcat was right outside the back door last night. :cool2:
QOTD Tuesday, 6/10/14: What healthy ways do you start your day? It could be something from the list or something else. :goodvibes
Wow, Lisa, 111 degrees!!! :scared1: It's 95 here and I find that unbearable (but then nearly no place here as air conditioning!!).
Unfortunately my best intentions (I do have my swim bag here at work with me) were undone my a tooth problem coming up and the only time my dentist can see me is just when I was planning to be at the pool. I could go before, but after seeing pictures of the pool on Sunday in the local newspaper, I am not sure I will find space to swim... But then, I just take the same bag with me tomorrow and go swimming then. Its only going to be 85 tomorrow, perfect swimming weather!
QOTD:
The getting up earlier and eating breakfast in peace is actually something that I started and that I really enjoy a lot! Have not managed to incorporate veggies yet as I find eggs aren't a big enough breakfast for me. And cereal with veggies is a bit odd. Of course I could just eat a carrot first and then have my cereal as dessert.... :idea: I do like the idea of some stretching in the morning though! Does anyone have a tip where to find a good stretching routine?
