WISH Away the Pounds June Challenge -- Starting a Successful Summer!

QOTD for Thursday, June 12, 2014:
"If you FAIL to PLAN, you PLAN to FAIL." We've all heard that saying and whether we like it or not, it has a ring of truth to it, especially when it comes to healthy eating and exercise.

Do you plan your meals and exercise? How far in advance? How specific are you in your planning? What kind of a system do you use for your plans?

If you do not plan anything, do you think you would benefit from a plan? What holds you back from planning?

Since I'm starting all over again with this, I'm trying to plan my three major meals two or three days in advance. The grocery store is just a few minutes away, so it's not a big deal to go a couple times per week. I know in the fall, I'll have to do more advance planning, for a number of reasons. I'll have class four nights a week from 5:30-7 (at the earliest) or 8:15, plus be out at clinical placements at least two days during the week. I hate evening classes, because it's so inconvenient to try to plan eating around them.

Exercise I'm a little more skeptical about planning at the moment. I did sign up for the Y, and I can register for summer classes on Sunday, but the classes don't start until June 29th. I'm hoping to do Yoga on Tuesday, Aqua Zumba on Wednesday, AquaFit on Thursday, and regular Zumba on Friday. Saturday and Sunday I work 10 hour days, so I'll take off those two, as well as Monday.

Often I also feel a bit overwhelmed with all the work that goes into food planning, especially if I want to try new stuff. I need to research recipes, figure out how to adapt it for a one person portion etc.

I'm in the same boat. I like the WW Simple Start Meals because they're portioned for one person, but trying to adapt for just myself can be tricky!

I've done well so far today, but adapting to all the healthy food is going to take some doing. Tried the WW whole grain reduced calorie bread this morning and it was like cardboard. :rolleyes: Had a salad for lunch with edamame, and kidney beans over last night's quinoa for dinner. Have to make tomorrow's lunch tonight because I'll be helping with hearing screenings from 9-5!

I am such a slacker this week! I have hardly been around the thread at all. I haven't even kept up with QOTDs.

I didn't quote today's QOTD but it was something about planning...

Honestly, I'm not doing much planning these days. I didn't do it this past week but, the couple weeks before that, I planned breakfast for the week by making a big batch of oatmeal on Sunday. I need to be sure to do that again this next week because I like it so much more than grabbing a protein bar on the way out the door.

A few years ago, I lost 30 pounds just by tracking on Daily Plate (before it got swallowed up by Livestrong and the performance of the site completely tanked) and on MFP. I got so completely burned out on all the planning and tracking and adding everything up to exactly my calorie goal.

Since then, too much planning and tracking just feels like torture to me. I can do some loose planning - just enough to make a grocery list - but not down to the calorie.

Luckily, one benefit of the Plexus products I'm using is that it helps me to make better choices in the moment so, it saves me from my non-planning self.

Anyway... I just wanted to wish everyone a happy weigh-in tomorrow. :thumbsup2

And, Gretchen! Glad to have you back girl. I just returned last month after a nearly 3 year absence so, I guess, we're kinda starting over again together! Welcome back. :goodvibes

Happy Friday everyone!

The weekend is nearly there and that means that Weigh In Day is here as well.

We won't talk about what the scale said to me (not good, but thanks to the heat and TOM I know that some of that is water and will be gone by next week!). But I am ready to get all your PMs with your new weight and hopefully you have better numbers to report than me!!

You will definitely need to do some advanced planning with that busy schedule this fall! Hopefully by then you will be on a good path and it won't see too daunting.

Use your Simple Start book!! It has WONDERFUL meal ideas in it!

Then find another light bread that you do enjoy! Even though I LOVE WW and I work for the company, I actually buy very few WW/Smart Ones products. There are lots of great light/low cal/low carb/high fiber bread products out there! Check out Sandwich Thins, Bagel Thins, and Flatout bread products!

It is a PITA when something that you have been using and something that works well for you, stops being available.

Since then, too much planning and tracking just feels like torture to me. I can do some loose planning - just enough to make a grocery list - but not down to the calorie.

Happy Friday the 13th everyone! Hope you all have a LUCKY day.... especially on the scale. Although I know it isn't LUCK that gives us the scale numbers.... it is hard work, planning, determination, and effort!!

I'll post the QOTD before heading off to work. I'm working as a one-on-one with a cutie pie girl with CP today.... so no computer access. But I'll pop on when I get home! TTYL......................P

QOTD for Friday, June 13, 2014:

In honor of FUN FRIDAY, a full moon, and Friday the 13th, here is your QOTD!

Are you SUPERSTITIOUS?? If so, about what things? Black cats? Broken mirrors? Do you notice a change in the behaviors of people around you during a full moon (especially if you work with children or in a hospital)?

I'd have to say no, I'm not superstitious. I'm trying to think of the last time I would have reacted to some traditional superstition but I'm not sure. I suppose I do the "knock on wood" thing sometimes but just as a thing to say - I don't actually believe that it changes anything.

My sister is a nurse and she worked in the ER for a while so, yes, I've heard stories about crazy stuff going on around the full moon.

--------------------------------------------

Weigh-in day! Oh my gosh! I was so surprised this morning when I found that I'm down another 2.2 today. :yay: And that's after losing 2 last week. I'm so excited to be moving (somewhat rapidly) in the right direction. So happy! :goodvibes

Fun question!!

I think I have one thing I am a bit superstitious about - it's something my mother always used to say: Bad things happen three at a time. I still remember the day that I was admitted to the hospital because they thought I had hepatitis (it turned out to be glandular fever), my father had a car accident which destroyed the car and my parents found out that they had to pay more taxes than they thought... Since then when something bad happens, I look out for the other two bad things. And once I have figured out what they are, I feel safe that that is it for now! So, I kind of use it to my advantage! :goodvibes

About the full moon: Nothing I have witnessed in others, but I often dream a lot around a full moon. I wake up and think about all the stuff I dreamt off during the night and then afterwards figure out that it was a full moon.

COACHES NEEDED!!!

Thank you to our coaches so far, Lisa and Pam, for helping to keep this thread going! As of June 16 (Monday) we don't have any more coaches lined up. So think about whether you can't commit to coaching for 5 days. It is really easy, just post a question of the day in the morning (or the evening before) and if you can, try to do some replies during the days in order to help the chat along! Since it is very quiet at the moment, it really is not a lot of work!

So, use the weekend and think about it!! The time slots available are
June 16-20
June 21-25
June 26-30

Send me a PM or post here on the thread if you want to give coaching a try!!

Happy Friday! I got up at stupid o'clock this morning and ran 8 miles with a friend. Whoosh. :) We went to McDs for breakfast afterward - Egg White Delight deliciousness was the perfect post-run reward! Down one this week...slow and steady!

QOTD: I'm not necessarily superstitious, but I am a bit OCD about things. So, for example, I have to set my alarm twice every night. I have to do certain things certain ways - certain orders, etc. - or I feel like I've "jinxed" something. And then it bothers me until I move on to the next thing. :) I've often thought that it intertwines a bit with superstitions, but only in part. Then again, a black cat ran across the road in front of me on a run last week, and it definitely gave me pause! (Not paws, haha.)

DD7's dance recital is tomorrow, and we still have a week and a half of school left (June 25...so far away); we're all ready for summer here! MIL arrives today, woohoo! She'll enjoy the recital with us and stay through the weekend, which means DH and I get a date night Saturday. :)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

I don't have many superstitions. I do still "knock on wood". Also, if I spill salt, you can bet that I will still be throwing some over my shoulder.

I was a little concerned when I went to step on the scale this morning, because I had to do a 6 day dose pack of steroids. I was pleasantly surprised when the scale showed a 1.1 lb loss.

Magdeline, I posted previously in the thread that I would be willing to coach June 16-20. :goodvibes

I hope everyone has a good weigh in today!

Oh, sorry, I must have missed it!! Thank you very much!!

So, now only the two last spots are open!! Any volunteers??

I have worked in an ER, so that is why I happened to mention hospitals~!

I have been told that as well, and I'll be darned if it doesn't seem true most of the time!

About the full moon: Nothing I have witnessed in others, but I often dream a lot around a full moon. I wake up and think about all the stuff I dreamt off during the night and then afterwards figure out that it was a full moon.

Interesting!

Nice job on the run and on the smart breakfast choice!

Enjoy your date night!! Any special plans?

WONDERFUL!!

*********************

Good afternoon all! The day at school went by quickly... it was a crazy mixed-up day with lots of schedule changes, indoor recess due to rain, etc, etc.

I've got homemade pizza on the schedule for tonight, so that will be fairly easy. And I've already picked and washed the greens for a salad, so dinner will be easy.

I need to pack up to head to DD's tomorrow and fold some laundry before I head to bed later, but that is about the only pressing thing on my schedule for tonight.

I was pleased to see the scale down a good amount today (thanks in no small part to my juice cleanse/fast). After struggling to get it moving in the right direction, I will definitely try to be HAPPY with this number. I wanted to be about 4 pounds lower by this time this month, but... oh well.

Off to get some stuff done..................P

Evening all! I'm killing time before I can make my FP+ reservations for my August trip at midnight-hoping to get that elusive Anna & Elsa Meet & Greet!

When I weighed in this morning, I was shocked. Down 7.2 pounds since I first weighed in on Wednesday morning. Guess two days of eating healthy will do that! Today I splurged a little, but stayed within my point range. Was supposed to go see Maleficent with my mom and brother, but that fell through. :sad2:

Are you SUPERSTITIOUS?? If so, about what things? Black cats? Broken mirrors? Do you notice a change in the behaviors of people around you during a full moon (especially if you work with children or in a hospital)?

No, I wouldn't say I'm superstitious, though as others have said, I will "knock on wood" from time to time. But yes, I definitely notice a change in people around the full moon. Things get a little nuttier at my group home job, and drivers always seem to be dumber around this time. Seriously, it's like everyone in this city forgets how to drive!

Morning all! Here is your QOTD for Saturday, June 14, 2014:

So here it is.... a new week ahead.... bright and shiny, just waiting for possibilities, opportunities, adventures. What you do today and tomorrow can be assuring that you have a good week ahead (both for health and real life). What challenges do you see ahead and how are you planning to overcome them?

What are TWO THINGS you can do today or tomorrow to make this week ahead a successful one????

I am not particularly superstitious but I do notice things are a bit crazier in my line of work when the moon is full! :confused3

I need to get home and get some rest for the next couple of days. I've had one of the most stressful weeks of my life packing and moving my mom's house by myself while simultaneously getting it ready to be put on the market. I encountered snakes, scorpions and even a bobcat. :faint:

Gretchen, welcome back! Add me to the list of folks who follow your FB posts. I think you had a great time at DL recently! :cool2:

Kudos to all of you who are posting losses this week! I will have to wait and see what WW says this week to see how I did.

Have a great week-end!

What are TWO THINGS you can do today or tomorrow to make this week ahead a successful one????

My two things iare
1 - help make my husbands Father's Day special so we have a good week as a family, it's the first week of summer for our boys, and he's a stay at home dad.
2- Take stock of of grocery supplies and plan out the meals for the week, trying for healthy filling meals

I am a planner, but not a super strict planner. I plan dinners for the week ahead and grocery shop once a week. I am flexible, though and often flip things around based on schedules.

I do not plan exercise (except at the moment while my sister and I train to walk a half marathon next weekend). I used to plan exercise better when I went to a gym with classes. I definitely miss those. I should definitely make an exercise plan for the next few weeks!

I am not too superstitious. I have to say, though, being a teacher and DH working in the ER, we notice a difference on a full moon day/night!

I think my big challenge is going to be not being on a schedule since school is over. I am so used to waking up, eating breakfast, and eating lunch at certain times.

Two things I can do are:
1. Make sure I have healthy, quick snacks on hand for in between meal times or when I am out running around.
2. Make an exercise plan. I HAVE to add some strength and yoga back into my life!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey all!
It was a beautiful day today (although it started a bit chilly). DS11 loves all things Bigfoot and there was a Bigfoot festival about 45 minutes away, so we went. It was a typical fair with Bigfoot vendors and speakers added in. He was so excited. He spent some money on 2 replica Bigfoot foot print casts. Just what I need in my house :rotfl2: We went to one speaker and I now know more than I need to about the actual foot of a Bigfoot. But, it was a fun family day :)
I am actually going to go to bed pretty soon. The last two nights I didn't get to bed until 11:00 (which I am not used to) and still woke up at 6 am. So, since DS is an acolyte tomorrow at 9:30 church, we are all getting to bed earlier tonight.
DH is working midnights tonight and tomorrow night so we will barely see him for Father's Day. So, we have no real plans which is fine by me because housework has slipped away this week. I am also SLOWLY getting DSs to go through their closets and pull out clothes that don't fit or they don't wear. I'd like to finish that up tomorrow...at least I can dream we will :)
Okay, off to get DSs ready for bed and I will probably watch about 1/2 hour more of the World Cup game that is on. I'll check back in soon!
