Wine and Dine 2015

This is my first half marathon and first rundisney event and I am so excited! It's hard to believe it's 3 weeks away! :D I have been training with a 1:1 interval and feel very comfortable with this. I am afraid I will be stopping to walk too often. I guess it will be okay as long as I run on the side. Does anyone else use this short of an interval?

I use a 30:30 (sometimes 30:45) interval so you have nothing to worry about.

edit to add that you should just clearly state you are walking. I usually put up my right had and say walking when my buzzer goes off.

Is it crazy I am thinking of putting together a Green Arrow costume? I know it isn't Disney but my fiancé loves Green Arrow and I would get such a kick out of wearing a feminine version of the costume with out him knowing until I finish haha.

Does anyone have a rough list of characters that are usually on the course? I know weather may play a part in what characters are able to be on the course. Just trying to get an idea who we want to stop for!

I'm unsure of how to privately message you. Please let me know if you still have the ticket and how to contact you
I tried to PM you but I think your profile is not allowing them... I had already made arrangements with someone for my ticket, but I will let you know if it falls through.

You will have a great time! :) Don't worry about walking a lot, you will not be the only one doing it! Just make sure to glance over your shoulder before you stop to make sure no one is right behind you. When it was crowded in the beginning of Tink, I did do the thing where I put my hand up but after people started spreading out more, I just looked to make sure I wasn't going to collide with someone immediately behind me.

I ran my last long run, a half here in town today! It was VERY hilly and I finished in 2:53:56, so I'm hoping that bodes well for my sub-2:45 goals at W&D! I was kind of hoping to sub-2:45 today, but there was a massive hill (about 0.3 mile long and an 8% grade ) at mile 8 and then some more hills during miles 11 and 12. I had to walk a lot those 3 miles and that dashed all my dreams of sub-2:45 today, plus I had a lot of weird lower leg cramping that I never usually have, due to all the hills I think (my feet were doing these weird cramps that were making my calves cramp up, and also the top/front of my ankles were killing me).

The PoT race predictor was eerily accurate... when I plugged my 10K time, also in this area with some hills, although not as many as today's half, into the PoT site, it gave me a 2:53 predicted finish. Today's race is a new PR for me since Tink was my first half and that was 3:15:41. :)

You'll be pleasantly surprised how many people you will find with that interval!

Just remember etiquette - stay to the side and make sure to raise your hand when you're about to slow down to a walk interval and you'll be great!

Heck, Galloway now does a :15/:15 interval. (I'm not kidding... he thinks it's awesome, I think it's ridiculous).

As others have said, don't stress about walking. There will be some people walking the entire thing.

As others have also said, stay to the right - just like on the driving roads, the slower traffic should keep right.

When I'm doing intervals, I set my timer for 5 beeps so that I put my hand up to signify I'm going to be walking (and if I know I'm in a crowd I'll say "Walking!" loudly.

Look behind you to ensure that someone isn't directly behind you before stopping - if there is, move to the side BEFORE dropping to the walk, even if it means you run a few more steps.

If you wear headphones (don't stress it, I wear them too), keep the volume low so that you can hear if anyone says anything (such as "passing" or "on your left") as well as hear any emergency vehicles that might need to get by. (As hard as it is to believe, there was a woman once at Princess who was pretty much strolling in the middle of the course as an ambulance was trying to get through - and her music was so loud she was totally unaware. Another runner finally had to literally jump in front of her to get her attention and tell her to MOVE.)

Remember me, that poster that ran into a tornado on my long run a few weeks ago? Well. Today I was randomly hit with HAIL. Either I have horrible luck or I am really not wanted at this race!! :crutches:

I got 7 miles of a 10.5 in. I have a 12 scheduled for next weekend and then taper. I have heard it is still effective to split a long run between 2 days if you must. Anyone have experience with this? I don't want to do a full long run tomorrow. Seems it could just be too much and too close to risk it!

I can't remember if this was already asked on here or not but besides a change of clothes, especially after last year's weather, what do you make sure you/your cheer squad have packed for you for after the race? Most of the other halfs I've ran don't have a big after party so I haven't hung around too long after I finish.

Flip flops! I forgot mine after princess and hated myself for it! I also take some kind of baby wipe, face powder and makeup brush, and mascara for medal photos. I will probably take a jacket and clean shirt since this after party runs so late. I may take a tote bag in case the plastic one breaks.

I wasn't going to make a gear check bag because my parents will be waiting at the finish line for me, but I can't tell if I will be able to see them to get my spare clothes before I get out of the area with the changing tents. Is family allowed in that big area in the center of the finish? It says at the end that family can meet up with their runners in the Imagine Lot but I can't tell if that means after the runners exit the changing tent or if they are allowed to go in through the marked entry. I feel like maybe they can since they specifically marked the changing tent "Runners Only" but I just want to make sure. :)

I will probably bring some wipes, a dry shirt and bra, dry socks, different sneakers, and if it's cool, some capri pants and a sweat shirt or pullover. I don't know how long I'm going to stay at the party all by myself. I do want to sample the food booths, though. :) I wish they weren't so far away from the parking lot though! ;) We're going to Epcot that morning before going to Disney Springs for lunch, but I'm not going to want to sample food booth food in the morning before the race.

This is great advice and excellent race etiquette. Abruptly coming to a stop without looking around is a good way to have someone run into you at full speed, possibly injuring both of you in the process. Most runners will try to avoid you if they can and have some advance warning, and a hand up, a declaration of "walking!", and a quick look behind you will help this happen.

I am running 1:30 for Wine & Dine so you'll have plenty of company with the intervals. I agree with all the advice. Be aware of your surroundings, signal and announce your walk interval. If you try your best to be courteous it'll all work out fine. Good luck!
