Wine and Dine 2015

I'm lame too, and probably won't plan to run in costume. I just want to be comfortable and run in what I'm used to. I may decide to wear Minnie ears though. Has anyone ever run in those (the ones like a headband)?

Also, question for someone who's done Wine & Dine before, can you tell me how the course is (in terms of hills and stuff)? Is it pretty flat? I'm just miserable when it comes to hills, and want to plan to work on that if needed.

I don't know whether/how the course DH and DS ran was certified, but they did a trail 10K and have used it as proof of time for both the TOT 10 miler and the Star Wars Half and it was accepted no problem, so I do know that trail races work. Here in Colorado, you are way more likely to find a trail than a road course, anyway. It honestly never occurred to us to worry about it being a trail race rather than road.

Thank you! good to know.

I have never run the W&D specifically, but ran through all 4 parks at the Marathon. DW is flat, in my opinion, except for any overpasses that we may encounter. Animal Kingdom has some grades to it, but nothing that I would consider a hill.

On the subject of costumes, I really wanted to have my fiance dress up like Stitch and me dress up like Lilo but he wasn't thrilled at the idea :scratchin So now I'm planning a solo costume and have already spent a couple hours on pinterest trying to decide what to wear :hyper: For those who have run in a costume, did you break it in ahead of time to make sure it would work well? (I can just see me running around town dressed as a princess :rotfl:)

Getting caught up here: thanks for posting the link to the USATF search. Just searched, and the 10 miler in Harrisburg I'm doing on 3/29 is USATF certified as of this month. Looks like we do have some races in the bag on certified courses, but also a bunch that can also fit the bill (online results, chip timed).
I doubt we'll do costumes, though once I ask DW, all bets are off on that one...
We're doing the Hershey 10k in April. It will be interesting to compare running in that park versus the ones at WDW.
We plan on staying together until we head to the corrals. Then, it is whatever pace works best for each of us. We tried to run the Crescent Lake loop together a few years ago. Made 1 lap, and then DW said to me, "go. You're really messing up your stride to keep with me."
I got in 9 miles yesterday at 9 minutes per mile. DW got in a couple of miles today.

DH and I are registered for a 10k May 3rd, it was the only local one I could find (there are tons of 5ks and 1/2s but that distance is hard to come by).
I've been upping my treadmill distance and have done 6 miles in an hour 3 times in the last couple of weeks. But I have an easier time running on a treadmill and will probably struggle some when I switch to outside running. Now if only the weather would cooperate. On the days when I have the time to do an outside run its either been raining or cold or really windy! And DH is coaching our sons lacrosse team so he has had no time for training! He said I'd probably have to do the 10k by myself and I reminded him there is no reason to do it if we don't do it together because we definitely want to run W&D together.

Does anyone know of specific sites that have cool running shirts? Don't think I'll be able to talk DH into a costume and I too am a little worried about being comfortable. But I would love a red running shirt with big white polka dots or something like that. Just not sure where to look?

I would strongly recommend doing a test run in your costume. Go after dark so the neighbors will only think your half nuts for running in the dark. They won't be able to see your outfit. :goodvibes

I agree, I ran a 9 mile training run in my costume and I'm glad I did. They were running clothes but there was one bit that rubbed wrong against my arm and really irritated it. I knew to pin that piece down before the race thanks to the training run.

As far as shirts, I haven't tried it yet but I've heard a lot of people recommend Rawthreads .com. I got my Vanellope costume from etsy. https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/iGlowRunning?ref=l2-shopheader-name

I also recommend doing a trial run in your costume. I bought some blue running capris for under my Anna tutu and couldn't even run up the block with them. If not for a training run I would have struggled through even a 5K in them!

you absolutely will want to do a trial run in your costume, there is a runners mantra that is "nothing new on race day" , there is enough stress involved with any race the last thing you want to do is find out your costume uncomfortable to run in at mile 2 of your half, take it out for a test run even if its around the block that should give you an idea of how it will feel sure you might get a strange look or two but who cares you are training for RunDisney 8) , im not doing wine and dine but we are planning a trip for marathon weekend and I do plan on getting in on the Disney spirit by running in what im calling a pseudo costume...im going as mike wazowski from Monsters inc. so basically a lime green running shirt with an eyeball design affixed to it and green running shorts topped off with a Monsters Universty hat easy peasy but still fun. my wife is going as Rapunzel after her haircut (she has hair very similar to the animated movie version after the cut) so her outfit will be a purple shirt with the ribbon design on front and a purple tutu again easy but still getting in the spirit of Disney

I know this is from 2012, but the course really hasn't changed enough for it to matter in regards to elevation.
•The first four arrows indicate standard highway overpasses (over World Drive [~mile 1.25], Buena Vista Drive [~mile 1.9], BV Drive again [~mile 6.5] and World Drive again [~mile 7.25]--out and back to visit Animal Kingdom and all...).
•Arrow #5 [~mile 7.5] indicates the overpass over the front drive to Hollywood Studios, it is probably the steepest elevation change on the course. And its on a curve.
•Arrow #6 [~mile 8.5] shows the ramp from World Drive to Buena Vista Drive.
•Arrow #7 [~mile 11.6] is the pedestrian bridge between the Boardwalk Resort and the Dolphin. Careful coming down this hill onto the wooden boardwalk that surrounds the Yacht & Beach Clubs.
•Arrow #8 [~mile 12.25] is the last hurdle. It is the hill that breaks the sight line from the Epcot Resorts and the International Gateway entrance of Epcot.

I'm actually a little jealous that so many people have friends/family willing to run with them! While both I and my husband are running the 1/2, we will most likely not be running together. I've only ever run races by myself because my husband is a much faster runner than me and I wouldn't dream of asking him to run with me. Plus, I plan to stop for character pictures and he has already said he's going to try to PR and has no intention of stopping for anything other than water.

Maybe I'll meet some nice WISHers in my corral to keep me company. :)

Maybe we can met up! I plan on taking it easy and just enjoying the atmosphere, characters etc too, also DH has a much faster pace then me so we already know that we will not be running together. I've even teased him that he can finish and then come back and find me then finish again! I've never run a Disney race before, but I figure I will have no problem finding others with great attitudes to laugh with!

You may chuckle at this, but its solid advice. My first runDisney event was the Mickey's Halloween (or whatever it was called...) running from the Ticket and Transportation Center through the Magic Kingdom and back, preceding the first Wine & Dine Half. I thought I would be clever and run as Bacchus, Roman god of wine and festivals. I even made a pretty spiffy laurel of grape and leaves (which I had to wear on the plane down to Florida as there wasn't room in my luggage...). A toga may be fine for a costume or frat party, but it is certainly not conducive to running. At least not without practice.

When you submit a POT, how long before you know if it was accepted... I probably won't be doing a USATF 10k in early May, but if I find that it's not accepted, I'd probably try to find one sometime during the summer.

Is anything that's chip timed and put on by a website that hosts lots of races certified?

I think you've probably already received your answer, but the short answer is yes. If there is a website that you can link, they'll accept that time. (At least that was the way it worked last year for us at the W&D and Avengers races).
