Wine and Dine 2015

Hello everyone! I am new to DIS Boards and joined because I am training for this year's race! I am so excited and am looking forward to reading what everyone has to say!

The next thing on my list is to find a 10K here in Florida - I agree with some of the comments I have previously read, it's so hard to find ones during the summer here!

Question for you guys! It may be in here and I"m just not looking close enough. I had thought all resorts could be used now for race weekends and the buses would be running for the events. Is this still the case and in effect for W&D? We are staying for 10 days after the race and weren't going to use the race discount and stay at a different resort. Just want to make sure I won't be stranded at 4am ;)

Wine and Dine is a smaller race than some of the others so only certain hotels will have the transportation for race events. You can see the list at http://www.rundisney.com/travel/disneyworld/

I saw that floating around on the facebook group - that is not the case with W&D, it only is for the bigger race weekends like princess and marathon. For W&D only a few different hotels have transportation. Try going to the rundisney site under travel, wine and dine. I'm not sure where you are booked, but maybe there is another hotel you can walk to, like GF vs. Poly or something?

Welcome!! If you don't mind me asking whereabouts in florida do you live? I live in the panhandle and am actually driving to thomasville ga for my PoT 10k

I'm waiting on one new race in my area for June to see if it is certified. Other than that, there is nothing until the fall. Ugh! It's a trail run, so I don't know if that will make a difference in my pace. I know the area well, as it's where we walk our dogs sometimes.

How bad will it be starting in the last corral if my pace is around 11-12 min/mile? I currently do between 12-13 min/mile with some hills where I run so I'm thinking i'll be a little better by November. I just started running last September and did a virtual 10K and my Garmin had it at 1:19. I'm not looking to PR, just have a good time and finish. lol Also I don't plan on stopping for any pictures. Any advice other than get to the front of the corral?

I may be wrong but I want to say only road races are certified by the usatf (which stinks because we have a 10k trail run later in May in town but it's uncertified). Anyone with more expertise know for sure?

I live outside of Orlando - I am looking all over the state for my PoT 10k and may think of going to Georgia or Alabama if I can't find anything. I'm still new to my training so I am trying to wait until June/July but I may have to move it up to May.

Bored at work and just went on to see what people were saying for some entertainment. WOW! Everyone c/o of not wanting to run by themselves.. Yes I get it, I would've been upset too had I not been able to register my boyfriend. I've never run a half marathon but I've run tons of 5Ks and I always make friends during them.. Soo ok it sucks that your friends didn't get in with you, but you're really going to waste $190 and not run because you have to do it by yourself? I don't get it :/

I'm actually a little jealous that so many people have friends/family willing to run with them! While both I and my husband are running the 1/2, we will most likely not be running together. I've only ever run races by myself because my husband is a much faster runner than me and I wouldn't dream of asking him to run with me. Plus, I plan to stop for character pictures and he has already said he's going to try to PR and has no intention of stopping for anything other than water.

Maybe I'll meet some nice WISHers in my corral to keep me company. :)

That does stink! Where I live, we have lots of trail runs...none certified. I thought maybe because this was new it might. I live in a small rural area with not much around. To get a certified 10K and not travel two or more hours is hard to find. I actually signed up for the Hershey 10K in April (would have to stay over night as its a long drive) and I was told it isn't certified but the Half Marathon they do is. Not sure why the 10K couldn't be certified too...lol

I'll probably still do the 10K and try to submit it and see what happens. It is time chipped and results are posted online.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Why is everyone so concerned about USATF certification? The post from many pages back in which rundisney replied to a question about official certification seemed pretty clear to me. Sounded to me like as long as it was an official race with online results (no virtual runs or anything like that) you'd be fine. I had no problem with a 10K event that was not USATF certified in previous races.

Do you think as long as it is time chipped and they post online results that I could do a trail run? This race is literally 5 miles from me and would be perfect. I'm getting confused as to what is accepted and I thought the reply someone got from Run Disney wasn't very clear. Maybe I read it wrong. lol

Meet ups? Yes! I'm getting in on Thursday night and am planning to hit Raglan Road in DD (aka Springs) about 9pm for a late dinner. Let me know if anyone wants to join. I'll be at POR thru the following Saturday as well. I can't wait! Now I just need to get rid of this nasty illness that I have so I can get back to training. It's been a real bummer for the past month. I feel so far behind where I wanted to be with my running. :sad2:

Has anybody who tried to enter the Wine & Dine through Marathon Tours heard yet if they were accepted? The email said that you would be notified by Friday at 5:00 if accepted. I didn't fill out my 1st form correctly so I had to fax a second one an hour later which probably sealed my fate. Holding out hope for good news, but wish I knew either way so I wouldn't be worrying about it any longer.

Thank you for posting. Somehow I missed that post! Sounds like maybe my chip timed trail race in town would be fine then. :thumbsup2

If he runs a 10 min/mile pace, he'll be beyond frustrated starting in the last corral. He needs to get a proof of time submitted to get him up to where he should be.

I'm sure he will be too! While he insists he's going to run with me, he was frustrated at our local 5K last weekend when running with his squadron because it was so bogged down and slow. I think he'll be much happier starting in a higher corral.

I live on the panhandle in Pensacola. I'm running the Fiesta 10K for POT May 2nd.

I don't know whether/how the course DH and DS ran was certified, but they did a trail 10K and have used it as proof of time for both the TOT 10 miler and the Star Wars Half and it was accepted no problem, so I do know that trail races work. Here in Colorado, you are way more likely to find a trail than a road course, anyway. It honestly never occurred to us to worry about it being a trail race rather than road.
