Wine and Dine 2015

When we passed him he had a guy down giving him pushups for being on his phone - and the guy was a good sport and did them. I increased my pace slightly to avoid getting called out!!

The hill going up into Hollywood Studios. Is usually around mile 8 ish but was mile 2 ish this time. Has the green army men.
Oh! I guess I got there at just the right time? :) They were calling out for people to put their cameras in selfie mode and stop for selfies. There was no line at all, I just stopped next to one of them and took my first ever selfie and it came out all blurry. :) I didn't even really notice that it was uphill! Yay for distractions I guess? :)

That is a great story.

I am sorry for the comment about the high numbers in the top. I just didn't know there were people who would legitimately get special stickers to move them up since rD said there would be no corral changes. So I thought those people were corral jumpers like others had mentioned seeing.

But now I know. :)

When i read the "But now i know" it brought back memories. So In the best Paul Harvey voice...."the rest of the story" Man I miss all of his show's.

I was one of the ones complaining about corral jumpers (on this board, not at the race), but please understand that was not a bash on walkers. We all go at our own pace and that's fine. What I think is lost on some folks is that it is difficult for me to slow my pace and run consistently at that slower pace. My husband runs slower than I do, and I have to run ahead, and circle back for him. It's actually hard on me to run his pace because it's not comfortable. When I run his pace, I am more tired and miserable than when I run my own pace, even though his is slower.

So, my complaint about corral jumpers is perhaps more directed at lack of courtesy in blocking the path that some (but by all means not all) folks exhibit. I was assigned D, ran in E with my DH, and at the very start of the race, had a difficult time running around 4 women from L corral who darted and weaved in unison to prevent passing. I hesitated to pass in the grass based on the warnings on this board, but finally, after I saw about 5 other runners do it, I ran in the grass to get around them.

Yes, it is rude to tear down any participant, walker or runner. No one is better than another running these races. But like the walkers and the other folks, I should run my race. That requires courtesy from everyone, which includes placing yourself in a position where you are not negatively affecting other participants (to the extent you are able).

The 5K was my daughters and my first runDisney race. We had a great time and wanted to say how great the rD people were on the course. There have been a lot of posts on this board so I'll repeat my story from earlier. My DD28 is mobility impaired due to a massive brain hemorrhage when she was 17. She is partially paralyzed on her right side. Earlier this year both of my daughters and I decided we wanted to try a rD race. Wine & Dine weekend was a great weekend for us so we started training. I do the Galloway method, my DD24 does Zombies Run and DD28 has taken classes at her local running store, Luke's Locker. Since my oldest physically can't run, we took turns walking with her while the other ran ahead for a place in line at the photo ops. We decided to go ahead and stop at all of the character stops. If we got swept, that was okay. Well, we didn't get swept. We finished next to last at around 1:34. Along the course the workers could see my daughter struggling and they cheered her on. One even called her a rock star. We were very proud of our finish. DisneyWorld posted a montage of runners for both the 5K and Half on Facebook and Twitter and to our surprise our picture was included. That's us in the upper left as Huey, Dewey and Louie. It was a great experience and one I hope to repeat.

That's great! :) Congrats to your daughter for all her hard work!

I have read that many of you want better communication from runDisney about last minute, unexpected changes. I can understand wanting the information, but how do you propose that they get the info out to 14,000 people?

This is Disney... they have a solution for everything. I'm sure they could develop some really cool magic band with a text feature (I'm imagining something like the Nike fuel band text display). Wouldn't that be cool swag!

I am running the Dark Side 1/2 in April so that will now will probably be my first 1/2 marathon unless I run a local one first. I hope to "see" you guys on that forum as well.

See you on the Dark Side forum. That will be my first rD event.

I noticed this in the comments on the rD Facebook page. Might be of interest to people who were intending to use this as PoT. I don't know if it means they'll treat it literally as a half ( that would be fast! :)) or if they'll do the time prediction based on it even though it wasn't one of the predefined distances. My guess is the latter.

Auburn May I called runDisney as I am using this time for the princess half as well and they said they will honor it and you can put it as the half. They know about the race being cut short

That's weird as early today someone said it would not be accepted and that runDisney was working on an official release regarding Wine and Dine but was very busy since Avengers is this weekend.

I can imagine... hopefully they'll get an official statement about it out once the Avengers people get their weekend. :)

I thought PoT for Princess was due 17 November, but when I checked today (I just used my previous 10k again) it had been changed to 20 Nov. I double checked my email from rD, and it does say the 17th; but today when I actually submitted it, I think the form said the 20th. Maybe this is to give them the time to get Avengers done and figured out before they deal with what they're going to do with W/D.

Logistically, I'm not sure what they'll do. Our split is at 2.9- so less than a 5k. The total distance is more than a 10k by .5 mile. I don't think there was a timing mat out at exactly the 10k mark? I'm sure they could extrapolate either one; but it's probably not something that has been preset. They're probably still trying to figure out just what they are going to do.....

poor rD. Putting myself in their shoes? No matter what they do- there is no way they're not going to take some heat from someone for this weekend.

I doubled back to the information tent after we'd changed and made a run to the car (man was THAT a long walk lol) on our way back into EPCOT. Now that I think on it, this was just before we made it even with the beer area and heard the final person come in (see my post earlier). Anyway, when I asked them, they said that rD had not decided on the official distance- which I guess was not wholly true? They also said that they will be accepting W/D as a PoT- but had not yet decided just HOW that time would be posted (ie as a 10k, as the literal miles and extrapolate estimated finish from that, or something else) or used. I figure we won't know until rD says- but for me, I used a safer known PoT; the one I used to get into W/D since I know it works.

It's slower than I ran on Saturday; but that's okay. Now that I know what to expect that's a hurdle I can deal with. And it's not so slow that I think it'll be the difference of a whole corral anyway. Either way, using either time, I'm probably in the same corral at Princess. One positive of running this race this weekend? I'm learning to roll with the punches. :rolleyes1:rotfl2:

It's important for me to seed myself among the people closest to my pace, for that day, not what I ran back at Proof of Time day, months before.

This is good advice. I mean, had you have ran with those people? Definitely you'd have gone up in flames ;)

I really, really, really, really, really wish they'd push Princess PoT back to after Thanksgiving - there are SO many local races for people to do a makeup half for PoT (including me - I'm actually doing a 10 instead of a half on Thanksgiving), that it would be nice for them to throw this bone to our little race community.

We have to do PoT so far in advance for these races, and with most places not offering race opportunities at qualifying lengths during the summer, people are really left with few options for PoT races. But Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving always has races.

If I get in the wrong corral faster runners should be allowed to give me an atomic wedgie!

I hope, for the sake of runners not party to the shenanigans of this weekend, the 6.7 miler time isn't accepted as a half-marathon time. RunDisney should use use a Jack-Daniels-like formula and predict a possible half marathon time. Otherwise they're just drinking it. There are already too many disparate running paces in one corral.

I am not only going to defend this comment- because I absolutely agree with it- but I want to say that in the case of DH, who was in C and SAW the letters on people's bibs for a lower corral- his comment about corral jumping was 100% true. In the terms of me saying that someone didn't belong where they were (not that I think your comment was directed towards me- I just want to clarify because I happened to be one who said something similar to this sentiment) I'm the last to think because someone is walking they don't belong in the corral with me. Hello? I do a 90/30 interval. It'd be like me calling the kettle black considering I only 'run' for 90 seconds myself LOL

I did get nearly tripped up by someone trying to pass me (and I was RUNNING at that moment) as she came close enough to me that she kicked my foot. I think she was trying to squeeze between me and the person I was running next to. It was somewhere around Sarge's hill (just after I think) so I know the course was tight. I ended up doing the same thing somewhere in HS pre-Osbourne because I was coming up around someone and she moved into my path. I gestured (we both had on headphones) to her that I was sorry; so if you're on here random person- I didn't mean to try to run you over!!

But honestly? I don't understand the mentality against walking. Not all of us are built for endurance. Myself? I'm naturally more able to sprint and go as fast as I can for a few 100 meters. But asking me to run like the wind for 13 miles? Not as easy for the ole body to do. I probably will never be one who runs a race from the second they start to the second they finish. It just isn't natural for me. I can run for longer and longer stints but it'll be a long time before I can a whole half marathon without stopping....
I doubt it actually was, since I'm sure this type of thing is common, but I wonder if it was me. I feel like something like that happened to me right around that point. I was wearing headphones, and I remember someone apologizing to me as they passed. So if it was me, I know you didn't mean it! What corral did you start in, and do you have any memory of what the person was wearing?

And I 100% agree with your last paragraph. As much as I would love to actually run a whole half marathon, the likelihood of that is very low at this point. But I'm committed to continuing to work at it and building up my endurance, so who knows what I may get to someday. :)

One scary thing I noticed during the race was in the dark backstage area in Studios... I think near the car thing? The backstage area before we came back into the lights. A girl totally faceplanted... it was very scary. She seemed quite injured, I'm not sure if she hit her face because she didn't have time to put her arms out or if she hurt her arms. I saw someone in the after party with their elbow wrapped up in a huge ice wrap... I wondered if that was her, because my mom broke her elbow in exactly the same way (faceplanted after tripping on a water sprinkler).

RunDisney has to do something with the distance and time. Just think of the problems in the future it can create. How many thousands of people could claim the time and be in the A and B corrals.

How about non Disney events. I could use my time from the half of a half and now qualify for Boston, New York, Chicago. Let's go overseas too.
