The register should do it on its own. Most places there will be an activation listed on the receipt. If worried go to disneygiftcard.Com and enter the info and it will tell you the dollar amount in it

The kid at Target asked me if he was supposed to do something and I was like, I have no idea. So my DH started questioning me, getting worried, after we had left the store. We leave Thursday and we drove an hour just to go to a Target so he was thinking we would have to go all the way back, lol. I told him don't panic, I'll ask on the Dis boards and someone WILL know, lol. :)

I ran a 8.0 training run on Saturday. I started out fine miles 1-4, in the low 14:00's, but by miles 5-6 I was at a 15:00 and 16:03 mile. :(So I kicked it up and did mile 7 at 15:23 and mile 8 at 14:44. Good to know I can push myself when I have to! Then I walked a mile to recover. My Darn Tough socks were awesome - my feet didn't sweat at all (TMI?)! And I fueled with Honey Stinger Waffles and watered down lemon lime PowerAde and both worked great for me. No stomach issues with the PowerAde. I think I may need to eat the 1/2 Waffle a little sooner than I did. I had 1/2 before I started, then another 1/2 at mile 3, then another 1/2 at mile 6. I may change it up to miles 2,4,6, and so on.

I have a question, sorry I did a search and couldn't find the answer. My training isn't going so well, and I'm considering not running the race and just going to the finish line party. A friend of mine is going down with me, and he has already bought his ticket to the finish line party. My question is, will I be able to enter EPCOT at 7:00? What type of ticket will I, as a registered runner, get? Will it be in my race packet? Will it allow me to enter at 7:00 the same as someone who bought a hard ticket for the event? I've never done this, and I just want to be sure I have my bases covered. Thanks.

First of all...don't give up on the race yet. You still have a few weeks!

Secondly, I believe your race bib will grant you entry to the party (so even if you decide not to run, you still need to go to the expo to get the bib). I think you could enter at 7, yes.

So the race bib acts as my ticket? Will I need to wear it all night just show it to get into the park?

Just to get in. Actually now that I think about it more, there was a wristband in the bib packet that we had to wear to get in, so assuming they keep that this year, you'd need the wristband. It's something like that.

Thanks for your help. I called rundisney and the woman I talked to wasn't very helpful. She told me I could get in, but she wasn't confident in her answers and didn't know exactly how it works. I don't want to show up at EPCOT and not get in.

Just checking in and catching up... I was having trouble getting motivated to do my runs, but have been consistantly doing them as scheduled (another Galloway user)... that is until I fell 12 days ago. I was rushing into the shower after a good workout and slipped. It was an ugly fall, my lower back and tailbone taking the brunt of the fall right on the metal track for the glass doors. It was painful, but I was more concerned about how this could interfer with my training. I seemed to be 'okay' but felt a little outta whack, so I saw my chiropractor. He reconfirmed I needed an adjustment, but thought I'd be okay to run but he wanted to see me back after one of my sort runs. I did so as planned, and everything looked great and I was having no issues. Fast forward to Saturdays run, 9.5 miles. The first 8 miles felt great, life was good... Then it hit me, I suddenly couldn't put any weight on my right foot. And I was 2 miles from my car. It was the foot I slipped on, I didnt think there was any real issue with it, it was a little tender when I fell but nothing serious. The weird thing is, I could jog but not walk on it... I tenderly jogged back to my car and when I finally sat down, I realized the spot in my lower back thatI fell on is unbearbly painful. So here I am 36 hours later, stressed and worried what this means for my training and the upcoming event. Right now I'm taking it easy until I my doctor appt tomorrow morning. Praying for good news and a quick recovery.

Guys...I went out for an 8 mile run today. At mile 4.5 it started downpouring. Luckily, I went right instead of left out of my apartment today so I was only about 2.5 miles from home. I started to head back. About a mile down the road I saw a water spout. (I live 2 blocks from Lake Erie and was running the block directly along the water). I saw it above the trees dead ahead of me. It came onto land. And it was 2 blocks ahead of me!! Aaah.

Tornados are my biggest fear and I was essentially just 2 blocks from one. Never ran that fast in my life.

Yikes!! That's scary. Glad you are okay. And I hate running in a downpour. :(

So my husband and I ran 9.5 today according to the Galloway plan and it was hard. (Ok, it was mostly hard for me and frustrating to be stuck with me for my husband.) About 6 miles in I just felt done. I kept trying to push, but was doing more walking than running. I severely needed water and couldn't get myself motivated for all my run intervals. Finally found a drinking fountain to refill my Nathan handheld, but then I had shooting pain between my ankles and calves. My husband actually turned around as he was ahead of me and said the look on my face was horrible and he offered to run up and get the car. I told him no that it's never happened before and I wanted to at least finish. (This was maybe around 7.5) The pain didn't reoccur and I was able to get in some more run intervals doing 30 minute runs vs. the normal 1:30. I know I REALLY need new shoes so I'm going to go get fitted on Monday. But I'm worried about hydration. Does anyone run with a hydration pack, and if so what do you have? Or should I do two handhelds? I wear sparkle skirts so something I could stick in that like the Fred water bottle?

And since 9.5 was so hard should I switch my upcoming long runs from 11, 12 and 14 to 10, 11 and 12 prior to the W&D?

I think you'd be fine if you want to modify you upcoming long runs, but don't let a bad 9.5 miler throw you off too much. Some runs are just bad. I know I've had runs like that and think how horrible it was and then the next long run seems so much easier. Could you lay out a route that lets you end it at 10 but has an option to add on another mile if you are feeling okay? Either way if you only take your long run up to 12 instead of 14, you'll be fine.

I just wanted to echo Shannon (Ariel484) and say don't give up on the race yet. I'm not sure what struggles you are having, but are you sure you can't get back on track and still make the race?

OUCH!! That sounds very painful. I hope your doctor can help you and that you have time to make a quick and full recovery before the race.

We ran an 8-miler this past Saturday and had a great run. The temp was just 51 degrees when we started at 6 AM. Woohoo!! I felt so much better running in the cool temperature. We averaged around 10:45 for the 8 miles which made me really happy.

Took this week off post-Disneyland to let my legs rest a bit (I totally overdid it on park time this trip ... lesson learned!)

So, tomorrow I'm off to get fitted for new shoes and then I'll begin the process of breaking them in by also ramping up my mileage again before W&D. Not really focusing on a time for that race, since my training going forward is going to be mostly Dopey oriented with added mileage and back-to-backs.

My plan was to get fitted for new shoes today and have my first true post-Disneyland run, but real life has a real knack for getting in the way and messing with plans. Ugh.

So, tomorrow it is.

paulsboy Don't give up yet! How quickly could you walk it if you needed to? If you're registered for the race, perhaps walk or run/ walk and get som echaracter photos before the party?

Keels, I'm in the same boat after Disneyland. Overdid it after the 10K and my time was WAY slower on the half. I was focussed on having fun, but still surprised that I dropped my time so much. It was a great eye opener for my trip planning for F&W. Having problems getting motivated since the return home, but back to training in the morning!

I'm curious about your Dopey training plan...specifically the back to back aspect of it. I initially have been training for it for about 5 months already by doing two half marathon treadmill runs per weekend - EVERY WEEKEND...ouch! Anyway, my plan now is to do what Galloway suggests - and that is to mostly walk the half marathon to save yourself for the full. Are you thinking of trying to run both? So I changed and am now doing regular marathon training with the expectation of walking the half anyway.

Thank you for the advice everyone! (My quotes disappeared on me, sorry!) I talked with my husband about it and he said he thinks we should just stick to the plan because he knows the plans have worked for me for past races. I'm going to mention mapping out a route were we could loop around for another mile or cut it at 10 if necessary. We'll be doing a similar route to this past Saturday so it should be doable for us.

Today I got fitted for new shoes! It was chaotic with my two little ones there, but our only running store is two blocks from my son's school and they're both across town from us so after school it was. The lady who fitted me said I had great shoes, but they were too small! She moved me up a size and a half! (I was expecting at least a half size up because I think I'm in denial my feet have changed since having kids!) I wasn't expecting that big of a jump. They didn't have my current shoe in the new size so she brought me three to try on. I vetoed some Brooks right away as they rubbed the sore spots from Sat so I figured that problem would continue with them. Then I debated between some Mizunos and Altras and ended up choosing the Altras with the wider toe box. (I have 30 days if I go run in them and don't think they work to exchange them.) I'm so excited to go run now tomorrow morning! I'm really hoping the new shoes will eliminate some of the sore feet issues. The motivation issues I'll just have to work on some positive self talk, and ignoring my show off husband! :rotfl:

My goal is to run through the first three races the best I can, and then run/walk the full. That said - I've done no run longer than 4 miles on a treadmill. Anything over 4 miles has been outside, regardless of the weather.

Also, I no longer do intervals per the Galloway method. I've found that they make me a more lazy runner (and, that's just for me personally!) and instead, I'm working to be able to run through the distance itself with walking stops for hydration and photos.

This is the plan I created and that I've been (for the most part!) following. It's my version of Higdon's training plan. I've actually changed it up to where my back-to-backs of long runs are either Tuesday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Thursday. Since I don't work, I have my weekdays free to do long runs and I have my weekends free for shorter runs and time with my husband and friends. Starting in December, I'll transition my long runs back to Saturday-Sunday to mimic the Dopey scenario so my body and mind can prepare and adjust to the early mornings and run situation.

Thank you for posting this and the link. I am SO sad. I knew it was coming but I really didn't think they would end it forever as they appear to be doing.

To me, with the verbiage, it sounds like they couldn't (or don't want to) come to an agreement with the Osborne Family to renew the contract. The "Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights" may be closing, but that doesn't mean that the lights won't pop up someplace else on property under a new, more Disney-fied name. They are extremely popular and do help put folks in the holiday mood.

Can someone answer a Disney gift card question. I bought 6 $50 cards at target with my red card to save 5%. Were they supposed to activate them for me? My cashier was on his first day and I have never bought them before? What do I need to do now?

I second the going online to the Disney gift card site. You can also consolidate all the $50 gift cards you bought (up to $1,000) onto one card. so you don't wind up trying to remember which card has a balance and what it is.

Thanks! I did go on there and they were all active. They are actually to give to our 3 grown daughters as a surprise, for spending money on our family vacation in 2 days! :)
