Will TarzansKat meet Captain Jack? ~A Pirate's Life for 3 Pre-Trippie~ We're back!

It's time for a tribute, folks. It's time to pay homage to that around which our Disney vacations really revolve. It's time to stop pretending that the only reason we're there is to see Mickey or make the kids happy or relax.

It's time to 'fess up!

Admit it, you know you do it, too. You plan your vacation around FOOD! :rotfl:

How can you take a trip to the World and not plan about/dream about what foods you're going to eat? In this chapter, we're going to pay homage to the foods we've chosen, the foods we don't even know we'll have, and the memories associated with said foods.

So let's recap the dining a little, shall we?

Sep 14- Casey's
Sep 15- Everything Pop Dining Lunch, Coral Reef Dinner
Sep 16- Chef Mickey's Late Breakfast, Everything Pop Early Dinner
Sep 17- Brown Derby Lunch, Villain Candy Apple, CS Dinner
Sep 18- Flame Tree BBQ Lunch, Boma Dinner, Goofy's Candy Co Snack
Sep 19- Kona Cafe Breakfast, Dole Whip Snack, CS Dinner
Sep 20- Crystal Palace Lunch, Lapu Lapu Fest, CS Dinner
Sep 21- Leaving Day

And to give DH, love of my life, dark knight extraordinaire his due, we will begin with the Slushy Coke. :worship:

When did the love of the slushy coke begin? For this, we will travel back through time, to DH's first few times in the World. I can't pinpoint the exact first time DH revelled in all that is slushy coke, but it was in one of the parks. And once we found them, we had to find them all! It became our sacred mission to search out the slushy coke and enjoy its yummy, cool, refreshing taste. We searched in Epcot, where they can sometimes be found by Test Track. And in MGM, where they've been all over the place. And then, the first time we stayed at the Pop. Ah, was DH in heaven then. A slushy coke every day? For breakfast, and upon returning from the parks at night! DH was in :cloud9: . Staying anywhere but Pop became taboo. Why would we even consider staying somewhere that didn't have the slushy coke machine in the food court (NODoleWhipforTK).

What other loves do we foodies have? Well, I'll tell you.

Last year, at the Coral Reef I had, I believe one of my favorite meals ever. And I've had some pretty good meals in the World, but this ranked right up there. My main dish was the Pumpkin Risotto, and it was out of this world good. Right up my alley. My DM ordered it and said it was the winner dish of the evening, and it was. I topped it off with their Key Lime Tart, and I was in heaven. It was a perfect combo, and very, very good. At that point in the evening we were amused with how bad our waitress was (read condescending and rude and yet surprisingly not smart either) that we just didn't care and were enjoying our food.

Keeping it inside Epcot, we will now discuss what used to be my favorite caramel apple ever. And that, my friends, was in Germany. It used to be such that I required one of these every single trip. I will even go so far as to admit that I would lick the additional caramel off the wrapper they use to hold the apple. ;) And yes, my mother does have that photo. Sadly, last year, the German caramel apple suffered a tragic blow.

They changed the caramel! :scared1: Now I don't mind normal caramel on my junky apple from the Villian Candy Shop, it belongs there. But in previous years, in Germany the caramel was different. It was lighter in color, and had a much more refined taste.:thumbsup2 I know, I know...I'm starting to sound like ZZUB. But if there's cause to mourn the pound cake, there's cause to mourn this apple. It was my favorite, and last year they changed it. And made it the same run of the mill caramel you could get everywhere else in the parks. Blech. I did eat it, and purchased one for DS which he enjoyed thoroughly, but it was a blow, people. I mourn the loss of my apple, and will not be getting one there this year. :::sigh::: Perhaps a Dole Whip would soften the blow...

Ah, the Dole Whip. I extol its virtue, and yet, have only had it once. And that was before I discovered the DIS. Before I knew how highly it was praised. See, even then I had good taste. ;) We opted for the Dole Whip float, and I am really looking forward to getting it on this trip. In one word, it was refreshing. I'm hoping if I'm lucky, I can sneak in different varities of Dole Whip! :thumbsup2

Now, at the Brown Derby, I love the Cobb Salad. Back when my DM and I used to take solo trips, this is my favorite food memory with her. Depending on whether it was lunch or dinner, we would either split it or have our own. And I loved stopping to eat with her in the Brown Derby. It was a cool, air-conditioned break from the parks, and conveniently close to the Animation Courtyard which was like my mothership growing up. I can distinctly remember one trip with just me and her, the waiter taking our picture at one of the tables for two on the upper tier. Back when they used to have a piano player. Before 9/11 and severe budget cuts. Does anyone else remember the singers in Alfredo's? Later, when we brought DH with us, he actually won a free dessert by guessing one of the songs the piano player was playing, it was a fun game that night. We used to go in January when we were in college since we had a long break and Disney was so slooooooow then. Talk about walking onto everything. I'd love to do that again. So this trip, when I eat that Cobb, I will think of mom.

And while we're paying homage to mom, let's pay some homage to nana as well. Let's jump for a second to France. See, we ladies have a tradition. We've taken some trips just the three of us, and our tradition is always to head to Epcot, usually through the International Gateway, pop on over to France and get three glasses of champagne. We then toast ourselves, and our vacation, and sip our champagne and walk through the World Showcase. I don't know if I'll do that on this trip. I won't have Mom and Nana with me and DH isn't really a champagne drinker. I think DH and I may have to come up with a new drink tradition that's just for us. I would say a margarita in Mexico, but I do that with my father-in-law and somehow it just wouldn't feel right without him. I'll probably have it with my meal when we eat CS in Mexico, but it can't be the inaguaral drink. Any suggestions?

And since we're hopping all over my itinerary, let's jump back again. When I'm hungry later at MGM, I will be partaking of a junky apple at the Villian Candy Shop. I don't know what kind. Whatever I fancy. I'm sure you'll hear all about it from me in my trip report, and how lovely it was. I will skip CS dinner just to be able to eat this delectable treat. Who needs dinner when there are so many wonderful desserts?

Speaking of wonderful desserts, I'll be looking forward to making my own treat at Goofy's Candy Company, and letting DS pick his own. I think this is going to be one of the fun highlights of our trip, and I can't wait.

I must pay homage to the Casey's hot dog. I have had this wonderful meal so many times I can't count them. I have so many memories here, that it would take a whole chapter and then some to describe all the different times I've eaten a Casey's hot dog, and with who, and what the circumstances were. I'll give you one memory that's more recent to satisfy your curiousity. It was DS' first trip to the World and he was 8-9 months old. I had walked outside of Casey's briefly, and sort of ran into that really nice lady who will sing with the piano player sometimes. Do you all know who I mean? She's a really fun costumed character. Well, she spotted me, and spotted DS, and picked him up and started singing, "Baby face...you've got the cutest little baby face..." and then told me how cute he was, just like her grandchildren, and handed him back to me. No one from my family was with me, they were inside. I have no pictures, no video, nothing but my memory. Just me and my DS on his very first trip to the World, and his cute little baby face. :)

And as we near the end of the road, I'll finally get to taste that delectable goodness that is Tonga Toast, forever changing the TK world. I think that deserves some    And see, I've deliberately planned it for the end of the trip so in addition to meeting Tink, I'll have something to look forward to!:thumbsup2

I'm part Italian, and so many memories I have are in some way tied up with food. The same for DH. Around specific holidays, we cook the same dishes. Things our grandparents made, our parents made, what our traditions are. And when we go to Disney World it's no different. We relive the same food traditions, and if we're brave, we try new things. Sometimes we happen on something without even realizing it, other times, it's a tried and true favorite. In this way, I look forward to my food memories, new and old, that we'll have from this trip.

And in truly fitting style, DS just woke up from his nap and asked to watch Ratatouille.

Boy...you'd think we were related or something? :rotfl2:

So, I guess it's off to watch Ratatouille and remember

"I don't LIKE food, I LOVE it. If I don't LOVE it, I don't SWALLOW."

That stroll down food memory lane makes "the food" way more than food. What an adorable event at Casey's. It's even more special that it was just the two of you. :goodvibes

It was so great. I couldn't believe it when she took him and started singing. And he was just smiling, and completely in awe of her. It was adorable. What a great memory. I have so many more at Casey's, but that seemed most fitting. :thumbsup2

In the hopes that your Jedi mind trick can save my stomach unlike the one that lost poor Yoda. Alas, I knew him well. :lmao:

I hope it worked.

I, too, had a Beta in college (Weird thing in common #862. Did you got to college in Boston by any chance?).

My Beta, whose name I can't remember also died suddenly. (#862b)

However, it was I who accidentally ended his life early when changing his water one day. It was winter and it completely escaped my mind how cold the cold water coming out of the tap would be. I took him out of his bowl, dropped him into his temporary bowl and he promptly went belly-up. The frigid water seemed to be too much for his little fishy heart.

I felt horrible for days. He has never been replaced. I feel I'm in inadequate fish-keeper.

He actually told me how much he liked my Elizabeth costume. Bless you for flirting with me in front of my husband since you've got to be at least 5-10 years younger than I am.:lmao:

The BF responds to these situations as follows:

BF: Um, did you have to flirt with him?
ME (dumbfounded): Wha?
BF: I mean really. Could you have flirted any more?
ME (flatly): I asked for a napkin.
BF: Mhmm.
ME: HE was trying to flirt with ME. I said thank you for the napkin.
BF: Likely story.
ME: Oh, I'm sorry. This is sojust like the time our waitress brought you that big bowl of strawberries with the whipped cream on top. You know, that thing that wasn't even on the menu. And how she told you how much she loved whipped cream while caressing your arm and how isn't it funny that you both love whipped cream. And told you to make sure you enjoy every single one. Then winked at you and and said that she'd be back to check on you.
BF: I don't know what you're talking about.
ME: 'Course not.

True story. That's the closest Tinkerbellarella has come to decking a waitress in a restaurant. After the look of death she received, we are seated in someone else's section every time we visit said restaurant. She steers clear. Smart gal.

Otherwise known as the leaving day.

Ugh. The Darth Vadar music is playing in my head.

And maybe, just maybe, if Tink and I were successful, I got to meet Captain Jack.

What's this "IF" carp?

...new friends we've finally met....

Admit it, you know you do it, too. You plan your vacation around FOOD!

::yes::

it can't be the inaguaral drink. Any suggestions?

What about those orange Grand Marnier slushy things in France? I don't know how they taste but they look devine.

Aw. What a sweet and special memory for you to have.

And see, I've deliberately planned it for the end of the trip so in addition to meeting Tink, I'll have something to look forward to!:thumbsup2

I'll gladly take the back seat to Tonga Toast. Tonga! Tonga! Tonga!

I'm part Italian, and so many memories I have are in some way tied up with food. The same for DH. Around specific holidays, we cook the same dishes. Things our grandparents made, our parents made, what our traditions are.

Ahhh yes. Wandis. Pizzaghena. Six different kinds of prosciutto.

I'm caught up now. Still tired for the weekend. But happy to have read all this. I was looking forward to it.

I hope it worked.

I, too, had a Beta in college (Weird thing in common #862. Did you got to college in Boston by any chance?).

My Beta, whose name I can't remember also died suddenly. (#862b)

I felt horrible for days. He has never been replaced. I feel I'm in inadequate fish-keeper.

Alright, I confess. Yoda's untimely end was my fault. :confused3

I didn't want to relive it, but there it is. Since you killed your fish, I guess I can talk about how I inadvertantly through no fault of my own did mine in. I washed the bowl out. With soap. They never told me at the pet store that you're not supposed to do that. Poor Yoda. He never saw it coming. I bought Poland Spring water for that fish to swim in! He was a happy little camper...until I slowly poisoned him to death.

That was also why, when they offered us Anakin, I thought, what are they nuts? You're going to give me another fish? Perhaps you could tell me how to properly care for him this time? And you know, that little bugger lasted a looooooong time.

Ahhhhh....the power of the dark side.

True story. That's the closest Tinkerbellarella has come to decking a waitress in a restaurant. After the look of death she received, we are seated in someone else's section every time we visit said restaurant. She steers clear. Smart gal.

Alright, not so much now, but in college, DH was very flirty. Very, very flirty. And just thought he was being friendly. Boy, did it take me a long time to get him to realize that some girls took him seriously. Oy! :scared1: But I joke with my sisters like that...um, yeah, but they're related to you, they know it's not a come on! :lmao:

What about those orange Grand Marnier slushy things in France? I don't know how they taste but they look devine.
Alright, so last night I told DH we need a drink for just him and me. Which really means for him. Because quite frankly, even though I had eaten dinner, and drank water with it, I had two glasses of red wine....really, really good yummy wine that I actually bought for myself and I never spend money on good wine for myself wine...and I was plastered. I mean, not walking well, laughing at nothing, scarfing down huge quantities of bread trying to soak up the alcohol plastered.

Anyhoo :rolleyes1

I think there's some kind of Peach Tea Schnapps type thing at one of the stands? Can someone help me out here? The flavored tea thing is right up DH's alley, he loves flavored teas, and a little kick with alcohol, we can share it, and we'll be good to go. I'm thinking the inaguaral drink is more about DH, and what he'd like, since I usually oblige whoever I'm with, with the ladies it's champagne, DFIL a margarita, DH some kind of SLUSHY tea drink. ;)

This whole plastered thing also leads me to wonderfu whether or not my Lapu Lapu Fest will be not so much Lapu Lapu but virgin colada! :rotfl2:

Six different kinds of prosciutto.
Did I ever mention that for the better part of my life my parents owned an Italian Deli/Gourmet Foods/Gift type store? I used to have deli meat sliced fresh, but onto a nice roll from the Italian bakery and consume on the spot. To this day I cannot set foot in a Subway or Blimpies. Blech. I'm a deli snob. :lmao:

I'm caught up now. Still tired for the weekend. But happy to have read all this. I was looking forward to it.
Glad to hear you had fun. It sounds like a good time, from what I read on your pre-trip, too.

Ah, debate. Debating Libra. Debating Libra driving herself crazy. Debating Libra driving herself crazy looking for help from fellow crazy DISboard members in the hopes that together we can solve the unsolvable problems, right the wrongs, etc, etc, ad nauseum, long run on sentence.

Welcome. Welcome to my mind. Hi. :wave2:

Remember me? It's a little nutty in here. Come on in, sit down next to my long-lost sister Tink and pull up a chair. There are some matters at hand that need to be discussed, and preferabbly not by me. By people who are not me, who can look at my situation and say here, this is what you should do. Allow yourself to partake in the planning of myself.

Remember that beautiful chapter about the Pop Century hotel and all the reasons why we should stay there? Well, that still holds. Now, I'm not going to lie and pretend like I'm not still trying to figure out a way to be able to afford a deluxe, because I am. If I came into a bit of money, I could see no better way to spend it (NOstudentloan) than on my lovely pirate's life for three. That being said, I have resigned myself to Pop without really having resigned myself because that's such a negative word. We love Pop. I love Pop, DH loves Pop, and DS loves Pop. It's been our Disney home. Truly, I will be happy to stay there again.

Except for one eensy weensy tiny little detail that we have all glossed over and forgotton about and sort of pushed aside.

The small child sleeps like a fish out of water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared1:

Bloody pirate! :rotfl2:

So I've been researching my options. On Amazon.com, I found this Aerobed for Kids.

Here, have a look!

It's really nice because it has raised sides, holds up to 150 lbs so I know we'd get plenty of use out of it as DS grows, and the consumer reviews are excellent. The only problem is, and I've posted this on the family board and the POP FAQ thread, no one has tried to use one of these in a Pop room. Some people have tried to use a ready bed, which is an inflatable kid type bed, but those are really for older kids, and I can see DS falling right off of it.

This Aerobed would be a great solution, if only I could be sure it would fit in the gosh darn room.

And this, is really important to me. As much as I want to save money, and be cheap, and pay off the student loan faster, I also want to enjoy my vacation. And let me tell you, TK is no happy without a fair amount of sleep. I think I told you all about that bout with mono in high school. 'Nuff said. ;) And there are other hotels where I can guarantee that DS would be on his own.

Like Port Orleans Riverside, where they have trundle beds. Now, I'm not fond at all of the theming of Alligator Bayou, but I know this is an option.

Like the Wilderness Lodge, where they have bunk beds. I'm pretty sure we could get DS on the bottom bunk with a bed rail and be fine.

Like the Beach Club or the Poly, where they have a day bed that I can totally stick the little nut in.

And guess what, folks? All these other hotels are available for free dining right now. But they cost more money. Money I am trying really, really hard not to spend. I want to be good, I do! I want to stay where they have the slushy coke machine, and Lady and the Tramp, and Mr. & Mrs. Tato!

Somebody please tell me this Aerobed for Kids will fit in a Pop room!

Help!

HELP!

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Do you feel better now that you've come clean? ;)

Your girl Tink has got your back. It's the Peach Oolong Tea Schnapps Slush from the Joy of Tea stand in China.

Did I ever mention that for the better part of my life my parents owned an Italian Deli/Gourmet Foods/Gift type store? I used to have deli meat sliced fresh, but onto a nice roll from the Italian bakery and consume on the spot.

I have deli-envy. I love me some parma prosciutto on fresh bread.

Do you feel better now that you've come clean? ;)

Oddly, yes. :lmao:

Thanks! I'm not a big fan of peach, but this is a perfect drink for DH. And say it with me, it's SLUSHY! :lmao:

Sadly, they had to close this year. Not enough foot traffic, way too much overhead. They now each do their respective businesses: catering, fruit/gourmet baskets out of the home. It's hard, but so much better. I do miss the store, it was so part of my childhood. Good times. :goodvibes

I think it will fit somewhere....right? Not exactly the kind of statement you are looking for but it will fit. You will make it fit, I am sure of it and in the mornings you can put it on top of one of the beds to get out of the way or lean it against a wall. It will fit.

Stay away from the chaise lounge. That one's mine.
:lmao:

This Aerobid for Kids will fit in a Pop room!

There. I told you. I have no idea if that is a false statement. But you didn't really specify. ;)

You have this knack for telling me exactly what I want to hear...

we're of the same mind, you and I, I and you...us. ;)

Bless you! Bless you both for responding so quickly. Here I am, ready to throw down at least $1000 more on a trip, when I could easily spend $63, and am agonizing over spending $63. :lmao: Go figure. Ah, my little idiosyncrasies. You know you love me! ;)

It's okay, I know I do the same exact thing! :thumbsup2 We received our tax stimulas refunds today and I am itching to upgrade my WDW ressies! :goodvibes

I've just tried to review some pictures. I mean, if you can fit a pack and play in these rooms, this bed must fit. I'm sure even though you can't move the beds, you can still move that table/chairs around if need be. Right? Right. ;)

Right! Did you check out the pictures on trip advisor??

I looked at Allears.net. What pics are you referring to?

Go to tripadvisor.com, search Pop Century and then click on the search results, it will give you traveler reviews plus there are pictures on the right hand side of the website. They are traveler photos. I love looking at them for all of the resorts!

a passing fancy?

No, a resolute and unyielding need.

....well....

I did it. Do you think I've gone too far? I did it. Guilty as charged. :rolleyes1
Alright, now that we've gotten out our references to POTC and DMB, it's time to talk about the WL. And the nice padded cell that I'll shortly be residing in.

Because, this morning, folks. I did it. I jumped on the bandwagon. For the first time in my life, I became...a resort switcher. :::gasp:::

I know, I know. After the homage to the Pop, extoling its virtues, and multiples praises to the shopping, the food court, the slushy coke machine, this morning I abandoned my love. For a deeper, greater love.

Has anyone seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Anyone remember how the man is the head of the household but the woman is the neck. And the neck can turn the head whichever way she wants it to go? :lmao: Boy I'm just full of quotes this morning. It must be my giddy state. I am actually giddy!

I booked the Wilderness Lodge!

I didn't even make our vacation shorter to offset the cost! Buh-bye tax stimulus check. Stimulate the economy at Disney because that's where you're going. To my newly booked, I am oh so excited about, free dining package for 7 nights and eight days at the Wilderness Lodge. I have the exact same package as before, same confirmation number and everything.

But allow me to backtrack and set the scene. Before you all hit unsubscribe for having taken this crazy journey with me.

For the past several weeks, since free dining has been released I have been cruising around the wdw website looking at various hotels. Relishing in my Pop reservation but still looking. And I love the Wilderness Lodge. I love the feel of it, and the fact that the rooms have been renovated, that there are queen size beds, a boat to the Magic Kingdom, a cool pool with a slide...I could go on and on.

But so far, no dice. All they had available was courtyard view or club level and although I am jonesing for an upgrade I want standard view. I rationalize I can handle standard view. It's more, but it's soooooooooo worth it, right? Right.

Well guess what? This morning, before my work out, I pop online to wdw and guess what's available? Wilderness Lodge, standard view. I  and then I :woohoo: and then I :scared: . DH is barely awake at this point...something that can work to my advantage. Summoning all my inner CharlestonPrincess, I begin with "Honey?"

"Mmmhmmm...."

"Guess what just came available?" Trying to contain excitement.

"Airfare?"

"No, guess."

"Party tickets." Poor man doesn't realized those were released May 1st. Ah, the happy and clueless. How he loves to let me plan.

"No, babe....the Wilderness Lodge...a standard view room."

"Uh huh."

"Honey, I'm serious...I really want to book this. Can you wake up so we can talk about it?"

So finally, he wakes up, and after negotiating ;) (I can't discuss the terms) DH gives the go ahead.

The OK! The go ahead to spend more money than necessary. The, hey, babe, you're worth it. The you can book the fancy room in the deluxe hotel with the boat to the Magic Kingdom.

Can I even describe how much I am in love with my husband right now? Not, that I wasn't before, but oh I am soooooo happy.

That calls for some :dance3:

And some

And some :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2: :cool1: :thumbsup2

So later today, we'll be releasing some new chapters. Because with a location change comes itinerary changes. Dining shall remain the same, but some days need to be sort of arranged differently. And now TK will have a new quest. To find every fleshmeganah Slushy Coke machine in each park. Because the man gave up the Slushy Coke refillable mug for me. Therefore, it is my duty to find each and every slushy coke opportunity I can, in some way acknowledging the sacrifice. There go my snack credits. :lmao:

Because I did it!

I BOOKED THE WILDERNESS LODGE! :goodvibes

Yay for Wilderness Lodge!!!

I haven't stayed there, but it looks incredible!

I'm jealous!

Thank you so much for the positive response! And for still reading my trip report! :lmao: I feel like an insane woman, but I can't begin to describe how much happier I am about this vacation right now. Instead of tryinig to figure out how to deal with my hotel room, I am looking forward to it. We have been doing budget trips for so long, staying here is going to be such a treat. I can't wait!:goodvibes

I booked the Wilderness Lodge!

You realize what's happening, don't you?

Might I remind you that my trip also began with a different resort. The Wilderness Lodge to be exact. After the exact same issue with the view not being available.

Then came free dining. And an upgrade for me. To the Poly.

You know what this means, don't you?

Either you're slowly and more convoluted-ly following in your long lost sister's footsteps or my Jedi Mind Trick is working and soon the TK's will be joining Tink at the Poly.

JK. Congrats on the move. And welcome to the Deluxe Snob Club. Where we only have love for the Deluxe (and POP, because really, who doesn't love them some POP (sans cheerleaders/Pop Warner football))

Buh-bye tax stimulus check.

:wave2:

So finally, he wakes up, and after negotiating ;) (I can't discuss the terms) DH gives the go ahead.

FANTASTIC use of feminine wiles and persuasion. You are the pride of devious women such as myself.

And now TK will have a new quest. To find every fleshmeganah Slushy Coke machine in each park. Because the man gave up the Slushy Coke refillable mug for me.

I have this feeling, call them midichlorians if you will, that tells me that perhaps DH doesn't even realize this yet. Likely more "persuasion" may be necessary.
