Will Soarin Close At All In 2015?

Thought I would re-visit this topic upon hearing that Pirates may be down for a while. If a new Soarin theater is coming, what are the chances that both Pirates and Soarin would be down at the same time for a period of time? That may be a deal breaker for some folks.

If a third theatre is built (yeah, I know it's likely but it still is not official AFAIK), then I have trouble believing that Soarin' would be completely down for any appreciable length of time. But as always, who knows?

Is it "Froway" or "Norzen"? ;)

I considered both and chose the first. :) I thought I was clever until I found some obscure site I hadn't heard of also used the term.

Soarin' really needs to go IMAX 3D, so I hope that's what they're doing!

So you don't think it would closed for months like Test Track was during its refurb?

Test Track has only one track. Soarin' has two theaters as you know, and it's sure looking like it'll get a third. First, I don't see how adding the third would impact the existing two and take them offline for much time (if at all). And why would they need to take both existing offline, unless there are some common components that both theaters rely upon that can't be easily modified during the (rumored) refurb. I suppose it's possible, but I'll say it again--who knows? We're all just spitballing here. ;)

Let's go with they are linked like a seesaw. When one is up the other is down :-P

Would new screens in the current theaters be included in this (rumored) upgrade?

Maybe, maybe not. This is all rumor, right?

If you are asking because of the oft-mention reports of specks and splotches on the screens, Robo was just there and started a thread on that issue where he reported it is much improved.

New screens aren't necessarily a part of the "upgrade". Perhaps all they need are a good cleaning. The real upgrade is the conversion from film to digital projectors.

The specks and splotches that people see on the screen are almost always caused by dirt in the projector mechanism. Conversion to digital projectors will alleviate, but not eliminate, this issue.

Soarin' at DCA is currently in refurb from 1/6/2015 to 5/14/2015 if that is any indication of how long it may take at WDW:confused3

One reason the 2 existing theaters MIGHT have to close during construction of the third is when they tie in the queue and load area to the new theater to the existing queue. Possibly they could erect construction walls and funnel the existing queues into fewer lines for awhile, but I don't remember a lot of space. It will be interesting to see how things develop.

Yep. Or maybe hydraulics are shared between the two theaters, or maybe electrical, or whatever. We find out when we find out, and everything else is mostly-useless conjecture.
