Will probably have to cancel our 1st Food & Wine trip

I just re-read the post before my last response, and noticed it mentioned that this was our 1st grandchild. That is not the case. Our son & his wife have 2 other children. So it's not just the birth we would hate to miss, but also we feel we should be here to help them out with the other 2 children, especially during the time that Mom & Dad will be at the hospital.

That's the struggle I'm having. I want to be in both places......here and at WDW for F&W and what had been planned as some relaxation time.

No big deal in the scheme of things.
I understand and don't quibble with that idea in any way. And that's how I view a WDW trip. Not all that important either in the scheme of things. There's no right or wrong here. Just differing opinions. It's all good!

I agree with the poster that said to wait until your 31 day mark is approaching before making a final decision.

Your DS and DDIL will have a much better handle on the last 2 months of the pregnancy by then, and may have more up-to-date info on the C-section date.

And who knows? Baby may decide that he is ready to meet everyone and decide to come a couple of weeks early!

Whatever you decide, congratulations on the newest member of your family. Just think, soon you will be making plans on taking him to WDW for the first time!

I know we're all Disney freaks here on this board, but on my scales... birth of a grandchild vs F&W... well I gotta give precedence to the birth of a new member of the family. F&W will be around for years, but the little one is only born once.

I couldn't agree any more with the quote above. Also, not meant to sound preachy, and only my opinion, the birth of a grandchild, whether the first, 10th or 20th, is so very special and unique. I, personally, would not have a very good vacation knowing a little one, with my blood, is arriving, and I wouldn't be there to be a part of it. There is always next year (or the year after, or the year after that) to vacation during F&W!

Just my two cents. Congratulations and good luck for whatever you choose.

A decision has been made......we're canceling. I have already canceled the AKV part of the trip, but still have the BCV portion. I know I need to cancel that soon, but that one is hard to do. (BCV studio during 1st week of Food & Wine!!) I need to do it soon though. Just thought I would post our final decision. Thanks for listening.

I just read your thread and I'm glad you cancelled. All I kept thinking as I read was as the DDIL it would make me sad to NOT have my MIL and FIL there. That being said we are a close family and although we do not always agree on things they are my girls grandparents!!! Now I also have to add there is NOWHERE I would rather be than WDW!!!!! Especially for alone time with DH..... BUT I think you made a good decision....is it possible to still keep the BCV portion and fly - even 24 hrs in the world is better than nothing....

Nevermind, that changes everything. Being there for the other older siblings is the way to go. Maybe you could split time with your DDIL's parents and have some time at the hospital as well. Best wishes to you all.

What is your use year? Can you bank the points for next year? I would plan a trip for next fall as soon as your window opens.

Unfortunately, these points can't be banked. We have an Oct Use Year for our BCV points, so the best we could hope for would be a Sept trip next year. Our future points have been earmarked for something else.

Perhaps you can rent your reservation. That is prime time for someone, and you don't "loose the points (financially)" that way. Congrats on your new addition :thumbsup2

Not having any grandchildren, if it was us, I would have to cancel. We would love to have grandchildren, but neither of our grown kids (DD30 and DS34) seem to have any interest in getting married (or even dating for that matter :rotfl2:).

If you have the time please consider renting those points or the reservation...I know everything is booked up that week. I tried adding on 2 nights to our Grand Gathering and was only able to do so at another resort for the same time you are staying. So we are spending our first two nights at AKL...not a big deal but the CM did tell me b/c of F&W Fest everything is booked! It'd be great if you could get some extra $ for the new little one! Congrats!! :goodvibes

We have 4 grandchildren. The Birth of the fourth was just as precious as the first. I would not have missed it. We were at Disney this year on a weeks stay on a RCI Trade. We left in the middle of it for our 2yr old's Grands Birthday party. When I booked the trip, there was some discussion about taking him to Disney for his Birthday, Oh yea they did, the week before. I lost half of my RCI week and drove like a bandit to arrive at his 4:30 start time for his party.

We love our alone time at Disney also, but it's all about family to us. Some memories just can't be replaced.

If you are questioning this, you will make the right decision for your peace of mind. Good luck with your decision!

I don't think you will regret this decision. Grandbabies are very special and this birth will only happen once. F/W won't be going anywhere.

We would consider renting the reservations. (have Thurs 9/30, and then again Mon-Thurs 10/4-10/7, checking out on Fri 10/8. I already cancelled the 3 nights in between which was at AKV.) We've rented points out twice in the past thru the rent/trade board on the Dis, but that was 4 yrs ago. At that time you could look to see who was wanting a certain time period & it was pretty easy. You could also post you have a reservation for rent. But not anymore. Last year we rented out points to relatives, and we're renting points to some relatives of in-laws for an upcoming trip this Dec. In fact, those AKV points were some of what was used for that Dec resv.

I've asked around (relatives, neighbors, etc) to see if anyone is interested, or knows of someone who would be. But haven't had any luck.

The due date is pretty firm right now at Oct 8th. However, there's always that chance of the baby making an early entrance. So we better not chance it.
