DH just recently is having problems with heights and didn't like a skyway ride without a foot rest. Should he be concerned about SOARIN'? I hear its a great ride and I'd hate him to miss it - but don't want him to be sick the rest of the day. What do you think?

If he is scared of heights, then ask to be seated in the last row. That's the one closest to the ground. The first row, although it has a better view (no feet) it's higher up. I get a little nervous about heights, but I was fine on it. You kind of forget you're off the ground. Have fun! ::MickeyMo

If you have on flops, they ask you to take them off and leave them on the floor. I've been on the first row, and it is high. The whole thing is to make you feel like you are "Soarin". And they do a pretty good job of it. If he starts to have trouble he can just close his eyes until it is over.

On our first Soarin' trip, my younger DD and I were SCARED to death!! Literally, she was trembling all over and my hands were so sweaty I could barely hold the hand grips. We closed our eyes A LOT during that first trip. Now, we LOVE the ride and can hardly wait to get back to it. Obviously, the two of us have MAJOR height scares. Anyway, your DH can always close his eyes. Definitely, ask for the last row and it would be better if he didn't sit on the end but in the middle of the row.

When they talk about the last row, they actually mean the third group. There are 3 groups in the room at a time and I think each group is 3 rows(I don't remember). You will see some feet dangling in front of you but it's not as bad as the first group. I hope that he does the ride but his feet will dangle.

Let me weigh in with what I think your husband might be feeling. I freaked when I was on a small ferris wheel and we moved back just one seat. I don't do very well when there's nothing to support my feet. Open air stuff isn't my thing.

My first ride on Soarin' was an adventure, to say the least. We were in the front row. My husband was on the left and some poor unfortunate lady was to my right. Neither one could claim any right to the hand holds. I was nervous but kind of knew what to expect.

The height isn't that bad but it's enough. I wouldn't say that your husband shouldn't go on it. I wasn't sick afterwards, just tense and nervous during the "ride". After that, I felt fine and wanted to go on it again. It is a great experience and my second time (in the second row) was much better.

Yeah, you do go up off the ground and have nothing under your feet. You are on a bench seat with hand holds if that helps. As someone who, I think, has the same fears as your husband, I would say he should try it but know what goes on. If he opts out once he sees the layout, he can. That's the important thing - he can walk out without riding if he wants. Won't harm a thing.

If posters are suggesting that closing your eyes will help you if you become uncomfortable on Soarin, does that mean that the bench/seat does not move during the ride?

The seats do move but the movements are very gentle. The isuue I had on my first ride was that my feet were danlgling and I was too close to the end of the row. My poor DD was at the end of the row. The second time around was so much better and now we love the ride.

I never had a problem with heights until recently. Soarin' kind of shocked me because the seats took off all of a sudden - it was pretty unexpected when we were lifted into the air. The first time I went on, I was in the 3rd row, and it wasn't so bad. So I went on it again for a second time, and was put in the 2nd row. Well, for some reason I looked down and really started to panic...as soon as the ride ended I said no more! (even tho I had another Fastpass). So I echo everyone else when they say to sit in the 3rd row. Also, be prepared for the sudden "lift-off".

This week DH and I rode Soarin' 7 times. I have a fear of heights and was apprehensive about riding. The first time was a bit scarey, but not enough to keep me from trying it again. There are 3 sections, (A,B+C), and each section has three rows, (1,2+3) Row ! "soars" upward about 40 feet, row 2 less, and row 3 moves upwards the least. There are about 10 seats across each row in each section. Once you are up, then the rows move slightly to simulate a glider. If you are afraid of heights, request row 3 when it's your turn to go into the ride. After our first few flights, DH and I grew to love this ride and asked for Section B, row 1 each time (most realistic view) and were always granted our request.

That's good to know that you didn't feel sick afterwards as that is the worst when going on one ride affects what you want to do the rest of the day. Though I hate to have him have that sick feeling at all.....Glad to know, too, the second was better. Thanks.
