Okay, so my nephew wants a Wii U. I know that this is going to be one of the hottest gifts this year especially being that it only came out a few days ago. Any strategies for getting one?

I got an email from toys r us about 2 hours ago that they have them in stock. They probably aren't anymore but you should sign up for their emails.

What is everyone's thoughts on this system? We get a LOT of use out of our wii. My dear older MIL, who knows nothing about the game or the PRICE saw one on TV and suggested my 6 year old put it on his Santa list. thanks. not. Just have not done any research.

I don't think the system is quite as hot as they thought it would be. Target in town opened at 1AM last night and at 11AM they still had 5 or 6 of them in the case. Some in white and some in black. Everyone I know says the same thing; "We have a wii and I'm not sinking $300 to $350 into a new system." Comparatively speaking, The Wii/Skylanders Bundle OTH was flying off the shelf they had half a huge pallet of them @ 4AM and when I left @ 11 there were only a dozen or so left. (2nd time thru because AT&T cellular was down first time I was there)

We'd like to get one but the reviews are mixed on it, do I think we are going to wait closer to Christmas to see if they drop any. DS would rather have an iPad anyways.

You won't see a price drop on a brand new system. Theses are hard to find in many places and the demand will increase as games are released.

I think chances of you getting one are pretty good. My DH had his name on waitlists at two different Game Stops. Both Game Stops called us the first day of release, but we had to be there within 24 hours to pick it up. With our crazy schedules on Sunday and Monday we couldn't make it. We got called again from both Game Stops that more were in and that we could come pick one up. By this time, however, DH had read some mixed reviews and my boys didn't seem as excited about it. DH since pulled his name off of the waitlists, and we now bought each of our boys a 3 DS, which was also on their Christmas list. Today we saw a Wii-U at K-Mart and a few at Target. I don't think they are as popular as was thought, IMO.

Nintendo has a HUGE stock of the Wii U for the North American market. They were able to fulfill GameStops 500,000 units (which with past systems has been the total release number).

Keep checking stores. My wife and I just came back from Target an hour ago and they had 5 or 6 of the Basic Units in stock. Deluxe Unit was sold out. I also saw a few at Best Buy and Walmart today also.

On ToysRUs.com. Deluxe Version with two extra games (total of three game). Hated spending the extra money, but we would have to buy games anyway, so i figured it was a wash and now my Christmas Shopping is complete. Worth it right there.:)

Your first statement could not be further from the truth. Response to the system has been huge! They are the hot item for Christmas this year.
