OK....I have no idea which one would be better for us so I need some help. My DH & I have decided we will just be getting 1 family gift this year for Christmas since money is so tight. What are you thoughts on each. We are a family of 4 with 2 young girls 11 & 7.

Thanks for any help!!!

I have a Wii and an Xbox. My DS 15 is an xbox player. He has Xbox Live and can actually play with other people from around the globe. He has the kinect and rarely uses it. But - the family uses the Wii - if we have families over - we use the Wii. DS will play Mario with good old Mom and Dad. I think girls will do better with the Wii. Your DH would probably like Xbox, the graphics are better - for the shoot'm up games, racing games, sports games. The games for the Wii tend to be cheaper to purchase.

Happy Shopping.

We've had a Wii for 3 years now and still love it. We went with the Wii then because of my inability to play a game post Atari, and DD was almost 3 when we bought it and we figured once she was able to play the Wii would be easier over the Xbox. Now for this Christmas we have purchased an Xbox. Disneyland Adventures was reason enough for me. DH is more of a gamer than I am, he had a PS2 when we met, but I couldn't figure out the controls enough to play a game with him. :confused3 He never has been happy with the Wii. He's enjoyed playing family type of games, and a few games with DD5, but otherwise he doesn't like it. He's more excited over the Xbox than I think DD is going to be. :rolleyes1 With your daughter's ages they may really enjoy the kinect. I'm pretty sure our DD soon to be 6 will love not having a controller to mess with when playing kinect games. The Wii does have more girl and younger kid friendly games, but then again I know my fair share of teen and adult girls that play Halo and other type of games so I won't say specifically Xbox is more of a boy's gaming system. I've browsed though the available games for Xbox and there's plenty available to keep myself and DD happy.

Another thing to consider is that Nintendo is said to be releasing a new gaming system next year. This worries me for how long the Wii and it's games are going to be available. Nintendo has yet to release a new system that can read and play the games from an older system. Just think of all of the Super Nintendos, Nintendo 64's and Game Cubes collecting dust in a basement somewhere. If this is the case with the new system I would expect over the next year available games for the Wii to become less and less, and new releases to be limited. On the flip side, accessories and other things for the Wii should become much cheaper until they sell out. I've already seen quite a few things for the Wii at a deep discount. I just picked up a nylon sleeve and cushion for the balance board for $1.98 at Toysrus. Last year that was a $24 item. I hope I'm wrong and that Nintendo will see the success that Playstation has had allowing newer systems to play the older games, but who knows? Because of this I am happy to be adding an xbox to our collection. Not that we're big gamers, but I think the xbox is something that hopefully will be around for a bit longer and one that DD can continue to enjoy as her skills increase. Oh and did I mention Disneyland Adventures? How can you not want to play that every day? :thumbsup2

We have both Wii and Xbox 360. We love them very much.
Personally I think Wii is better for family.

I have the Wii for about 3 years and now my kids are older I am getting X Box with Kinnect for this Christmas. I put my Wii up on ebay. Don't get me wrong it's a lot of fun but I got a chance to play Kinnect at my kids school and I really liked it. I also like you can play X Box games on it. I haven't been playing my Wii all that much.

We used to play Animal Crossing every day but after a year we did everything there is to do. Wii Resort is fun but we are pro in everthing. So we are looking forward to new challenges and not having to use a Wii remote.

I have been having this debate too- my ds8 and dd11 think disneyland game sounds cool, so do I,lol. BUT, the price EEK, when they are getting other things too it really adds up.
My son likes racing games and plays our old ps2 alot. SO for him, I think xbox. DD11, a girly girl not in a hurry to grow up I think would like Wii games, with the exception of the danged disneyland game being only for xbox . If only wii had it too:headache:

Actually, you CAN play Game Cube games on the Wii. The new system coming out is called the Wii U. The Wii U will be compatible with current Wii games and accessories (including the balance board), but will not be compatible with the Game Cube games. It is scheduled for release next year. Here is some info for anyone who is interested in the Wii U.

We have owned both systems and ended up selling our Wii to buy an Xbox. For children your girls ages I believe you would be happier with the Wii. The Wii seems to be more family friendly. There are some family games on the Xbox, but in my opinion not as much as the Wii. The Xbox seems to be more geared toward teens and gamers.

I've played the Wii alot but when my husband and I got married he had the Xbox Kinect. I like the Kinect a lot better. The Wii has interative games but you can sit on the couch and play pretty much any of them. The Kinect you have to actually get up and play. To me it's better to get up and play a game than just sit there.

We have the WII & LOVE it! My DS (17) has the Xbox-with Xbox live. I was lucky enough to get the Xbox/Kinect bundle on Amazon last week for $199 :) so I bought it for my DS (10). I have heard great things & I can't wait to try it. Its on his list & my oldest son will be taking his Xbox to college next year so I grabbed the deal since it was a great price!
