Wii freezes up

Does anyone else have this problem and what can I do about it?
We have had our Wii for a little over a year. This problem happened once or twice awhile back, now it happens everytime my DS is playing. He is getting fustrated, because we have to turn it off to fix the problem. (his game progress is lost) Is there a simple solution? I know nothing about video games HELP

we had that problem not too long after we first got ours, sent it in (was still under warrenty) and havent had a problem since(well over a year now)

I don't know however my Wii is broken too. It is going to cost 80 bucks to fix it. My disc reader is broken.
