Why we won't use the Radisson anymore

Oh Taswira...what a great idea. Just back from a vacation that I did end up writing several letters to hotel corporations about....a photo tells a thousand words. Wish I thought to do that. I'll remember next time. (I would have had some pictures of that Radisson in NM, by the way!!)

As I promised I would tell you how my husband has fared this week; he organized a conference at Doubletree Cocoa Beach and several conference rooms and about 25+ rooms. He arrived today around 5 PM. He had booked a king room-non-smoking; they gave him a double-smoking. He complained and they gave him a double-non-smoking. He called me and said never again would he stay there. I told them to tell them he was responsible for giving them all this business etc. He said forget it, they would not listen.
So I called them. They said "we are booked solid and when this happens, even if you guarantee a room you could get smoking or a double bed room; it is first come first served." I said well maybe they could move him tomorrow and they said they are booked solid all week; yes there are, probably partially thanks to my husband who had the agent book about 25 rooms for the conference he was heading.
Live and learn.
Thought you would all want a heads up and if you must have a king bed and or non-smoking DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.
And it is not in great shape either from what my husband says. I was thinking I stayed at Quality Suites Melbourne Beach 6 years ago and had a good experience; this location is further away from the Port, but it is a little more upscale than Cocoa Beach and perhaps it will be better.

To DonnaMD
Could you please email me the dates that your husband was there - just send it to snelsonbrown@aol.com - I really would appreciate if you could do this for me since I do not live too far from there - we do have nice hotels and motels here and when there is a problem, I do like to check out the reasons as I have done with Royal Mansions and the Radisson which by the way both were so sincere in their cooperation with me - .
Thanks for the information and will get back with you.
sincerely
Shirley

We stayed at the Radisson last year (the end of October), we had a 2 king suite it was nice. My only complaints were the sofa in the living room was in awful shape no one could sleep on it also the T.V. in that room did not work.

BED BUGS!!!!! Yukie!!!!!! I did notice that something had bitten me but I thought it was fleas. They do allow pets to stay there. There were so many dogs staying there that weekend some kind of dog show going on.

I sure hope they clean it up we have ressies for a 2 night stay before our October 25, cruise.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the condition (cleanliness) also depends on what maid crew handles the particular rooms being serviced. Our 2-king suite for our June cruise was not “perfect,” but we managed. Was it worth $99, sure.

I have stayed the last 10 or so nights exclusively in the suites - and they seem to be better taken of. The Caribbean rooms are nothing to write home about anyway.

I have stayed more than 20 nights at this Radisson (both recreation and work), and I can honestly say some rooms are maintained better than others. I have never stayed in a sub-standard room there, but have had corrections made: Remote control not functioning, clogged whirlpool drain, dirty fridge, A/C.

However, if you inspect your room before moving in - and it is unacceptable, then ask to be moved right away. Why would one accept a problem, then complain later – it’s your own fault then. I have asked to be moved in other upscale hotels for cleanliness, equipment disrepair, noisy guests, smoke smell, etc. In every case so far, I was accommodated.

My point is, if the room doesn’t meet your reasonable standards then you have the right to move. If the hotel does not make amends, or can not move you, then refuse payment and leave. If you discover a deficiency after moving in, ask for a correction or compensation.

P.S. – Always pay with a major credit card, because if you run into hotel management that doesn’t believe in customer service, you can stop payment (and I have).

We have already made reservations at the Radisson for our cruise in late September... I am hoping that new carpet is layed, things are cleaned up, etc. by that time. We were so looking forward to staying so close to the Port, enjoying the tropical pool area with DS. ( He will be so excited to see that alligator!!! He knows that Florida is 'where the alligators are!') You know, all of the reasons that it seems that so many have stayed at, and recommended, the Radisson in the past. It sounds as if the Radisson has been a nice hotel, but may have become a bit run down? Surely nothing that some new Carpet, Bedspreads, etc... would not remedy. I had even heard on an earlier thread that the staff seemed very nice, smiling when asked to recommend dining other than the Radisson...

You know, I'll bet that the hotel general manager is subject to higher management when it comes to renovation schedules, approvals for the $$$, etc... Perhaps this thread has caused Mr. Panackia to contact his superiors with this thread, in order to get the approval to proceed with these much needed improvements?

We will keep our reservation, but will also be sure to contact Mr. Panackia, and to request the very best (cleanest) of rooms. The rainforest rooms sound nice. The air cleaner is a deal maker for me, if they are in there, and they work!

Love the suggestions about taking detailed photos, and about inspecting your room prior to finalizing your check-in!!! We too have asked for better rooms before. Ex. DH and I just never get the opportunity to get away alone together. Well this Spring, we actually made a reservation at a Clarion, which overlooks a small river, and seemed to be very very nice. We arrived very early, to insure that we would be able to get a nice room... not left-overs... So, here we are, a relatively ( and I did say 'relatively' ;) ) young couple, checking in for a much needed getaway alone together. They gave us a ground-floor room, directly (and I do mean 'directly'.) on the vehicle unloading-turn around area! No, way.... I told DH that I would just not be happy with that, went right back up to the front desk, and asked to be changed. They actually seemed to Roll-their-eyes a little bit, but suddenly a nice room with a view overlooking the River just became available for us! Sometimes it can pay to ask... Be picky... Just be very NICE about it!!! ;)

Have stayed at the Raddi 3 times now. Each time we had a nice clean room. Well worth the money. The pool and grounds were beautiful. And the staff was very nice. As for the bugs...we too got ate up the first time we stayed there....it's called No-see-ums. I have been told these are basically gnats with teeth! So a little bug spray and you will be okay!

I can almost guarantee that the bites experienced by those that are not familiar with Florida's "bugs" are "no seeums' or also known as gnats - they do bite and they do feel like you are itching all over - I live on the 5th floor of a condo and they still somehow managed to find Norm and I - in fact I am still iching today - the only thing I have found that helps is the stay offs and also Avon Baby so soft - unfortnaulty bugs do love Florida and we do not have a winter cold enough to kill them off, but Florida has a great amount of a good side to her - again on the Radisson - I do believe they have the best interest at heart - and like anyone else making big decisions, the yes comes from the mouths of the owner - but I also know he wants what is best for his hotel -
Anyhow everyone have a great week and lets all start it with good thoughts.
God bless each of you as you start the week.
Luv ya all
Shirley

YooHoo...Any Radisson higher ups reading this thread......The Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Albuquerque, NM needs fixing up in a major way. Yuck!

Does anyone know if the No-See_Ums are worse this year than normally. We've been to the beach before and have a pond in our backyard and never been bitten by them. We went to Vero and couldn't stay outside, b/c we couldn't see Um but we could feel Um and they left awful presents!

Hey Shirley.

In my opinion you SHOULD receive some material compensation for the time and effort you expend on behalf of all the Disers and their families and friends you so graciously assist. Therefore I am bestowing upon you and Norm an open-ended invitation to stay at Buckaroo's Dad's home if/when you ever decide to visit New York. Everything here is exceptionally clean (aside from my mind), so you need not concern yourselves with providing your own linens and such.

Thank you, my dear Shirley, for being the person you are...

BD - you are truly a gentleman! I am proud to call you a friend.

And Shirley - if you ever want to come to Indiana - you have a friend here!!!!!

When we stayed there in January, our suite was also in bad shape. Burn marks in the sofa, dirty carpets, and overall, the suite was very worn. I'm not sure if we'll be back or not, hopefully they'll renovate soon.

When I was a young teen, my dream was not only to study to be an attorney but to marry a Key West hometown boy but before I did all the things from above, my dream was to travel all over the United States - tho I didn't get to finish off two of my hopes and dreams --the most important one was and that was to marry my childhood boyfriend (1st grade that is) -now if the time ever comes that I can travel - I would love to see everyone's hometown - just to see how the States really are - I have been out of Fla very little - thanks so much for the invites - I feel very honored, but even if I never make it a dream to come true - I appreciate each time someone emails me to tell me about their hometown and history - I printed every letter and put into my scrapbook - thanks from the heart :-)
Now the importance of this letter - Mr Joe Panackia stopped by the shop today - I had called him yesterday and asked him if he had a chance to stop by the shop anytime he had the opportunity to - I was very pleased to see that he really is a man of his word - I found him to be very sincere in his efforts to make everything as near perfect as possible for all the guest of the Radisson - He was saying that they have over 80,000 reservations a year and the wear and tear does create a problem, but they were doing all that was possible to keep it a high quality hotel - I trust him to keep his word.

Now I recieved an email a little while ago and I would like to publically answer it so again there is no question ever again about there I stand ok - just because I follow up something does not mean that I am in "anybody's pocket" including the Radisson - even if I was offered anything from anyone - my answer has always been please pass it down to the cruisers - this has mainly been offered in Key West which I have repeated many many times - Mr. Panackia was a gentleman and no did not offer anything for saying what I did - I am not for or against anyone or anything ----I am just someone that is interested in your concerns and interest - THAT IS IT - I hope that this will make it plain and simple and I won't have to repeat it again -
In fact, I won't - I am not only a very honest and respected business woman but also a very honest and respected individual
and no I am not perfect - got a lot of mistakes under my belt, but I do own up to them.
Hope all is well and I hope that things will work out for everyone whereever they choose to stay.
I leave each with this - if I can help ---Norm and I are always here for you ok
With love always
Shirley:D

Ok, ok - geez. Shirley hasn't traveled very much, but I have. And I know a New Jersey "pitch" when I see it. Stop trying to get dear Shirley to DISrobe. Taking the shirt off her back and such. My word, Mr. Verandah Man. You should be ashamed of yourself...
