boatboatboat said:Muushka I don't think anyone is putting down a resort or an owner. I think people are putting down Disney and how they are marketing the newer resorts.
I think, people are concerned that people are being sold SSR and shown pics of BCV and BWV and told that they will be able to stay at those places. Those places are already sold out.......
How many resorts is Disney going to sell using "you can walk to epcot" as part of the sales pitch? At what point in time is it obvious that Disney is harming their CURRENT owners in an effort to market off site resorts?
Hi-
I am new at posting with a quote of someone else's, I'm not sure how you do that. (The above is a quote from an earlier entry)
I must say that we were sold SSR before it was even built. We were taken on a tour at BWV. It was pitched to us that we were really buying all of the resorts, but SSR would be where our actual address on the deed. We were so new to this, we had no idea that we could buy resale. We were told that other resorts were sold out. I do think that some spectacular attraction should be placed at SSR to make it more desirable.
Aha this sums up how we feel about SSR pretty nicely. We also vacation for 2 weeks at a time, so feeling like having a home rather than a hotel is important to us too.La2kw said:I got stuck staying at SSR last summer. I hated it so much, I decided to do my first ever add-on there!Seriously, we've owned at OKW since it was called "Disney Vacation Club" and there was not even an inkling of a BCV or a WLV. We have stayed at every DVC resort more than once, but we bypassed add-ons at all those other resorts because SSR is the only one besides OKW that ever appealed to us as owners. The other resorts are nice, just not what we want to stay at for the next 46 years. We are not from the real Saratoga Springs so the themeing to us is fine. Being adjacent to DTD is a definite plus. We vacation for two weeks at a time so we like having a home, not living in a hotel. We enjoy our resort time as much as our park time. The other DVC resorts feel like a hotel to us. OKW is our neighborhood and SSR is a beautiful village.

First off SSR is very desireable as is at least to a large majority of the owners.. As far as using the other resorts possibly you did not read your contract or mis understood your salesperson. It's actually very clear, if you book 11 to 7 months out home resort is very important so buy where you want to stay. If you usually book less then 7 months buy SSR because you get more time. SSr is large but it will have the same ratio of owners per room.

I don't understand what you are saying here. Would you mind explaining?

They can only sell enough points to fill the rooms, minus the expected down time, same as all the other resorts. We follow the same 11/7 month rule as everone else so we will not impact the other resorts any more than they already are, since they are usually booked up before the 7 month window during peak seasons. I'm sure SSR will be no different once sold out. The only people that may be affected are those trying to get into properties other than their home resort since there will be more people booking at 7months.fishermouse said:I don't understand what you are saying here. Exactly, that's why when we started to look to buy and decided we'd spend the most time at BCV, we followed Beca's constant drumming of "buy where you want to stay" and not the "additional 12 years...". The common theme and projection is by 2009, if not sooner, it will be difficult to get BCV / BWV within 7 months - which can be discouraging to those that get a last minute opportunity (via DING) to fly down for a long weekend or whatever...
I, of course, have planned out vacations through 2010, so I think I'm ok - or weird?

I own at the BWV and would have no problem being told by MS at 3 mths "our only opening is bcv,or vwl". Those 2 resorts we added AFTER I bought, and IMO are as good if not BETTER, then where I own. SSR isn't.............that's the rub.
When the resort with the least DELUXE type features, makes up 40% of the rooms in WDW , ya got's your self a situation.........
Mrs Potato Head.....Can someone explain to me why SSR is considered to have less "deluxe type features"? Other than not being attached to Epcot or MGM, what is less deluxe about this resort? Not having a wild and crazy swimming pool feature?
I agree. You GO girlBut staying at SSR is still deluxe in my book. And I'm a pretty spoiled person, so that's saying something.

Not that I agree with what many will say here, but the replies you're probably going to get will be :
SSR and OKW do Not have :
1) indoor hallway entrance to room (in other words, they are not attached to a hotel/lobby area).
Definately an opion of each individual. There are many resorts in Carribean, Mexico, Hawaii, etc that are Deluxe that do not have hallways. Not a requirement, just a preference.
2) valet parking
Considerinng on how SSR is layed out Valet service would make no sense. However, I would expect shuttle service (those little golf cart type vehicles) to take us to our room upon arrival. Especially if you came via the Magical Express. Have not stayed there yet, so don't know if they offer that service.
3) room service
Room service should be added, even with a limited menu! Let's see after the resturant is opened if that gets added to the resort amenities.

Not sure about OKW but SSR will shuttle you and your luggage to your room at check in and back to lobby at checkout.
To each his own, but the reason I want a suite as opposed to a hotel room is so if I want to eat in I can throw something together in my own kitchen. Fact is I have only had room service a few times in my vacationing life. I prefer to go out.
The pool at SSR is fantastic don't know what else people want from a pool, great theme, bar, two hot tubs and food available. If it's the distance from some rooms here's two things to consider. three quiet pools closer to the rooms, and second if walking is an issue WDW is not the place to be.
IMHO if these are issues don't stay at SSR, personally I love it just the way it is! All this bad mouthing is from folks who have probably never stayed there or just like to whine, get over it and stay where your happy, us SSR folks will not miss you![]()
I haven't managed to figure this one out myself.Mrs Potato Head said:Can someone explain to me why SSR is considered to have less "deluxe type features"? Other than not being attached to Epcot or MGM, what is less deluxe about this resort? Not having a wild and crazy swimming pool feature?![]()

If it's because of valet parking and room service, then I disagree. Those are something you would expect at a deluxe hotel. SSR is in my opinion a deluxe apartment/condo resort, so I wouldn't expect those features there. And who needs valet parking when you park outside the building anyway?
I do agree that poolside dining would be a nice option to have.
SSR already has a Spa and a golf course onsite (which other DVC can boast that?), the room decor seems more upscale than the other DVC's, and it will soon have a TS restaurant...Thinking about it SSR is more deluxe than the others![]()
