Why no SSR love?

B3....love ya, I REALLY do!!! You have posted MANY of the most entertaining posts I have read in a long time!!! That being said....

....to other posters....HE IS KIDDING about the "on-site" "off-site" situation....he really does know that you cannot possibly be "on-site" to all parks....he is having a really good time with all of you!! Seriously, he is having "big chuckles" at how uptight DVC owners are!!

Just let it go....

;)

So if you stay at BWV or BCV, you never go to AK or MK, right? You're at an offsite resort for those two parks. Man, you're going to miss out on a lot of fun.

we walk for 12 min from our room to epcot and get on the monorail.

Now that definition is just plain wrong. "Off site" means it's not on Disney property. It has always meant that. It has nothing to do with the mode of transportation or the proximity to a theme park. SSR is on Disney property, hence it is an onsite resort.

Okay....now, here we are going to get into "semantics", but that is not always true. Depending upon how you look at it, on-site can mean many things to many different people. The majority of us would probably agree on:

1) On WDW property
2) Owned by WDW
3) Entitled to all "perks" of "on-site guests"
4) Eligible for WDW transportation

If that is the case, the Swan/Dolphin are "iffy". They are technically "on-site", as the land is owned by WDW, but it is leased to other companies, and they are not entitled to all "on-site guest" perks.

So you don't count the hike through Epcot to get to the monorail? You must get AP or PAP or have hopping passes so you don't have to use a ticket to get to the monorail.

yes i do count it. hence the 12 mins. Keep in mind we only do this for AK or MK, for epcot we simply walk the 12 min, and MGM we take the 15 min boat ride. I must admit as time goes on we are using the buses to get to AK and MK, to take advantage of the early opening for EMH. I hate buses, they feel so unclean........ I always take wet wipes to clean the seats.

For our family the 10 day park hopper no exp dates work best. We normaly come to WDW for 5-6 days, and spend 3 of those days at the parks. The other 2 days we spend at the pool and eating at the ON SITE food places at the BW or BC. We eat our evening meal almost on a park day, in Epcot. We enjoy watching the firworks after dinner from the bridge and then walking 10 min to one of the bars on the boardwalk. That is where my wife tries to get me boozed up so i'll buy her stuff. It's how I ended up owing DVC to start with........

Okay...what DVC owner doesn't have AP's or PAP's? :rolleyes2

JUST KIDDING!!!! :rotfl2: That was totally for Doctor P's benefit!!! (I'll never forget our discussions after DVC took away the ticket discounts to give the AP ones....man, was he mad!!!)

Are you saying the boat and monorail seats are cleaner than bus seats? :rotfl2:

You also must have the best luck on those Epcot resort boats. They always seem to take a lot longer for us to get to MGM than 15 minutes.

Funny to see this thread title because when we let MGM for our DVC tour and they told us we were going to SSR I told DH that "it was the one resort I did not want to tour." I had read and heard so many negative things about it.
However, upon visiting it, I thought it looked great and I am not sure if I'll buy there but if I buy DVC I will stay there sometime and look forward to doing so!

A little while back, my sis & her family shared a trip to OKW with us - sis hadn't been to WDW for years. I extoled the virtues of DVC to get them interested. (They're well travelled and can afford pretty much any timeshare they want.) They LOVED OKW, they thought BWV and BCV were outstanding! Wow, we were on a roll!

Then they saw SSR. My sis stood there looking at it and said, "Why on earth would I want to come to WDW and stay in a big, vanilla apartment complex? THIS is what they're going to offer from now on?" SSR brought any talk of joining to a screeching halt. They didn't trust what else DVC might do in the future.

This is when I realized DVC might have shot themselves in the foot with SSR. I'm pretty sure my sis wasn't the only discriminating prospective buyer who felt this way.

Seeing SSR almost stopped us from buying too...until we found out about resales. :) I figured if we bought an Epcot resort, we'd always be happy. We plan to always book at 11 mos, so we should always be happy.

cobbler says : Sorry but the off site thing just cracks me up. That means all the values are off site. All the moderates are off site, AKL is off site, SSR and OKW are offsite.
I'm with ya :rotfl: B3 lost me on this one.......
We own an offsite timeshare (Vistana), so believe me....we know what OFFSITE is :lmao:

OK walk fopr 12 min. wait 10 to 15 min for monorail, ride another 10 to 15 minutes. The bus is probably faster even from an onsite resort like BWV. I know I can get from my offsite SSR in 30 minutes. :hourglass

I do hope Beca is right in that B3 is just having some fun with all this ;) Because it's 12 min to walk to the IG at Epcot.....then you still have at least a 10-15 min walk to the other end of the Epcot park to catch the monorail....could have a 5 min wait for the monorail.....then maybe a 5-7 min ride to get to the MK. Total time could be 30+ min from BWV to MK this route ? Catching the bus is much faster from BWV to the MK (we've done this).
So to B3, is VWL only onsite in respect to MK/Epcot then (because one can boat to the MK then catch a monorail ?) Just trying to figure out the rhyme to your reasoning. It's really the mode of bus transporation that you have issues with ? Or maybe you're just sitting back, reading all these replies and laughing your head off :rotfl: ;)
Regardless, it IS pretty entertaining...........

we all drink 3 cups of coffee in the am.

we all then all agree non of us can use the restroom untill we get to the monorail depot at epcot.

the walk time is right at 12 min.

Buses are the ONE problem we have with BWV. Don't always count on them be either fast OR reliable. Last October, we waited an AVERAGE of 45 minutes for MK buses at BWV - plus travel time to get there. And longer coming back. After one trip when it took us 1.5 hours to get there and nearly 2 hours to get back to the villa, we went back to driving.

We also did the monorail route - the walk through Epcot to/from the monorail was MUCH faster than the bus.

We did experience one troublesome day getting to the MK during our stay at BWV. It was a night there was an EMH and it did take about 25 min for a bus to show up. This was at about 8 pm during the month of August on a Friday night. But other times, waits seemed to be about 10-15. I've only had 1 stay at BWV so I'm not sure what the norm is there. Epcot is a very large park and I just figured the busses would be better than that hike to the IG and then all the way around to the front of Future World to get the monorail. Maybe not from what you say DisFlan ?

We stayed our first DVC visit at SSR - liked it a lot, but "loved" the others BCV, BWV and OKW when we toured them that week. I agree with Daitcher's posting of what needs to improve.

We won't be disappointed if we get "stuck" at SSR under the 7 month window, but would prefer the others first.

We liked the pool a lot, kids loved the slide - heck I did! But what was going through my mind was, man this is a small pool for such a large resort - I wonder what it's like during Spring Break or some other busy time....

3B - how come you haven't used the "SSR has the only "zero depth" entry pool" line yet???

SSR has or will have three other "quiet pools" complete with hot tubs. Since DW and I no longer go to WDW in the busy seasons, I don't see the crowds also never have trouble getting a room. Maybe this is why I don't see any of the problems OP write about, long waits for the bus, crowded pools or over stressed employees. WE go to relax and so far have had no trouble doing just that. Even Wine and Food is not really crowded, maybe BWV an BC get booked up they are the best locations for W+F, but the parks are not bad. Any way this has been a very fun post I'm sure much of it was just good clean "my dogs better than your dog" razzing among DVC family members.

We always go in the busy season and were there at SSR for 16 nights last summer. We had none of those problems either. I think it just depends on what you are looking for to happen.
