Why no SSR love?

I would, HOWEVER, like a pool side drink. Alcoholic, please. That is luxury to me. But sorry to offend, I'd like it without the hussle and bustle of a thousand screaming toddlers at my feet...so I'm not sure that will happen anytime soon. I LOVE my kids, and I look forward to grandchildren someday, but my kids are teenagers now and I don't need to be sitting at SAB or the coaster pool at BWV's just to have a drink in my hand and be at a pool at the same time.

here here! Can't agree more! BCV is like a little colony of ants of kids, running around your legs a millon miles per hour. Something to improve on at SSR you ask? I would love a walk up bar at the CP quiet pool. That would just be heaven. I will admit the HR pool gets way hectic also. Disney needs to figure out that everyone in the world does not have half-lings strapped to their legs. ;)

And the room service issue? Pleaaaaaaaaase. Our last stay was at BCV, had to stay there and check it out as everyone goes on and on about how awesome it is. Well won't go negative about the resort itself, but the pizza is fair game. We ordered a pizza via room service and it was unedible. $25 down the toliet. Room service for us is something we have no desire to ever do again. And yes, we have over the years ordered other things, all not worth the $$. Note I am not slamming BCV pizza, but the room service option in general.

I am getting way tired of people believing that to be a top notch hotel you have to be able to have a $30 grosso burger and fries delievered to your room.

Just an added note on the room service, Take out taxi delivers from a huge selection of offsite resturants and is probably cheaper than room service..

Hmmm...good option for "room service". Where did you get that local menu? I'm pretty sure it probably wasn't in the room ;)

well the paper work for my hh add on, came today.

In doing alittle looking at the multi site public offering statement, I stumbled across some numbers I found interesting.

seems that some folks think the ssr main pool is lacking, some think it is just fine.

here are the raw numbers. keep in mind the size of the resort. what follows are the resorts max capacity of each resorts main theme pool.

bwv 102

bcv 61+sab of 1200=1261

vwl 122

ssr 180

vero 147

hh 99

now let's look at the children pools

vb 42

hh 20

bwv 28

wvl 25

bcv 40

ssr none

now let's look at the hot tubs at the feature pool

vb 7

hh 20

bwv 7

wvl 20

ssr 24

all the resorts except vb have other "quiet" pools.

do these numbers compare with the size of the resorts?

When my family goes to wdw we go to do 2 things.

#1 go to the parks.......(gotta love those boat rides, and 10 min walks)

#2 lay around the pool, and have lunch in the sunshine from a great place to eat, that is only a few steps away.

Two things...First does SAB actually hold 1200+ people? If so wow! Second, is there a total pool capacity of each resort, since several have multiple pools?

it says 1200........?

additional pool capacity

vb na

hh 125

bwv 52

wvl 150

bcv 61

ssr 2 pools for a total of 81

additional hot tubs

vb na

hh na

bwv 5

wvl 15

bcv 3 at 9 each total 27

ssr 2 -5/6 total 11

once again, compare the capacity to the size of the resort.

I don't know if B3 was kidding about 1200 or not, but SAB is actually registered with the state of Florida as a "water park"...WDW had to register it that way to get the licensing for it (it probably gave the state more $$$$$ that way).

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh BUT we assumed that when we booked at 3 mths the resort we COULD get into we be as nice and have the same overall quality,as the resort we bought. I own at the BWV and would have no problem being told by MS at 3 mths "our only opening is bcv,or vwl". Those 2 resorts we added AFTER I bought, and IMO are as good if not BETTER, then where I own. SSR isn't.............that's the rub.

When the resort with the least DELUXE type features, makes up 40% of the rooms in WDW , ya got's your self a situation.........

If that is the case, then you'll either have to slum with the rest of us at SSR, stay off property, or don't go! :rotfl:

Very true Fishermouse. It makes me laugh when people complain about the walk to the pool, despite the fact that they walk miles and miles in the parks. Unless they are the people who get themselves a :moped: in the parks when they don't need one :confused3

But, that's just it!! There are days when we go to the parks and walk, and walk, and walk. Then, there are those days where we are tired of walking, and just want to spend a day "relaxing" and enjoying things that our right outside our room. The setup of BCV is one of the things we like best about the place. We can go to SAB, eat lunch at HH's or B&C (getting our really AWESOME burger fix)...or, if we are tired of burgers, we can go to the Marketplace and get yummy gourmet Chicken Ceasar Salads made fresh, and top it off with gelato or incredible "delicacies" made by the chefs at the resort (the brownie and chocolate cake are SINFUL). I can even get my haircut while dh and dd swim. In the morning, we can take our dd to have a character b'fast in our lobby, or we can go to the "clam bake" in evening. All within a couple minute's walk to room.

I don't "mind" walking when the day's itenerary calls for it. But, when we want to spend a day "relaxing" at the resort, I don't want a long walk in the heat to get to the amenities of my resort...I want to open the door to my room and "be there".

I'm REALLY glad to hear that all of the SSR owners posting here LOVE their resort so much. I really hope that, over time the majority of owners find that they want to book "home" more than they want to book away. The results of my poll have me even more nervous about owning at BCV....I knew the BCV's were popular....I just didn't realize HOW popular. I feel really lucky to own there, especially since it is so popular...but, that definitely has its downsides as well. I wish DVC would try to build resorts that are EQUALLY popular (in relation to their size. Seriously...the least popular resort should be VWL, followed by BCV, BWV, OKW and the most popular resort should be SSR...for the happiness of EVERYONE)...it doesn't seem fair to anyone to have one resort that is so small, and so much more popular than the others. Owners get frustrated because they think there should be more availability at their home resort, and other resort owners get frustrated because they cannot get into the resort. I know EVERYONE does not like, or want to stay at BCV....but, seriously....look at that poll...considering the size of the resort....it is WAAAYYY too popular.

P.S. B3, How many hot tubs are at SAB and the quiet pool?

I was just browsing thru the resort page here at disboards. I noticed that at SSR the listed a pool bar called "On The Rock". Did that not happen or did they close it?

I'll rent the points on ebay(for 17 dollars btw) so a couple with 9 kids can book a studio.

They will drop the kids off at the pool everyday, and head over to DD to get blasted.

I'll use the rental proceeds to book a week at the swan. It's a 15 min walk to epcot, and a 15 min boat ride to mgm.

I've been reading these posts and the truth is that SSR guest are stuck swimming in a small mud puddle that comes from the run off of BWV. It does feel good though after you spend the night in an unairconditioned trailer. There is talk of putting a full service popeyes chicken just a stones throw from the outhouse. That'll be just dandy. Sure hope it has lots of seats though. I feel real so self concious in my tank top and cutoffs when we hitch hike over to the on site resorts.. There is bus service but it stops in Newark on the way to the parks

I don't think that is a nice answer, considering the $$$ B3 (and all of us) put into this. I think a lot of B3's points are very valid ones.

Hmmm....now I am thinking. What we really need is a "sticky" where people can post how far out (inside the 7 month window) they booked, and what resorts were available when they did. It could be a "running" thread...like the ROFR one where people can see whether the "buy where you want to stay" thread is a good one, or a load of "bunk".

What do you guys think? Would you post your info? I would be happy to "tabulate" the thread, but someone would have to do it for me when I go "to the world" ;) .

Please, let me know what you think of this idea.

There you go then! Problem solved! :rotfl2:
Hope one of the 9 kids are around my sons age, because he is an only child, but very social! We love to meet people at WDW! :teeth:

ok, beca you have got to be kidding!! how many times has B3 and his friend hijacked threads and done NOTHING but insult, insinuate, and criticize others?? you know what? i agree with the "not nice" person that wrote that. i know that i, along with MANY people (and no i am not going to "tabulate", i have gotten numerous PMs from people that are just as sick of the 2 of them as i am) are sooo tired of hearing all the SSR bashing, insults to the owners, our intelligence, having what we "need" thrown down our throats. believe it or not, not all DVC owners need "THEME", characters, 1200 people-filled pools, room service (never!!!), valet, indoor halls, BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! i am soooo glad that SSR people are sticking up for our home. i'm sick and tired of going on a thread and seeing the same old BS over and over. and poll after poll of "who hates ssr?" "who wants to blow up ssr?" "who wants ssr to have personal butt wiping service?". god people - grow up, get a hobby, and plain old just get a life already!!!!!! it seems the ssr owners, (minus mr. #1 troublemaker D), have so much other useful stuff to do with our lives than sit around, bash other people, their preferences, their home resorts, the cars they drive, the clothes they wear, count how many times they did this or that, BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!! honestly, that is what the constant SSR owners think when they read your threads!! and i know bc 42.9% of the 1000 people at 56.7839797% of the 400 times the 23423432% told me so!!!!! and to the person that said "just don't go", i salute you!!!!!! :thumbsup2 HAVE A MAGICAL DAY :wizard: :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

I actually got a great chuckle out of it. Just like the whole thread has had me in stiches. If I didn't find so much humor in it, I would be quite put off with the anti-SSR feelings being shouted from the roof top. It is one thing to know that SSR is not for you, it is quite another thing to start crusades to change the resort that I love the most.

But really Beca, there are no hard feelings. It is my desire to spread the word that SSR owners need to stay at their resort, and not take the opinions of people they have never met scare them away from their purchase. I personally do not understand why someone would buy something they didn't like. It down right baffles me. :confused3 Forget the 12 years. It's thousands of dollars. But JMHO of course.

Good luck to all the BCV, etc owners. I really have been able to peep into why you are worried. It is fun to add on extra days, upgrade at the last minute, and I would be peeved too if it was happening at my resort.

Now, a Popeyes drive thru? Rock on! DVC must have gotten my letter! :smokin:

btw, Beca, great idea about the thread. I always thought it would be a good idea, and wondered why the DIS didn't have one. :)

fishermouse says :Take out taxi delivers from a huge selection of offsite resturants and is probably cheaper than room service..
What is take out taxi may I ask ?
I agree regular room service at a hotel can be very pricey. In a way, it would be nice if OKW/SSR had it though, because most people don't know about offsite delivery so they're left with no options. You most likely won't see it posted in the OKW/SSR newsletter you get at check-in and the front desk CM won't mention it either. Here is one of the places we use at OKW and they have really good sandwhiches, salads, soups and also pizza : http://www.giordanos.com/
I post this when room service discussions come up from time to time. It's a nice option to have and we've used them several times. I just don't understand why these resorts can't offer room service automatically ? Disney is losing alot of money from us folks who use Giodanos and other offsite places---you would think they'd want to keep the money in the wdw circle ? I own an offsite timeshare which has 2 full service restaurants and a Pizza Hut on property. The resort is set up just like OKW/SSR and they (Vistana) offer room service for a $3 delivery fee. The delivery person rides around and delivers the food via a golf cart---seems to work out fine for Vistana. I just don't know why disney doesn't do this---I'm sure there are alot of people who don't know about the offsite delivery & would love this option from time to time.

As for the carts that take people to their rooms, yes, OKW does use golf carts for those that don't have cars or who use ME etc. OKW/SSR also have bellhops which has also been brought up in the "deluxe discussions".

As for the walking to the parks vs the walking to the pool....I agree with what someone else posted. Don't see any difference. It's like a major perk/bonus for some to be able to walk 10-20 to Epcot/MGM in the heat/rain etc....but gosh forbid they have a 4-6 min walk to the pool. People give various reasons for the differences in these two scenarios, but I will never see it. I respect everyone's opinion, but sometimes the things I read just seem like a convenient rationale on their parts (not trying to single anyone out as everyone has their own preferences....some reasonings I just find weaker than others & the walking debate is one of them). But to each his own
