Why must the character breakfasts be so rushed?

One of the most common complaints I read here and on trip reports is the rushed nature of the character breakfasts. We were just going to skip it, but that morning we were all up so we went. It was so rushed, barely enough time to hug each character, and everyone, servers, characters and their "keeper" and passengers ended up testy and exhausted. I'm a pretty fast photographer, and a veteran of many park character breakfasts, but every one of the few pictures I did manage to snap were lousy. Why the rushed nature? What sort of scheduling problems are behind the rush? Does anyone know? Can anyone suggest a way to extend the breakfasts so they are really worth attending?

abitjaded,
Did you have early or late seating for Breakfast? We had late seating and altho we had 1 photo rushed (Chip had to get to the show they do). The rest spent plenty of time with us. There were 4 of us and 3 cameras. Maybe the late seating was a little better for that.

We had first seating and I did not feel at all rushed at the character breakfast. I think I went through a whole roll of film that morning. They stopped to sign autographs, posed for pictures. One of our best momento photoes came from the character breakfast. I wonder if being the first character breakfast of the cruise had anything to do with it?

We were the second seating a few weeks ago and I know why we were rushed. We were in Parrot Cay and they had to get the lunch buffet set up. Ours was at 9:45 and they were very rushed with us. They wanted us out of there basically by 10:30 so they could set up for lunch. Remember now - they have to take the tablecloths off, put the ones on for lunch, replate, reutensil, and reglass all the tables. Well maybe not replate but they were putting new utensils and glasses on the tables that had left before us. I think it was way too rushed though and they were very testy. I don't think ANY character breakfasts should be done in Parrot Cay.

I am going to be writing DCL regarding some other things and this was one of the items I was going to put in my letter.

We had second seating at Parrot Cay for our character breakfast and we didn't feel rushed. We had a very nice time and great photos of us and characters-I much perfer it to the mad rush in the atrium. Joan
