Why mess wih a classic???

I guess I am one of the few who enjoyed the Jim Carrey version. I liked how the dialogue was directly from the book.

But then again, I love ANY version of this story. Does anyone remember the Mr. Magoo version?

...my favorite Scrooge is Magoo.....love this song; it reminds me of when I was younger:

I love this one, too. It just wasn't christmas when I was a kid 'til we saw this one! My favorite is the musical version with Albert Finney, though. "Thank ya very much, Thank ya very much, that's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me...."
I think all of the versions bring something to the table and I enjoy watching all of them...I haven't seen Jim Carrey's yet, though. :goodvibes

I just saw the Muppet version which I thought was awful. and I love the Muppets.

This is such a classic you are going to see it continue to be remade. My personal favorite is the musical version from the 70s with Albert Finney.

Now why they needed to remake True Grit? Who the heck knows.

I know! Now that's a classic, but I was just shocked at how many people in my office haven't seen it. The trailer for the new one looks good, I'm trying to have an open mind.

I loved Jim Carrey's version in 3 D. Saw it last year and thoroughly enjoyed it.

For serious Scrooge, the Patrick Stewart version is our absolute favorite. :)

Patrick Stewart did "A Christmas Carol" as a one-man-show on Broadway quite a few years ago ... I have the audio-version of it; it's excellent.

Normally, I'd agree with the OP. Some movies are so good there should never be a remake. However, A Christmas Carol has been done and redone so many times, it doesn't bother me. I like many versions. The TBS version with Patrick Stewart is my personal favorite but I love the Muppet version, too. Both excellent!

I haven't seen the one with Patrick Stewart and now I really want to. is it on DVD?

My favorite is the 1984 George C Scott version personally.:thumbsup2

We just watched the Jim Carrey version. In some parts it was almost word for word the same script as the George C Scott version (which is also my favorite). The Jim Carrey version seemed to scrimp on the Tiny Tim plot line (or maybe I dozed through it).

Personally, my favorite is The Muppet Christmas Carol, followed by the Patrick Stewart version.

I think having something beconsidered a classic is a good thing - but it doesn't mean that the story can't be re-interpreted in my opinion. Think about musicians who cover other people's songs, or cars - like the VW Beetle that has continued to be developed and sold?

I'll always return to things I consider to be classics but it shouldn't stop me from a little fun in the future either. Just my thoughts. :goodvibes
