Why I don't want to stay in a Value Resort!!!

Personally, I'm not down for either values or deluxes. I really love the mods and couldn't see myself wanting to stay anywhere else. I find the deluxe resorts to be too expensive for the amount of time I want to be there. For me, it's just not worth it. As for the values, there are certain things that they don't have that I want. After a long day in the park I want to change into my suit and go sit in the hot tub with the jets massaging my aching feet. The fact that the mods are more spread out appeals to me as well. Even with hundreds of cheerleaders staying there in February we could walk around the resort in the evenings or early mornings and not encounter more than a handful of people. Of course they were concentrated in the food court and shop areas, but that was not the fault of the resort. Had I known they would have been there I would have made our vacation for a different week and it might have been better.

I'm not incredibly well off, being a singe parent, but I will save up to stay in a mod. I figure if I can justify spending that kind of money to fly across the country for a vacation I can fork over a bit more to stay in the resort that I prefer. Also I find that with the discounts available I don't come off too bad. I think that if I had gone to WDW when my kids were smaller we probably would have stayed in values because of the themes, they seem to be geared more toward families with young children whereas the mod themes are a bit more mature.

My one deluxe exception would be the Grand Floridian. I would love to stay there on a solo trip (my kids think it's too stuffy) or with adult friends.

Well, I have a complete different opinion, but it's as much the truth of how I feel as anyone who has posted here. We have a Class A MH and have stayed in Fort Wilderness since they opened (not always in MH's, started in VW camper, then trailers). But my dh & I would not trade our "lodging" for anything else available at WDW - right, not even the GF. We are very happy with our bed, and our own living quarters, don't have to unpack, have available snack if we want, but I don't cook at Disney. We made ressies one year at a value with Dining, then began to hear all the stories about the thin walls, kids running around all hours of the night, early mornings, all the groups choosing the values, crowded food court, etc. So, we cancelled our ressies and that has been the end of "not driving the MH down" for one trip to see what it would be like to stay in a hotel at Disney. We're very happy and have a great location with great transportation. I hear people on the Dis complaining about their hotel stays, from value to deluxe, even club level, so we'll save ourselves that hassle. :goodvibes I don't think we would enjoy any of them, and we're not snobs, just like quietness when we want it. We do love to go to a lot of the hotels and walk around and eat. Our favorite for ambiance is the FQ - just love those grounds - maybe because I was raised not far from NOLA.

OP here, wow, I can't believe how defensive people can get about hotel rooms!!!
I don't know why so many people have to call people "snobs" if they only want to stay in deluxe hotels and don't like value hotels. Lighten up people, each one of us have a right to our own "opinions". I don't attack people for liking value hotels. I just personally think they have a certain "look" to them that makes them very unappealing. We do spend time at our resort because we don't go comando and from all the pictures I have seen the buildings just look big and plain and concrete. Remember, that is "my opinion and feelings about the resorts". If someone doesn't want to visit disney unless they can stay in a deluxe hotel, why does that make them and uppidy snob? That's just their preference and what they enjoy on "their" vacation. Wow, there's alot of uptight people in this world. To most of you who gave your advice, thanks. Think we'll stay with CSR because I don't think I will like AOA, but I am sure most of you will love it, enjoy!!!

I think many posters came to the defense of value resorts because of the Super 8 and concrete jungle references made in your first post which in many ways hold certain implications, particularly when you stated you've never actually stayed at a value resort. Anyway, enjoy your stay at Coronado Springs and have a magical vacation :)

Yeah I'm the person that said I would'nt stay in a value. I have to laugh at the "Super 8" comments. I have stayed in them many times and even.... gasp motel 6. There really not that bad. I spent 2 weeks in a Super 8 in Boise, Idaho when I was there showing horses. I have slummed it in some pretty bad hotels in Mexico and South America. I love to travel. I will pretty much stay anywhere. At Disney I need my Deluxe resort. Maybe I don't love Disney enough to sacrafice that. :confused3
And that's great...for you. But a deluxe doesn't always meet the needs of all guests. Perhaps there are guests who actually prefer the value resorts. I know many people that love these resorts, and stay there often, even though they can more than afford a deluxe resort.
It's got nothing to do with 'sacrifice'...it's about what each person needs and wants in a vacation. You don't want to stay in a value resort..fine. No one is forcing you to. Stay in a deluxe resort..up to you.
But no one should be made to feel lesser because of their choice of resorts. Have you all noticed that ALL room keys are the same..with the exception of concierge room keys???? They all look exactly the same, and no resort name is on them. There is a code for the resort on it, but to the untrained eye, it is not easily apparent. Disney want's everyone to feel equally valued as a guest once they leave their resort. No one gets to look down their nose at another guest because of where they are staying.
Perhaps we should take a page from that book.

I guess it all comes down to personal experiences with the various resorts. As I said the S & D are both very nice. I actually prefer the S over the D and have heard many people state the exact opposite. :rolleyes1

I have stayed at both S & D more than half a dozen times and have stayed in resort rooms (not DVC) at all the deluxe resorts except GF. I would take all of those accommodations first if offered at the same price as a room at S or D.

Just my opinion. Which often doesn't matter to anyone but me!

And you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. As am I. And I have to tell you......if BWV had the same beds, and bedding, and the toiletries, that the S/D had, BWV would be perfect for me!!! And I already love it there. But, my stays at the Dolphin (I prefer the Dolphin to the Swan for various reasons), have been more relaxing and overall pleasant than at WDW owned deluxe resorts...DVC and non-DVC. But, there are amenities at a WDW owned resort that can really add to the experience. It all depends on what you want.

No one is forcing anyone to stay at any level of resort. The vast majority of posters who feel that they want to stay in only a deluxe resort have been very polite. If that's how they choose to spend their money, who are others to say they shouldn't??? But, then again, there is no reason for those 'deluxe' vacationers to come back here and cast aspersions upon those who choose to stay at a value resort. To each his own. You won't ever find me at the GF....it completely turns me off. I would much rather stay at the Dolphin..even if the GF were the exact same price as the Dolphin!!! I don't think the values are concrete jungles...not even remotely. They are bright, vibrant, fun resorts. Not for everyone, but many love these resorts.

hmm...I really didn't think anyone on this thread was making anyone feel "lesser" for staying in a value. Maybe staying in a value would be a "sacrafice' for me, and it would. That's how I feel for "me personally". I never implied it would be for someone else. What makes you think by my post that I walk around looking down my nose at people? Honestly how did you read that into my post?

I am starting to remember why I stopped posting in these kind of discussions. Everything you say gets misinterpreted. Then I get scolded for saying something that was not even remotely close to what I said.

I personally, just don't see the point in driving unless you are driving a Ferrari Enzo. Just my personal opinion. I just would not drive if I couldn't drive a Ferrari Enzo. Toyotas and Kias just look like uncomfortable traps with those cloth seats and cheap looking decor. But that is just my opinion. Please don't be offended. :rotfl2:

BTW, just to be clear, that was meant as a joke. And to point out how silly this thread has gotten.

Reasons to stay value:

-You can stay twice as long for the same $

-They are fun for little kids - they love the giant Disney characters and Lego pieces

-If you spend most of your time in the parks, especially parks not on the monorail.

-Disney treats you the same as long as you stay on property.

All the resorts are so great, and it's awesome that we get to choose the atmosphere and location we want! :goodvibes

I don't think anyone sounded "snobby" on here, We personally like to stay Deluxe but I REALLY have to save for it and will only go during FD promotions!!! We really dont travel much, so when we do, we want to stay at whatever resort appeals mostly to us. I really like the idea of staying at a value for longer than a week, but I can't get off of work for that long :sad1:

Bottom line everyone has different ideas of how they like to spend their vacation, what they want to do on vacation and where they want to stay when on their vacation! The important thing is that we are spending time with our loved ones in a place that we all love! While I like the Deluxes its not really what I remeber when I come home, it's the smile on my 3 y/o's face when she hugged Mickey that I remember!

I love this. We have 10 nights booked as ASMu, 2 rooms. We cold not go for this long if we were paying deluxe prices.

We have stayed all levels, and find that each resort has its own special place:cloud9:

Our kids, even the 19 yo prefers the values for the fun they offer. Fully submersed in Disney fun.

As for the grounds. We have found that the grounds and landscaping are beautiful anywhere at WDW.

The CM are amazing at all levels. We had the BEST Mousekeepers ever while staying at the POP. They were so amazing that I contacted WDW guest relations upon coming home to tell them how great they were. I even received a phone call from guest relations letting me know that they were letting the mousekeepers know how great they were.

Our goal as to many, is one day to have stayed at all the different resorts. But for this trip, our longest will be 10 nights, and we are probably going to add 1 more to make it 11! We could not afford this staying deluxe.

AOA is going to look very much like the other value resorts. If you don't like the appearance of the value resorts you will not like the appearance of AOA.

I like Pop Century for my weekend trips. But my weekend trips are not like the trips taken by those who love to hang around their resort and want a more attractive resort. Literally it is a place to sleep because I am going to go do stuff at the parks/restaurants till late. I'm not into swimming or lounging, just get me on a bus back when it's time to sleep.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent...

BTW, just to be clear, that was meant as a joke. And to point out how silly this thread has gotten.

Look, honestly, who cares? Seriously. It works better for all parties involved that some people, like myself, don't want to stay at a value, and some people who stay at a value don't want to stay deluxe, for whatever reason. All that chalks up to is more room at the inn for people in both catagories. If you stay at Pop or All Stars and love it, great. Who cares about what people staying at the deluxe properties think? And vice versa, I only want to stay deluxe, I don't give a hoot if people who stay in a value think that makes me a snob. We can each enjoy our vacations on our own set budget.

I don't see anyone here being snobby or looking down upon anyone, I see some people taking offense to the fact that people wouldn't consider staying where they normally stay. If you feel that way, thats your own problem, not theirs.

I only read a small portion of the thread, and I think it's ridiculous. Who cares where anyone stays? I prefer Value, we've only stayed at Pop and have zero desire to stay elsewhere. The values are not comparable to a Super 8.

To my knowledge - I don't think Pop takes tour groups of wild kids. They haven't been there any time that I have gone to Pop, and if they are -- I will be OUT of there.

I don't think Pop does either. My daughter's dance school is going next year and I've been researching our options and the only resorts available for them are the All Stars. It's causing me great problems because I really want to stay at Pop but the group has to all stay together.

OP, I think what first set people off on this thread was the title, "Why I don't want to stay in a Value Resort!!!" Many people love the values and feel insulted by them being called concrete jungles and Super 8s. I get what you're saying to some extent, but I also understand why people got a bit defensive. What were you looking for when you originally posted? Did you want people to try to convince you that values aren't that bad or did you want people to commiserate with you that they suck? I am not being snarky, really. I am just curious.

I can't believe I am even posting on here again. I really don't care that much about this topic. Like I said in my 1st post on here, we usually stay in mods, but are trying AOA out this time. I really don't have any loyalty to the values or the mods. :)

We have been to WDW four times and have always stayed at Pop and have no desire to stay at any other resort. To me, only the Values make me feel like I am at Disney. The mods and deluxes just don't have that Disney feel to them. If I was booking our next trip and Pop was full, I would stay at one of the All Stars - it makes me feel like I am at Disney 24/7 . If I was anywhere besides Disney, I would stay at one of the mods of deluxe. Maybe it's that the mods and deluxes are too much like real life and the Values are like a make believe world :confused3 I don't know. All I know is that I wouldn't trade Pop Century for the world.:thumbsup2
