Why do people have to park next to you?

I believe that the people who go out of their way to park next to you in a relatively empty lot are the same people who have to sit right next to you, like in an empty movie theater or fast food restaurant.

Equally as annoying, except worse in the parking lot since there can be damage done to property.

I just like to imagine the look on the retentive persons face when they come out and see my car. Silly I know. But it still makes me giggle.

Yah....I kind of get a kick out of pushing 'retentive' ppl's buttons too.

I feel like telling them to go live by themselves in the country. Then someone would probably move next to them.

Sucks having to share the planet.

Just wanted to point out that I didn't see anything in any of your posts that indicated you advocated damaging another persons property or that you would ever praise your children for doing so. That was an unfair judgment about your character.

An adult that admits to doing petty things to people just to piss them off? Sounds like a lack of character to me.

I really don't want to be rude, but are you kidding????? I would have been a lot less polite to you than this person was. It's a public parking area and everyone has every right to park where ever they choose. I think you were the one completely out of line

I agree. I would have written back, "Am I being punked?" :lmao:

MTE

I guess I am just not the type to go out of my way to piss innocent strangers off. It just strikes me as really ignorant. I save it for people who have actually affected my life.

At work we have a very large parking lot in the back of the building. Think of it as a 4 box grid. Two boxes at the bottom are closest to the building and then the 2 boxes in the back are farther away. The right side of the grid is where the majority of the cars park since it is closest to the entrance. I park in the farthest spot away from the building. No one has EVER parked that far away. I park in that same area everyday and it is always unoccupied.

One day I look outside and see a car parked RIGHT NEXT to mine. There are literally 40 spots all around my car that are open. So what do I do? I track him down. I send him an email asking him WHY in the world would he park right next to me with all the available spots. He says, as others have mentioned here, that he doesn't want his car getting dinged and he figured neither did I since I park that far away. So I replied back saying that I understood that but why all of a sudden do you park there when you haven't for the past 2 years and why do you have to park in the spot RIGHT NEXT to mine? No response. He hasn't parked there since. And now, I straddle the line so if someone does park next to me, there is ample space on both sides. :goodvibes

That is absolutely crazy! It's a public parking lot. If I got a e-mail like that I'd respond with some choice words. :rolleyes1

Happened today:headache: and yes I do park way out in the lot because I like my vehicles and want them to stay nice as long as they can. I actually park next to those little islands in the lots where they plant shrubs or trees, I get as close to the curb as I can there is usually 3 feet between the side of my car and the white line. Today I did this and came out and someone was right on top of my car so close they were in my space! I couldnt open my doors and had to climb across the back seat to get my DD's seat in the base. I am sorry but someone that does this is ignorant!

I have had something similar happen. I came out of the Dr's. office one day to find that someone had parked so close to my van that I couldn't get into it, it was literally 6 in. away. I was dead center in the middle of the space and when I parked there I had lots of space between me and the car that was there when I got there. How the hell they managed to get that close without scraping the side of my van I do not know. :confused3 I had to climb through the passenger side to get in.

Then why not say that? Instead you took it a step further and said this:

"I imagine that would give you a chuckle as well. Probably would even praise your kids for doing so"

Which, IMO, was a petty statement intended to piss her off.

Are you serious?!?! This is a bit ridiculous!

No wait, this is just insane!

It makes me chuckle. Are you saying it's wrong? How dare you!

Omgosh this totally irks me.

Are you driving a solid gold car? I can't imagine getting this upset about a foolish parking space. He probably stopped parking there because he thought you were crazy and he was scared, I would be.

Are you kidding? I would have printed it out, hung it on my desk, and had a good laugh!

:rotfl: Uh, huh.

I get a new car every 2 years and while they are nice when they're new, wear and tear is inevitable. I can't imagine getting upset because someone parks next to you. Life is too short.

This is maybe the rudest thing that I've heard of someone doing(sending the email). By the way, parking over the line just ticks people off and makes them want to squeeze their car as close to you as they can. Good luck with that!

God knows they had it coming since they so rudely parked away from the inconsiderate folks who can't open a car door with banging the one next to them. :sad2:

Why is that? Why can't people open their doors without flinging them into the car next to them....especially when that other car is well within the lines and no where near theres.

I don't park far away to protect my car. Just the opposite. When I get a new car, I wait for it to get "dinged," it's like a rite of passage here in NJ. Your very first ding. You utter a few choice curse words, and then you get over it. And then you don't worry so much about where you park. :rotfl:

Two weeks was all it took for some jerk in a red car to put a ding in my white car.

Yeah whats wrong with wanting some space?!?! The world is big so take two steps away from me please. ;) My personal favorite is the person in line behind you when you are checking out at the store that thinks if they stand close enough you can feel them breathing that thats ok. :sad2: :headache:

Maybe they check out the damage they have done, look to see if anybody noticed, and then if the coast is clear, get a good chuckle out of it. :confused3

Not long ago we were coming back to our car after doing some shopping at the mall to watch a little girl in the car next to ours fling the door open all the way right into our rear quarter panel.

I approached the driver of the car and asked what she was going to do about the damage she had just done our car. Of course the first thing she tried to do was deny, deny, deny. Then I made it clear we had both just watched her do it and I would be happy to show her how the damage on her door perfectly matched up to what her girl just did to our car. If necessary we could get the cops out to do the same comparison.

At that point she actually switched the argument to "her girl is too young to stop the door, it's not her fault."

Some people... :sad2:

Then the emails seemed to have worked, didn't they?

When this situation happens to me, I turn around and ask the person to please step back and give me some personal space. It seems to do the trick.
