Why do people have to park next to you?

I don't really give it any thought. I park where I choose to park, just like anyone else does. I pick my theatre seat, the same way. I choose a seat I want to sit in and I sit in it. We like to be in the center. So do a lot of people. with stadium seating it doesn't matter if someone sits in front of you.

Omgosh this totally irks me.

At work we have a very large parking lot in the back of the building. Think of it as a 4 box grid. Two boxes at the bottom are closest to the building and then the 2 boxes in the back are farther away. The right side of the grid is where the majority of the cars park since it is closest to the entrance. I park in the farthest spot away from the building. No one has EVER parked that far away. I park in that same area everyday and it is always unoccupied.

One day I look outside and see a car parked RIGHT NEXT to mine. There are literally 40 spots all around my car that are open. So what do I do? I track him down. I send him an email asking him WHY in the world would he park right next to me with all the available spots. He says, as others have mentioned here, that he doesn't want his car getting dinged and he figured neither did I since I park that far away. So I replied back saying that I understood that but why all of a sudden do you park there when you haven't for the past 2 years and why do you have to park in the spot RIGHT NEXT to mine? No response. He hasn't parked there since. And now, I straddle the line so if someone does park next to me, there is ample space on both sides. :goodvibes

I really don't want to be rude, but are you kidding????? I would have been a lot less polite to you than this person was. It's a public parking area and everyone has every right to park where ever they choose. I think you were the one completely out of line

I sort of get a chuckle out of parking right next to one of those cars bacause I know how it makes DH crazy, and I get a sick little chuckle out of doing it to others.

Why am I not surprised. :sad2:

Hey that parking spot next to the car on the other side of the lot is fair game like the rest of them.

I just don't understand why someone would park their car way over there to draw attention to the fact that they don't want anything to happen to it. Seems to me they are just asking for some idiot teenager or hoodlem to key it. Especially the ones that park diagnally and take up 2 spots when the rest of the lot is full. Seems dumb to me.

I would never harm someones property. I just get a teeny chuckle parking next to it.

I agree with everything you said.

Hey he didn't have to move and I never told him NOT to park near me. It was his decision to move and it was his decision not to park near me. I just asked him why he had to park right next to me. I paid a lot of money for my car and there is a damn good reason why I park so far away. When you park so close that my passenger cannot get into my car, that is rude. Had he parked there again there probably would have been some dings on his car and yes I would have done it.

I imagine that would give you a chuckle as well. Probably would even praise your kids for doing so. :rolleyes1

God knows they had it coming since they so rudely parked away from the inconsiderate folks who can't open a car door with banging the one next to them. :sad2:

So, you'd commit a crime because someone parked legally in a parking space next to your car?

Don't be surprised if its your car that they end up keying one day.

If they park so close that the door cannot open, that is not parking legally. If the door happens to hit the car next to it when opening because they did not know how to park, not my fault.

I agree with Jennifer48 and here's why. In the front of my apartment I have two spaces that are dedicated to me. I came home one night and there was a car parked in one of my spaces. I parked in the other space that was mine, but kinda close to the line, just to let them know i was upset. I came out 2 hours later and there was a 2 foot long gash in the roof of my convertible.

Clearly they did not have any respect for me and it was my spots. So if you are intentionally trying to give yourself the room and its obvious why you are doing it and some other car where there is lots of room to park, parks right on top of you, I think you have the right to be upset, public parking lot or not.

It's called having respect, which many people in this world do not have.

I don't park far away to protect my car. Just the opposite. When I get a new car, I wait for it to get "dinged," it's like a rite of passage here in NJ. Your very first ding. You utter a few choice curse words, and then you get over it. And then you don't worry so much about where you park. :rotfl:

I park far away because I get a little exercise walking and I don't have to worry about someone waiting for my parking space. I can take all the time I want loading my car.

I have to admit that when my car is brand new, to keep my husband quiet (because he cares more about the cars than I do), I will look for the most expensive car to park next to for the first couple of weeks. I will avoid parking next to any junks. I figure that the owner of the expensive car wants to keep it nice and will be careful when opening his doors.

Did you ever go into a huge empty parking lot, park in a spot that's the farthest away from everything, come out and there's a freaking car parked on top of you? Meanwhile, there's still hundreds of other spots available all around where they could have parked?

This happened to me yesterday. There were tons of empty spaces and this person has to park right next to me. So close that I couldn't get in my other door. This was at an off time so I know when I went into the store, lots of people didn't come and go while I was there, and that's why this person parked the car next to me.

Did this ever happen to you when you go to the beach? The whole beach can be empty and a person will put their chair, towel, blanket right there pratically on top of you. You have the whole beach to yourself and you have to be on top of us?

How about in an empty movie theater? A person will plop down directly in front of you (and they are usually 7 feet tall with big hair) when they have the whole row to themself. Can't you sit one seat over so you don't block the person that's behind you's view? (Thank God for stadium seating in the newer theaters.)

Why do people do this? Are they lonely? :confused3

I agree with you. It's very annoying. I'm a person who will go out of my way to avoid being right next to somebody.

I used to work in an office and would go out to get lunch a lot. I'd get something and sit in my car and eat in peace and quiet, listening to the radio, reading, whatever. It constantly amazed me how many times I would park my car far, far away from anybody else, at the far edge of the parking lot and people just HAD to drive by me realllllllly slow to see what I was doing. They would literally drive out of their way to go by me, obviously checking me out, then circle back and find a spot closer to the building. At first it was annoying, then I became amused by it. I think a lot of people are just plain nosy.

I thought perhaps I misread your posts, so I went and reread. You didn't mention in your first post that he parked so close that you couldn't open the door. And in your second post, you only said he was close to your passenger side door. However, how close could it have been if he had to get out of his driver side door? Unless he backed in? Then, the situation of the passenger could be resolved by simply pulling out of the spot before the passenger got in the car.

And you said this, "Had he parked there again there probably would have been some dings on his car and yes I would have done it.", which is a totally different statement than this, "If the door happens to hit the car next to it when opening because they did not know how to park, not my fault." The latter of which I agree with, if it accidentally (key word there) happens because someone parks too close to you then it's too bad for them.

Don't get me wrong, it irritates the hell out of me when people park so close to my driver side door that I can't get in. And I think it's odd that he parked right next to you, but I don't agree with purposely vandalizing his car because of it.

What? no, someone sproperty being damaged would not give me a chuckle. And where the heck do you come up with me praising my kids for committing a crime? Parking next to a car (not even close to it, just next to it) does not justify you saying stuff like that to me.

Jennifer48 is the  that is not above damaging someones car, read her posts.

Happened today:headache: and yes I do park way out in the lot because I like my vehicles and want them to stay nice as long as they can. I actually park next to those little islands in the lots where they plant shrubs or trees, I get as close to the curb as I can there is usually 3 feet between the side of my car and the white line. Today I did this and came out and someone was right on top of my car so close they were in my space! I couldnt open my doors and had to climb across the back seat to get my DD's seat in the base. I am sorry but someone that does this is ignorant!

I do this as well. And yes, then sometimes somebody feels it's necessary to park right next to your car rather than in the middle of the next space. Sometimes there really is nothing you can do to avoid the idiots in the world. :sad2:

Just wanted to point out that I didn't see anything in any of your posts that indicated you advocated damaging another persons property or that you would ever praise your children for doing so. That was an unfair judgment about your character.
