Why Do people Hate Minivans So Much?

Must be one that says "oh look at me, I'm young and fit" :rolleyes1

Apparently only Mom's who wear sweats and don't care about their appearances drive Mini-vans :confused3

I'd rather drive a Mini -van and be comfortable then try to squeeze into something for the sake of keeping up with appearances :rolleyes1

Apparently driving a Mini-Van means you need a makeover :rotfl:

But not me......I'm fit and fabulous and foxy when I rock my Mini-Van ;)

I guess I didn't get the memo...I drive a Jeep and I can frequently be seen in my sweats dropping off my kids or going to/from the gym.:confused3 Half the time when I drop the twins off they're lucky I have shoes on!:rotfl:

Also...I don't know if it is because I live in a military town or what, but there are a TON of younger, HOT wives/moms with vans. The lady across the street from me is a dead ringer for Jessica Biel, with the body to match. She drive a big 'ol red minivan, complete with the family member stickers.

I'v been on both end having had a minivan for 4 years and then switching to an SUV (Hyundai Santa Fe) 2 years ago. I HATED having a minivan and could not wait to get rid of it, it was great for long trips but other then that there was nothing positive that stood out about my experience, it was a pig on gas, hard to park at times and just annoyed me. We have 2 kids and switched to the SUV and am so glad that we did!!!! It's great on gas and not as big and "bulky" we have a ton of trunk space and even took a 20 hour trip last summer with plenty of room. We are expecting our 3rd child in April and are sticking with the SUV since there is plenty of room for all 3 kids in the back. No more minivans for this mom!!!!

I hate minivans and I would never drive one. In fact, I had to rent one in Florida last year because we had to many people for a car and I hated every moment in it.

I think they are ugly, boring and SLOW. We have a joke in our family that everytime traffic is going slow for no apparent reason we yell "minivan!" and 98% of the time when you finally are able to speed past that SLOW moving car in the left lane, it is a minivan.

I also have no idea what happens to people when they drive them, It always seems like minivans are all over the road, going really slow and have no concept of anyone around them. I don't know if it is the size or what the deal is.

Exactly!!! Why do you care about looking "cool" when you're 30-40-50? I thought we as adults were over that. :rotfl:>>>> I still wanna look cool and im in my 30's. Lol.

I'm one in that thread that said I will never buy a minivan. And I won't. :)

To me, they are the epitome of "momdom" and are totally un-hip. I have no interest in driving one.

My 7 passenger crossover is perfect for my family ~ and it still looks cool. :rotfl:
>>>> This! :thumbsup2:laughing:

Mini vans are fugly, HUGE (hard to park), a pig on gas, and really slow. I have ZERO interest in driving one and going thru that nonsense again.

When I was a teen I swore I would never drive a mini van. Guess what? I am on my third one. I love my Sienna. It is quite nice and well-equipped, and it is functional for me at this point in my life. I love being able to lug lots of kids around (I am a Girl Scout leader and my kids play hockey) with all their stuff.

I didn't always drive a minivan. DH and I had a couple of sporty cars when we were first married. But right now my life is all about my girls, so my car is all about them, too. Someday when my life does not center around taking kids to dances and driving to family vacations, I will have a "cooler" car again, and I plan to have many years to drive it.

My take on this is: If comedians start making fun of SUVs, is everyone going to think they aren't "cool" and stop driving them? So silly! I really feel sorry for people whose self-worth is so tied up in "things." It makes absolutely no difference what you drive if it is what works for you and your family. (And people who judge others by what they drive aren't who I want for friends anyway!)

No mini-van for me. They have really come a long way (I often eye my friend's black Nissan) but I just can't do it.

I always said I would never live in the burbs and drive a mini-van. Well, sure enough I live smack dab in the middle of suburbia. But, I drive a Pathfinder with my Mickey stick figure family on the back.

A nice compromise. :)

Someone on here said mini-vans are 'mom mobiles" or something. That's how I see SUVs now too. SUVS are definately mom mobiles almost as much as minivans.

Plain and simple - they aren't cool;)

I mean no offense to anyone by saying this, but the people who worry about what is cool, aren't cool! By the very nature of "cool", you can't want it if you are IT!

Think about the things that are cool now, were they the things that were once cool? Nope! They are the things that some "cool" person (or people) decided they liked, and everyone who wanted to be like that person (or those people) decided that they liked it too, because it is SO cool!!!!

A nerd used to be uncool. Today? A nerd is SUPER cool! Hipsters everywhere try hard to get that nerdy, I don't care about being cool, I'm too ironic for my own good trend just right.

Minivans may not be cool...but it's much less cool to try and be cool. That's the un-coolest thing a cool person can do. Cool?

I love my minivan. It's the second one I've had, and I love this one even more than the last. I don't understand why the people who choose SUV's over minivans because they don't want a "mom mobile" don't realize that SUV's are now just as much of a mom mobile as a minivan.

Especially when they put the "look how great my kid is" bumper stickers on there along with the decals depicting the family members right down to the animals. ;)

To those that say mini vans are slow? Really? Don't tell that to my speeding ticket loving husband. I manage to get that sucker moving pretty fast on our road trips..you won't see me slowing down traffic, weaving..or whatever. I know how to drive and it doesn't matter what vehicle you're in.

If people would drive without texting or talking on the phone or whatever else those other people are doing they would most likely be driving a whole lot better. But those distractions happen in any kind of car not just vans. I seem to get slowed down the most by the plain old sedan type car, and I hate slow pokes no matter what kind of car they are in.

Count me in as a minivan lover. We're on our third minivan now, this time a Sienna and we love it. Honestly I have always thought that SUVs, and now especially the crossovers, looked so much more like the station wagons of the 70s in every way than any minivan did.. Long hood, 4 doors, hatch in the back. My brother has a Traverse and while they are nice, it is SO hard to get into the back seat, and forget about the third row. I had to sit back in the third row once and I almost needed a crane to get me out! :rotfl2:

Many of the very things people dislike about the minivan are the same reasons I love mine. LOVE the sliding doors, absolutely love them and they are a major reason for buying. Not only do they stop the kids from throwing the door open in the garage and dinging the car next to it, it makes climbing into the back of the van easy. Also love the cargo area behind the third row, it's actually usable with the third row up. We looked at some Crossovers before we bought our third van and wow, with the third row up, there was not very much room. We took our Sienna to Disney World last year with 6 people in it, 4 adults and two kids and we had room to spare. Folded down 1/3 of the back seat and got two weeks worth of luggage in the car, with the 6 people. Also the power on the Sienna is great, with the smooth Lexus/Toyota engine with 275 horsepower. It makes me laugh when I remember the Camaro IROC-Z I drove in the late 80s with a 350 engine and only 225 horsepower. My, how times have changed.

Anyway, it's great that we have options. I know a lot of people love their SUVs, but I wouldn't trade our minivan in on one for anything. Cool or not, I love the ride and the functionality.

My dad used to say being subjective will cost you money.

What 6 things are common in a mini-van and a SUV?

4 wheels, steering wheel and an engine.

No mini-vans here either.

I just don't like them. I want something sporty and cool either though I'm 40. :rolleyes1

I drive a BMW now but its getting way too small. DH and I are looking for an SUV. We used to have a Chevy Tahoe before the Beemer.

I only have 2 kids but sometimes carpooling is convenient and a neccessity. I work and DH works shifts so sometimes it can't be helped or the kids miss their activities. Also, if a bunch of us are going from the same place to the same place, why should we all drive? Its easier for the kids to all hop in someone's vehicle and we take turns driving. I agree, the kids love it.

I'm hoping to get a GMC Yukon or Audi Q7. But who knows, I like the Nissan Rogues and Cadillac SRX I think its called. But both of those aren't much bigger than my car.

First of all I want to say: I miss the t tops so much! Anyway, how your mom is now, I can see myself being later on. Was she always into the sportier cars? Or did she just ride in your IROC and take it over?

I just got rid of my BMW because it was too small! I also have 2 kids & if I needed to have a friend or two of theirs in the car, forget it! After having just about every make & model car out there (everything from a ford to a Mercedes) I have finally found 2 that I am absolutely in love with! We now have a Nissan Maxima and a Nissan Rogue. Trust me, the Rogue is bigger than the BMW! It's fantastic!! The Maxima is huge too! Love them both so much!

We have actually never had a minivan and never will. We don't have a need for one.

:rotfl: She just sort of took it over :). It really can only be driven in the summer (gotta love the rear wheel drive with the gatorbacks :)). When I got older and finished university and was not just a student anymore, I needed wheels that were more winter friendly. So I bought a new car and she just started driving it :). She only drives it in the winter and for a 25 year old car only has about 130K KM on it. But she loves it! No a/c, and not the smoothest drive (has as speed shifter in it) but it sure is fun for her! She loves the attention she gets :rotfl2:, no one expects a grey haired lady to come out. Every now and again I grab it and go for a spin and watch the gas tank needle drop :rotfl: .

This is not the car but it is same year and colour:
