Why do people feel so superior because they can spell?

Sure. I should have been more clear. Instead of
I should have said "If it doesn't matter to others that readers be easily able to determine what they are trying to say, well, that's up to those posters".

I may be guilty of it occasionally, but I don't recall correcting other posters' spelling or grammar, especially recently, with the exception noted above (although I see lots of places I could )

But you see MOST of the time what one types can be read and understood. It is not a big deal to me to see if someone misspelled something or made a mistake as long as I can read it and understand it which like I said most of the time it is. If you have a question about what someone is saying, ask "did you mean this" or "I don;t fully understand what are saying" and I'm sure they will clarify it. It doesn;t mean people have to rip apart the poster but simply ask for them to clarify and be done with it. Life is too short for to worry or get upset b/c someone misspelled a word or made a mistake.

When my dd was in grammar school (about 3rd grade) she asked me how to spell a word. I told her to get the dictionary and look it up.

Her reply "if I don't know how to spell it how will I find it in the dictionary?"

Dh and I got a good laugh out of that one.

It may be funny but for me it is true.

I often have no clue how to spell something and a dictionary is useless. I've resorted to synonyms and a thesaurus to find the spelling of the word I'm looking for.

I was looking for a word the other day what started with a P. I forget the exact word. I typed it the way I thought it was spelled and spell check couldn't recognize it. I couldn't figure what came after the P to even begin to look it up. Was it pi? pa? per? pre? I think it ended up being pu, which I didn't even consider. I wish I remember what word it was.
