Why do men like long hair on women and daughters?

My DH likes my hair long but if I wanted to cut it off he wouldn't have a problem with it. Our daughter's hair is sorta long but we trim or cut it regularly to keep it healthy and growing. He has already told me that when I take her to my mom's, mom can only cut 2 inches...okay no big deal.

DH has one brother that his wife got her hair cut and it was shorter than what he liked, he refused to speak to her for a week.

Other brother, has a 2 year old daughter, poor thing has never had a hair cut. And they don't pull it up out of her face at all. We were at her birthday party the other day and it was brought up. Her daddy said he wouldn't allow it to be cut until it reached her bobo. His inlaws agreed. I looked on Facebook later, at the pictures from the party, all of them her head is tilted. The poor child has already learned to keep her head tilted to keep it out of her eyes.

Why are men like this?

(new rule)

Sorry, I am not familiar with the term bobo. What does that mean?

Why are men like this?

Because they're sexist pigs:confused3

Sorry, I know that's not the polite thing to say, but honestly, what kind of jerk wouldn't speak to their wife for a week because they didn't "approve" of how short she got it cut. Or what parent would make their child grow their hair out to their butt??? What a bunch of close-minded idiots.:sad2:

Most men like long hair due to its sexual connotation. That wouldn't explain why they want their daughters' hair long though because most are not happy when their daughters get old enough to attract boys. Does your husband read to your daughter? Maybe it is because the princesses in the fairy tales often have long hair. I have never seen a picture of Snow White with long hair, but I think that she is the exception.

Nothing is worse than to have a wman come in a say, "I'd love to cut my hair short, but my DH would have a fit." Esp. if it is unbecoming on her. Same for little girls. I have never been a fan of little girls with super long hair. Unless it is kept and neat looking (or braided, pulled up somehow) but to leave it stringy and in their face. Ick. Pet peeve. Do something with it, please!!!

Why are men like this?

Not all men (and I know you didn't say ALL men) have a preference for long hair on females or dictate the length of their daughters' hair. And, I would absolutely have had a big problem with my husband if he had ever said our daughters' hair had to be a certain style or length.

My husband likes short (as well as long hair) on our daughters, and since I love short hair on little girls, I kept our daughters' hair short when they were young. There came a time when both girls wanted to grow their hair out, and that was fine, too. Throughout the years, they've had their hair all different lengths. Our youngest daughter had her hair cut very short for a few years in her teens and she was always getting compliments on it. She is now growing it out.

I've worn my hair in a short style for many, many years, and I've also stopped coloring it and I'm letting it go gray. My husband likes it (bless his heart:thumbsup2) and he's always told our daughters that he thinks they're beautiful no matter how long or short their hair is.:)

My dh loves short hair. Oddly he thinks I look better with long hair, but he really couldn't care less if I cut my hair. Any man so controlling as to not speak to his wife because she cut her hair has some serious issues. Get he to a therapist. Also the majority of guys I know are more interested in other parts.... like her bobo.

My mental reaction to hearing a man wants long hair is that he should start growing his then. I think if they knew what a pain in the butt long hair was from personal experience, they'd stop having these unreasonable expectations. This coming from a woman who grows her hair out and then cuts it all off to donate about every two years, so I've experienced chin length to butt length. It's SO lightweight and takes so much less time when I get it chopped that I really look forward to those times now. I can't speak from personal experience tho, since I had to fight my parents to grow it out originally when I was 5. I've had boyfriends say that they prefer it long, and then when I cut it they always liked it that way too. :confused3 So the short answer...I dunno. ;)

Long hair a pain in the butt? I always found short hair to be that, always having to get it cut never being able to do much with it. I decided many years ago to grow it long and found it so much easier to keep it like that, though I have had people suggesting I donate it its not going to happen.

My father was like that. Had a fit when my sisters got there hair cut shoulder length. I didn't live w/ him, so he had no say on my hair style.

My hair, and one of my daughters is pretty short. My youngest daughter just had hers cut shoulder length last week. We all have very thick hair, and it looks horrible if it gets too long. Luckily DH understands that it is much easier to take care of, and has no problems.

Now can someone answer this question. Why does DH constantly ask me to go blonde:rolleyes1

:thumbsup2 I agree!! I can not even imagine someone telling me not to cut my hair or my childs hair if it was unruly. I can't even imagine a young child with hair down to their butts- that poor child!!!!!
I have asked my daughter for many years how she would like her hair, when she was 5 she wanted to grow it for locks of love, it got to a point where she was so fustrated with it she asked me "can I please get this cut" that night we were at the haircutters getting it cut to shoulder length.
Why would anyone insist their kids have long hair- doesn't the child get a say in it???

I don't really even understand why my dh would have ANY say in how I cut MY hair.:confused3 I cannot stand men who refuse to let their wives and dd's get their haircut. Why can't she get the haircut she wants? What if she told her DH that she loved a mullet and wanted him to only have that style? Would he comply? I am sorry but I find that controlling and I would not want a man like that for my DH. Thankfully my DH doesn't care what hairstyle I or the girls get. I have had it short and super long. Does he have preferences? Sure! He doesn't like my hair as much when it is super long. Would he tell me to never grow it? No way. I think any man that is so invested in his wive's hairstyle needs to figure out why. YMMV.

My boyfriend likes longish straight hair (as far as I know). I can't stand my hair longer than my shoulder, and it's naturally curly (though I usually straighten it). He's still with me after 4 years and right now the longest point hits my chin. When I'm upset with him I leave it curly. ;)

I very clearly recall that when I was growing my hair back our in college after two years with a chin length bob my hair dresser said that he had recently read a survey saying the reason men prefer long hair is it looks sexy on the pillow:lmao:Seriously?! I goot wonder who wrote that survey:rolleyes1 I do think a lot of men feel it looks more feminine and I guess they want their wives and daughters to look like more girlie:confused3

DH prefers long hair on me but would not give me any grief at all if I wanted to cut it (I like it long becuase I am lazy--with long hair I can brush and go but with short hair I always had to style it:rolleyes:).

We both feel that kids should be able to choose their own hairstyle if they are old enough to have an opinion. I could se an exception of telling a child with long hair who refused to brush out the tangles that it must be cut short if they will not take care of it long. Luckily we have never had to do that. DD12 wears hers almost to her butt (it won't grow any longer) and likes it that way. Sometimes both DH and I wish she would cut it short just to try out the look, but ut is her hair--and i admit I disliked my hair short and disliked growing it back out even more so I can see why she does not want to risk a change when she is happy with it.

DS wears his in a longish surfer boy cut. I think it looks great. DH thinks he would look better with a more "standard" boy cut--but does not really care. Forcing a boy to have short hair is not any better than forcing a girl to have long hair in both his and my opinion.

I cannot fathom being married to someone who is so petty as to not speak to his wife for weeks after she got a haircut. My guess is such men also tend to insist that boys have very short hair, try to dress their girls in lots of dresses and pink and push boys into sports and girls into dance, etc. ie: controlling a simple haircut is likely only part of a controlling personality which wants everything to fall very much along traditional gender lines.

For my husband I think it stems from 2 things. The first is his moms hairiis short and has been in pictures I have seen of her as far back as I can remember.Same hairstyle for the whole time I have known her. It looks AWFUL.There are no words for how bad it is.

The second is all the women in my side of the family gain a ton of weight and then cut their hair off. This has been going on for years. Again NOT flattering.

My hair is shorter then it has ever been at my shoulders. I am looking for ease of doing it but do respect DH's opinion and mine as well. My DD 12 just got more cut off then Iwanted her to.IMHO it doesn't look goodand Iwon'tbetaking her to the salon until some of it grows back.
I have a DS and I don't care what the style is he is not going to have long hair while he is under my roof. i don't think he wants it as he has his own opinions about things like that that I won't post because it would offend people here.

It's leftover from the caveman days, you know, when they used to drag their women into their cave by the hair.

Long hair is a big huge pain in the butt! I absolutely hate hate hate having to do my hair in the morning. Its yucky wavy but doesn't look good wavy so every morning I have fight it with a hair dryer and a flat iron. It looks GREAT when its straight and smooth, but it take 30-45 minutes to get it that way. By the time I'm done I'm so hot and sticky, I feel grosser than before I took a shower. When I had short hair it was no muss no fuss. I'd wash it smoosh some pomade in it and I was good to go. I absolutely loved the ease of short hair. Unfortunately my husband feels it isn't feminine on me AND I agree with him. Even though it was easy, I never felt less feminine and "pretty" than when it was short.

My brother is like this and wouldn't let his kids get their hair cut when they were younger. It was down to their butts. My niece said to me when she was 10 or 11, "I want my hair cut but daddy won't let me because he likes long hair". I told her, "it's your hair...you're old enough to decide". Thankfully a year or so later after the kid constantly asking he let her get it cut.

My oldest wanted a bob at 4, and while I was a little sad to see it go, it was her head and she was still adorable with shorter hair!

Maybe just because it looks better? :confused3

Have to strongly disagree...I don't think super long hair looks good on anyone.
