Why do men like long hair on women and daughters?

I've been wearing my hair very, very short for more years than I can remember (although I really, really need a hair cut right now - LOL)..

My late DH had no problem with it.. My hair, my choice..:goodvibes

I cannot imagine my DH telling me how I am going to wear my hair. I do ask his opinion and I do respect his opinion.....however his opinion usually is "whatever you want" :rotfl:

Now DD (5) has hair almost to her butt (with bangs) and wants to grow it out as long as Rapunzel. Now if someone could just tell me how to get her to be patient while her hair is combed out and fixed I would be in heaven. I get so frustrated that I want to cut it off....although we need it "longer" to do ballerina buns and put it up for gymnastics.

I have really long hair and my husband likes my hair really long.

But, if you all want to see me cut my hair faster than you can say boo is if he says I HAVE to have long hair and would pout and not speak to me for a week about it.

Really? I wouldn't marry the guy mentioned in the OP here.

Long hair after a certain age just looks silly, IMO, of course. An inch or two past the shoulders maximum if you are over the age of 30. I can't think of a single person I know personally that looks good with hair longer than that.

This thread reminds me an episide of King of Queens when Carrie cut her hair right before they went on a cruise and Doug thought she looked like Pete Rose:happytv:

OR do any of you know what it's like living with a wife/daughter that just cut her hair short and hates it? It's a fun couple of months let me tell ya.

As for me I couldn't care less. My wife goes everywhere with me and alot of our time is spent riding 4-wheelers, snowmobiling, boating or whitewater rafting. For the life of me I can't understand why she keeps her hair long when we spend so much time outdoors but if that's what floats her boat :thumbsup2 It's up to her.

I agree with you.

I often equate a good, short hairstyle with a woman who is up to date and modern:sunny: Polished, if you will.

I see so many women with long hair just for the sake of it being long. I don't get it.

Except for one brief period in the early 90s - think permed and poofed, my hair was short since the third grade. Sometimes really short.

In the last two years I started letting it grow out (kinda my last chance to have long hair). It is just below my shoulders. It is thick & naturally curly and I love it. It makes me feel sexy. DH loves it too, but actually prefers it up in a twist, bun or pony tail. Though he would never presume to tell me how to wear my hair.

I agree! Once you are in your 40's the long hair just looks like you are stuck in your youth and doesn't really look so good on you now!

I'm 47 and I have long hair and love it. Of course, I don't let it just hang there - I style it so that it is full and wavy and not stringy. DH loves it and I actually get quite a few compliments on it and think it makes me younger. It certainly makes me feel younger and more attractive. I really don't have the features to successfully pull off a short hair-do, so I will probably always keep it long.

I don't necessarily think that all men like long hair on their wives and daughters. My fiance likes my hair short and my father doesn't care. I just think it would be odd that a person would dictate what a wife's hair should look like.

I don't get it either. DH thinks my hair looks cute long or short.

Most women I've seen who keep their hair long because "their husbands won't let them cut it" have that stringy, unstyled hair that ages them and just looks ugly...to everyone else but their husbands, I guess! :confused3

My sister-in-law is in her late forties and she looks like she work in a biker bar. She has long, straight, bleach blond hair that is so processed it looks like straw. It looks absolutely terrible on her and does nothing to flatter her face or her figure. She has a PhD and runs two pathology labs at a major medical center, but she keeps her hair looking cheap and trashy because her long-term, abusive bully of a boyfriend wants it that way. This only one of many, many personal compromises she has made to keep him happy. That is my point of reference. Coercion is ugly.

You can't be serious?

Ever see a picture of Catherine Zeta-Jones?

I'm 40 and I have stylish long hair. I don't look silly. :sad2:

Havent read all the posts but I think men like long hair because it affonts THEIR masculinity. Too much like 'dating another dude'.

DH prefers longer hair but I do with it as I please(shoulder lenght) and he can like it or lump it.

My husband says most men, himself included, associate shorter hairstyles with older women and he says long hair looks more youthful. I type this response as I sit here with my chin-length bobbed haircut :rotfl2:.

I have kept my hair short since I was 19 (I'm 33 now). I have grown it to shoulder length a couple of times since we have been married and he would get really aggravated when I cut it. He finally figured out I feel so much better about myself when my hair is cut shorter.

Now, getting my daughter's hair cut short is another story. I've done it twice, at her request and the last time he was furious. He had to admit it was a cute hairstyle on her, but his initial reaction left such an impression on her that she decided to grow it long again. I hate that! That will stick with her for years. He and I had a coming-to-Jesus about that whole incident.

I don't think all men prefer long hair. We all have our own preferences. I prefer my DH with a beard. He shaved if off for a while and I didn't like it, but he got tired of shaving and let it grow back. I'm 47 and my hair is just past shoulder length, and don't care what anyone thinks about how it looks, except me!

argh...I work with someone like that....it's very unkempt and she pulls it back in a scrunchy. I'm pretty sure she doesn't brush it either.

To the OP, I'd shave my head bald if my boyfriend told me I HAD to have long hair. Oh wait, I'd just get another boyfriend!
