Why are the Tamagotchi V 5 so expensive?

Weird, I thought I posted this last night, but didn't see it.
Anyways, the Tamagotchi Version 5 is on my DD11's Christmas List, and when I went to buy it, I can't find it cheaper than $38.99!! Does anyone know why these are so much more expensive than the others which run less than $15?
