Why are so many people so unkind?

I have been more or less lurking here for years haven't posted much. I have learned sorry to say by experience how some here not all but it seems to be getting more people who just LOVE to say unkind things and see who can make that person feel the worst. Some of threads I have read lately and just go o my goodness I can't believe that person posted that. Please tell me what do these people get out of this kind of behavior? I am done posting. Maybe I will lurk again at a later date maybe I'm done! :furious:

Of course there are some not so nice people, but the flip side is that there are some very kind people, too. Some people who have really brought me out of funks, made me laugh, asked my how I'm doing, at least acted like they cared, and who I have gotten to know enough to do all of the above for them (and I don't just act like I care--I really do :) ).

The best thing to do is to ignore the rude, hateful posts and focus on the positive. The majority of people that post here are very kind and helpful. I think some people just have a few bad days and don't realize what they've said until after they've done it and someone has called them on it.

Unfortunately, it's that way everywhere, even IRL. I have an uncle who is constantly putting everyone in the family down because it makes him feel better. Just because this is a Disney related board doesn't mean that all of the people here are going to be pixiedust: Magical pixiedust: You just have to overlook those people, cause they aren't worth your time anyway.

That's just my opinion though.

I tend to feel sorry for the people who you describe. I guess they are miserable with their current situation and get a "high" off of snide remarks and rude comments. I tend to overlook and/or ignore (if they get to obnoxious) and continue on.

This is why people are unkind. They want to steal your energy. And it works.
Think about the people in your life. Some leave you feeling drained...they are the energy stealers. Stay away from them. Others leave you feeling great. They give you energy.

Read the Celestine Prophecy it will change your life. It is coming out as a movie.

:confused3 I don't know why either except that maybe these people are having a bad time thier selves. I tend to read the funny and light threads as these are what I enjoy.

Also just get off one that upsets you and go to the next one. :goodvibes

Well ,this thread seems to pop up every few weeks. While some people are just plain rude, often times DEBATE is confused with being rude. When someone posts "Hey, I just got my toddlers tongue pierced and it;s soooo cute" (as an example) you can expect some people to disagree. Depending on the topic, that debate can get pretty lively. And some people don't like it when anyone dares to disagree.

Lots of people from all different walks in life, with lots of different ways of seeing things...there are bound to be differences.

If you think this forum is rough...you probably haven't been looking at very many message boards. Especially, non or only slightly moderated ones. Holy cow, some of them are downright scary...

ETA, if you think about it, everyone has a different idea of what 'unkind' is...for example, someone might read this thread and think it comes off as 'unkind' even though that may not be yuour intention (not me, just using an example)

Well, there are people from all walks of life here, with all varieties of personality. I also think that the anonymous nature of the Internet gives people more "gumption" than they would have in real life.

I think people just disagree on here alot and it comes off as mean even though they didn't want it to be that way. I also think that the words people write get twisted around sometimes. I think the 20 page debate threads are where people would first go to see it being rude but really they might just have quite a few people disagreeing with others and that is considered rude. I think some people think everyone is going to agree with them and when someone doesn't they get all hurt. I also think it's easy to hide behind the computer so people get a little more bold then they normally would if it was a face to face conversation!

I have 2 or 3 people I ignore. I enjoy the DIS. I'm not going to let a few rude people run me off. But, to each his own. :confused3

Don't let it get to you!! I have met great people on line. I have made the best of friends. Some people like to "debate" what day it is. If thats their thing so be it.

Don't let it get to you!

I think this is the crucial point.

IRL friends disagree but try to disagree politely. The tone here sometimes reminds me of the SNL skit with one announcer saying, "Jane, you ignorant...."

 Well, this was probably the dumbest post I have read all day  Don't you have a frog funeral to attend?  :teeth: Bwahahahahahahaha

I personally think that some people think that they will never meet the other people here so it's okay to be rude.

Still in my book it is not okay to be rude to anyone. I tell my kids at school that if they don't like a rule, a kid, teacher, or homework assingment that noone else should know either by their actions, body language or mouth!

I only want world peace and to end hunger. Is it too much to ask! (This is my motto at school when the teachers get all fussy about something!) :hippie:

I think there are a few rude people-name calling, personal attacks, What I am tired of are the people who ask an oppinion and if you don't agree with them or the majority you are called rude or mean. A debate/discussion has two sides and as long as you aren't doing the above I consider it informative to see how others interpret a situation. I also think it is easy to come across a lot sharper than people mean to because of no intonation of voice or posture and people tend to mince words when they are typing.

And like I tell my kids the world isn't always kind.

Some folks just haven't had a nice day until they've ruined someone else's!

There are many good people and some not so much....consider the source in those cases and enjoy the rest!!! Many have very kind hearts and words to match! I guess others just like to add their 2-cents worth..

She may want to stay clear of the funeral, just to keep suspicion away from her.
