Why are Members magical?

Is it only me, or is anyone else bugged by the slogan "Members are Magical". I've been a member for several years now and I'm definitely a certified disney nut, however I just don't understand the reference. Disney is undeniably magical and a good case could be made for Dvc as well, but me as a member, I don't think so. Unless you consider how I could magically part with as much money in as little time as I did over these few years at Wdw and not seem to mind, now that's magical. I wish they would come up with a new slogan. Maybe with this new fella in charge, somewhere way down on his list he'll work on a new one.

While I'm venting, I wish they'd just make a small Dvc embroidered emblem on a polo shirt, button down shirt or zip up jacket. No huge 12" Dvc logo on the back, no members are magical up the sleeve or elsewhere. Just something small and classy. Ok I'm done complaining.

Thanks,

Jon

I have a jacket that I bought this past Fall which only has a small logo on it - nothing else. I know I've seen polos at one time, too.

Every polo shirt at VB last year had "Members are Magical" in huge letters on the back.

WE are Magical because we all came up with the money to purchase DVC one Magical way or another!:teeth:

along the lines of what Guads6 said... every time i see the "Members are magical" logo, i snicker and think... yeah, we're magical alright... magical 'cause we all "magically" give Disney tons of money. and DVC "magically" became a cash cow. :p

now whenever i see the word "Magic" or "Magical" associated with Disney, i can't help but think about Eisner and his recent statement "Magic is about deception." why??? why would he SAY it that way? Disney fans already find him annoying, but saying that is just horrible. argh, makes me mad.

also, in general, i sometimes find the way they word DVC literature to be a little over the top. the recent MH invite is just too much... *sigh*

I loved that one!!

Members are Magically delicious!!!!

Pleeeeease could I have a T-shirt with that on it???

Maybe with a picture of the headhunters from the Jungle Cruise! It would be great!

it works like this

you slap a big logo on the shirt/jacket and then charge a ridiculous price for it - like 2 or 3 times whatever the cost is or what a person would pay for the clothes without the logo.

then, not only have you taken the customers (DVC members) money (again), you also got him to give you free advertising on his back. you think a little logo would be noticable to others who see the shirt/jacket? of course not. Tommy Hilfiger eventually learned the hard way that this does not work in the long run. DVC might eventually figure it out as well.

I have the same jacket! DH & I bought them last year @ OKW.

I liked the "If you believe in magic, you belong" slogan better too.

I never thought about the "Members are magical" slogan, but I do think it's cheesy. Ever since I was a kid I've been a little disillusioned by the fact that most of WDW is a commercial for WDW. But it hasn't kept me away.

I disagree that the magic of Disney is deception. The REAL magic is the people, the atmosphere, the inspiration and memories, the imagination taking flight. These are NOT deception.

Eisner trying to be Walt Disney IS deception, or a poor attempt at it.

Yeah, I bet DVC thought of it as their little joke when they came up with the slogan! :teeth:

The slogan is horrendous in my opinion. The old one was much better. I am an owner so I am sure in the opinion of many here, I am certainly not magical, only to my two children. That is fine with me.

Well it's a new day, and I should be working and lurking but while I'm on my soapbox and have my wish list out, about the clothes, I hope some day when they bring out small classy embroidered Dvc logo, short and sweet, that they make some sizes for us guys other than s-m-l. I'm talking about about "talls" for us with monkey arms. Ok, that's all for now. Back to getting a new slogan. I do like " If you believe in magic..."

I'm not a fan of the "members are magical" slogan either and it is the whole reason I have never purchased any DVC items. I just think the BIG logo with the slogan is too tacky or at least it is for me to wear. I would also love to see some new merchandise with a smaller and different slogan. Even a simple small DVC logo w/o the "members are magical" emroidered on a polo shirt or jacket I would buy.

All the shirts that I've seen with the huge logo and slogan would make me feel like I'm an employee of DVC if I wore one and not an owner.

Well, I don't know about you all, but I am magical at work. Every time I go near someone's network problem, it always seems to mysteriously work again...until I leave the area. :cool2:

FWIW, I like the 'If you believe in magic...' better. It's more fitting.
In terms of mechandise, I agree that something subtle is much better. Too much emphasis seems to be on making souviniers walking billboards rather than subtle reminders of something more fun than our daily grinds.
