Why am I not that excited about 7 Dwarfs ride?

A ride doesn't have to be wild to be great. I don't think there are too many people who believe Disney is going to start adding crazy thrill rides.

I do know that Disney knows how to do tame rides exceptionally, and that is why something like Little Mermaid was so disappointing. I mean, compare that to HM or POTC. Compare Figment to the original version. Even TSMM is just a bunch of screens you ride past.

What makes Disney rides so great is the details and theme, as well as cutting edge technology. In recent years that's been missing, and while I hope 7DMT brings that back, I'm not setting myself up for disappointment.

Our family is very much looking forward to it! It's obviously not meant to be a monster thrill ride -- that's no surprise -- but many favorites at WDW aren't.

Not sure if anyone here considers this recent enough, but we LOVE Star Tours as it was reimagined. And though we're not Avatar fans per se, we're looking forward to what those rides will be like. Not a "ride", but Enchanted Tales with Belle is cute and clever as set up, we thought. And we LOVE the theming of New Fantasyland. It's all subjective, obviously.

I like the cute rides, too but, think Disney is lacking a balance in it's choice of new rides.
MK was already good and a 2 day park, no more cute rides were needed.
AK, HS and Epcot really need more, the money could have been better spent here, this is JMHO.
At least there is Avatarland on the horizon for AK, but again not really excited about the theme. I hope I am surprised and that Disney makes it so cool I eat my words and that is the truth of it.
It really surprises me and makes me sad to feel this way about Disney. Even my kids are trying to convince me that our penny pinching is worth this next trip...yet, I am just not feeling it, I am faking it for them and they can tell. I think the kids are a bit sad too, because they know how I use to get childlike giddy before our trips and would do countdown dinners, would be making spread sheets, making matching shirts, buying tink gifts before our trips, now I am just reluctantly doing what I have to do for them.

My kids are now teens, and are just too smart to really fool them. My oldest daughter yesterday, said "Mom, I think our trip will be better than you think, I think we will really have a good time" sad she feels the need to convince me, because I would rather go out to dinner than save money for our trip. That song "You've lost that loving feeling" seems to be apt, about how I am feeling about Disney. I am just falling out of love and it has been a gradual thing that has been building due to Disney's actions and choices.

I just left this forum, and went to the rumors-news forum and saw a post with this link...

Again, not many rides...mostly dining and shopping...oh goody! feeling so jaded, not very childlike about Disney. The only stuff here that is in the least that is exciting is the Avatarland rides and Yeck to the mess hall.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train wraps up the Fantasy Land Expansion. It is a coaster for the younger set. And the theming is outstanding. That is what I love about WDW. Splash is "just a flume ride." But it is the theming that makes it memorable.

FJ is a fun ride, but it is a simulator. Universal has a ton of simulator rides and they make me nauseous. The coasters are too intense for my daughter's liking. So we will go to Uni next year to visit Diagon Alley. But we love the imagineering of disney. Works great for our family.

As for Mine Train.... can not wait!

Even Radio Springs Racers at Disneyland looks like another version of Test Track with different theme.

I'm surprised there was so little reaction to that statement.

If that's what you think RSR is, then there's not much else to discuss.

The ride looks cute. I've lost my desire to go on thrill rides and my husband and daughter have never had a desire, so I'm happy to have a ride that looks fun without being intense and has something cute to look at.

I do agree that RSR is cool and this is more of what DW needs.

That is one of the reasons probably DL will be my next Disney trip and we can see California or DL Paris since I have always wanted to ride the Haunted Mansion here and see Paris. I want to be excited again about a Disney trip, the two above mentioned trips will also allow us to show our teens another part of the world.

Disney Queenie...I think there's a good chance that when you arrive at the AKL...you'll get "that loving feeling" back. Just a hunch. Once you get in that Disney bubble...sigh...wish I was there now!pixiedust:

Because it's a lot of build up for something so minor.

The dwarves prefer to be called miners. :rotfl:

BTW, just in general, I am kind of sad that these boards reflect the attitude of whatever Disney does is not good enough. I realize I am a die-hard Pollyanna, but I continue to get the butterflies in my stomach every time we go to Disney, talk about Disney, or return from Disney. Also can't wait for the new FOLTK. The building looks AWESOME!!!

The hype and expectations for 7DMT will make it really hard for it to live up to what people want it to be as a ride.

Disney did wonders with California Adventure, especially Carsland. That's why I've been disappointed in the Fantasyland expansion. Ariel just doesn't have the details of old attractions and I haven't been impressed with sneak peaks of 7D. It just looks too short. I was also surprised by the thrill factor. Looks very tame. Wish they would have done something like the detail of Radiator Springs!

That's not really fair. Many of us listed some of the great things Disney has done recently, they're just not being done in WDW.

We know what they're capable of, and for some of us, what they have chosen to do in WDW is falling short. Although, I will say (over and over again) THANK YOU DISNEY for changing the original Princessland plans. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

What is FOLTK?

I think part of the problem with New Fantasyland, and this ride, is that it didn't open all at once.

They opened most of it in 2012, but then there was construction sitting there in the middle of it for two years.

And now everyone has been waiting for this ride, and the time it's taken to build it builds up the hype, and it's hard to live up to hype.

That's how Disney messed this up IMO.

That pretty much describes all of WDW's rides with the exception of a very few thrill rides. :)
I don't think people here are saying that Disney needs to create thrill rides with huge drops that go super fast. I think we are saying that they just keep doing the same thing and its getting old.

I'm excited for Avatarland or Pandora or whatever it is called and that isn't going to be a thrill ride. I didn't like the movie but I think Disney will show us something that hasn't been seen before and that is what I'm looking foward to. I just can't get excited about another small coaster that is themed to a movie from the 30's.

I really have to agree with a lot of you here. We hadn't been to Disney in over 8 years and the new rides just didn't seem new to us. For the most part the new Dumbo ride is just the old ride doubled, and when we got off the Ariel ride my husband turned to me and asked why did they bother to make this ride when we just saw it yesterday with real people at HS? The updated Test Track was nice and we loved being back at Disney but we spent a lot more time at Epcot relaxing around the world and back at our resort then we had expected to. For the huge price increase since our last visit I guess I was expecting something more.

I just watched a ride thru of Mystic Manor in HKDL and boy was I impressed! 7DMT would be lucky to be even half as good!

I think the hype for 7DMT is just way out of proportion. Some people here are making it out to be some blockbuster-super-E-ticket-Potter-swatter attraction when in fact it's more like a good D-ticket. I suspect it'll be completely overshadowed by Gringott's coaster this summer.

I don't think that whatever Disney does is not good enough...I just don't think they are doing enough at WDW's three non-MK parks. MK is already loaded w/rides and attractions and the crowds reflect that. I'd like to see the wealth spread a little more evenly to the other three parks...it would take away some of the constant overcrowding at the MK.

I still get butterflies every time I go to Disney as well. :goodvibes
