Who's Gonna Have More Fun? Two PTR's for the Price of One!

Shelly, oh my gosh, I can't believe you had an earthquake! :scared1: So it was centered in DC/VA and you felt it all the way in PA? I guess it's not that far of a distance, but it just sounds far! I think of you as being way up north! I can't imagine what it feels like to experience an earthquake. Tornados and earthquakes are so much more scary than hurricanes because you have no warning. At least with hurricanes, you have days, sometimes weeks, to prepare. Doesn't make you feel any better if you lose everything, though. This has been such a bizarre year for weather and other disasters.

I say the same thing....at least with hurricanes you have warning. I live in the heart of tornado alley....and let me just tell you I'm not afraid to admit they scare me to death! And it really has been an extremely harsh year for weather. Makes me wonder what the winter months will bring. :sad2:

Thank you!

Stinks doesn't it! It's nice living so close to the coast because we can go to the beach for the day any time we want, but when something like this happens, I wish I lived somewhere else.

I was in high school when Hugo hit, but I remember that one and Andrew. That would have freaked me out to not be able to get in touch with my parents like that. So glad you had a friend who could help out. It's hard to imagine a time before cell phones, isn't it! My parents live next door, so at least I don't have to worry about my household and them.

We've only had one cat 4 storm here in my lifetime (Floyd in '99). It was absolutely devastating. It literally destroyed Eastern NC. Not only did it bring typical hurricane damage, but also 20 some inches of rain that caused enormous flooding. It has taken so long for this area to recover from that even though it was more than 10 years ago. It's really amazing how drastically life can change in about 12 hours. I am REALLY hoping that this storm fizzles out or changes course. But in the meantime, we will be turning our house into Fort Knox and buying up all the batteries and beenie weenies in a 50 mile radius!

On a brighter note... HAPPY SINGLE DIGITS TO YOU! :)

RinkyTinky, I hope the hurricane stays clear of NC! Maybe it will just veer off into the northeast Atlantic and miss the US entirely! I've been through a few hurricanes in my life, but I am not directly on the coast. So by the time they reach us, they have weakened a good bit. It still scares me to death though! I remember when Hugo hit SC - I can't believe it has been that long ago! Andrew hit in 1992 (I think) and after devastating Miami in crossed into the Gulf and hit Louisiana. My DH had to stay at work, so my kids and I went to ride it out at my sister's house. I remember we all piled into her hallway with blankets and pillows and a little battery radio and pretty much stayed up all night when it came through. We were very lucky that there was little damage here, just lots of trees down and power outages. Isn't it a weird feeling when everyone hits the stores for supplies? It's like scary excitement and nerves. Just a lot of energy in the air!

That's a lot of bananas!!

Thanks for the well wishes with the weather. I don't know what to think about it anymore.

I'm sure DS will do fine in MS. It's just going to be a big adjustment for him.

WOW!

I hadn't heard that about the airports closing. Yikes! Good thing we weren't flying today.

This is crazy! Now I am really worried about Friday!

All the way up there too? Holy cow!

I have a pounding migraine, I'm going to go lay down. :sad2:

Shelly - Hope your migraine went away. I am sure your DS will do fine in MS. I think it is us as parents that become more aprehensive about them going off to MS.

Only 3 more Days

I hope it moves on out too. The forecast is looking better, but it's still too far off to tell what will happen. We are not directly on the coast either and I always thought that meant we were immune to hurricanes.... until Fran. That storm rocked my world and I will never again underestimate the inland devastation that can come from a hurricane. They are notorious for spinning off tornadoes as well, which has happened here with even very weak storms.

And I can totally relate to spending a very long, sleepless night on the floor listening to the radio. I swear those nights seemed to never end! It always amazes me how the wind could blow that hard and the rain could pour down for hours on end without taking a single break! It is much easier to deal with when they come during the day. They are expecting this one to hit here during the night on Saturday though. :sad2:

I hate the mad store rush before and after it hits too. It can get insane!

Morning ladies! It's 7:10 here, so after 8 for you guys and no 'talky' yet this morning..are y'all okay? I didnt know about the earthquakes till late last night. I was shocked. I mean, all the way to PA? :scared1: Well, I have to work today and won't be able to check in as ofter as I would like, but will have to try to just to make sure you are all alright and have 'net service!!

Jo......I must hear about this haircut you had!! And you are just over a week away!!!!:dance3:

Shelly...hope your migraine is gone--I am sure it was stress and weather pressure induced...when we have hurricanes pass through I get terrible migraines. Sleep is usually the only thing that helps...hope you are better today and can take it easy.

Good morning! :goodvibes

2 DAYS to go!!! I can't believe it! :banana::banana:

It looks like FL will be spared of Irene. Thankfully. I still don't know about our flight down on Friday morning. Hopefully we won't have any delays or cancellations. We thought about switching to a Thursday nt flight, but I think we will just stick with Friday morning and hope for the best! :wizard:

8 DAYS Jo!!! :cool1:

I know, that was crazy! :crazy2:

You're right -- there's no warning for earthquakes and little to no warning for tornadoes. At least you have several days to track a hurricane. Which doesn't make it any better if it hits your area, but still. Luckily we don't live in an area that usually has these things.

It has been a crazy year weather wise for sure!

Thanks Sheila. My migraine was not a long lasting one, thankfully. I am feeling better today.

Yes, I guess it's our job as parents to worry about every little thing in our children's lives!!

I think it's looking better for you Rinky! But maybe not so good for the New England states. :scared1:

:woohoo:

Only when your BFF is leaving in 2 days does 8 days sound like a long time! Y'all remind me of 2 long-lost sisters reunited. :rotfl2:

The news just seems to be getting better each day. Hurricanes are turning away from Florida, the weather forecast actually includes the word "sun" a few times, and packing is completed or at least begun in some cases ;) .

Life is good!!!

Shelly, I think you are making the right choice leaving your flight as is. It looks like it is far enough off shore that you shouldn't have a problem. :thumbsup2 It's looking better for me too. I'm hoping we just have rain!

I'm so excited for you!

I sure hope so!! I just know that if we change it then there will be problems the day we change it too! :upsidedow

Hopefully we are all safe from Irene. :wizard:

Shelly - I will go over and check out the HoJo for you and take some pictures. Right now there is a lot of construction going on over at the DL hotel, but that should be done by next summer. The new pool is open as well as the new bar and quick service counter, Trader Sam's and Tangaroa Terrace. They are remodeling all the rooms in all four towers, including the outside facade. It has been an ongoing project for almost two years now and they are almost done.

I see "Some Sun" a few times there!!:rotfl:

Of course maybe a lack of sun when it is 94 degrees might be appreciated!

So very true!! :)

I feel so bad that I didn't take a SINGLE picture of HoJo when we stayed there last year!! :confused3 What was I thinking? I can tell you the inside was clean. The little gift shop...CROWDED...and not with people. It was (is?) a very small space with a LOT of stuff in it. The new pool looked really nice, but we got in late and only stayed a few nights. I'm actually looking forward to seeing any photos you can take to see where we stayed! :lmao:
