Is this view worth paying more for would be one question I'd ask.
If I had booked something characterized specifically as a lake view, then yes, I think I'd have been disappointed. Would I pay a few extra points each night to be guaranteed a view like this over say, a parking lot, dumpster, or bus stop? Yes. Hypothetically, VWL could offer a standard view or a woods view and some people would be willing to pay a premium for the woods views. The slice of lake view would just be a bonus.
The only resort I've ever booked a specific view for is BLT; we've done the lake view twice now and I've found that the water views are abundant; I mean, you are right on the lake. Love that I can look left from some of the lake view rooms there and get the bonus of fireworks (without the parking lot!) That being said, this July, I opted for standard view there. And at most resorts that offer a view, that's what I go for if it's available. We still spend a lot of time at the parks and at the end of the day, I'm not in my room long enough to really worry about the view. There will come a day when the parks are less of a focus for us, and then, the views at our resort will matter more.
I think that ultimately the point of my post was that for a resort that I've seen so many reports of "no views" that there are, indeed, some nice ones. I think the fact that I didn't make a room request and expected, well, nothing, made the view all the more a very pleasant surprise.
P.S. I will book Savannah Views at AKL, but only for DD. And I wouldn't do it for a whole week. But for a couple of days, sure. Gotta please the kiddos. After all, DD, was the one who wanted to stay at VWL, and I'm so glad she talked me into it. Much to my surprise, I loved the resort, even with the rustic decor in the rooms (I'm much happier with clean, simple, contemporary style.) My favorite aspect of the resort...the boat transportation. I swear I'd have been happy just riding back and forth some days and evenings for an hour or two. Would they let me do that?
