Who Will Be There December 6?

It will be INSANE and people who plan to be at Magic Kingdom on December 6, and the few day following the grand opening, need to prepare thenselves for the huge crowds. I don't think it will have much impact on the crowd numbers for the other 3 parks, but I would expect all of the crowd calendar numbers for Magic Kingdom to go through the roof for mid-December. I would say the Fantasyland expansion grand opening would be comparable to the CarsLand opening at California Adventure this summer. TG doubled their crowd numbers after the announcement for the Carsland opening and I would suspect they will do the same for the Fantasyland expansion grand opening.

I would agree with you. Without a doubt, crowds are going be very bad probably starting Nov. 19th and all thru December. The first two weeks of Dec. are not going to be as quiet as usual and then Christmas thru New years are going to be worse this year because of the newly opened fantasyland. I would also expect the crowd-calendar levels to change. The mvmcp party on the 6th is likely going to sell out and be very crowded as well. It is surprising they are doing the grand opening on a mvmcp day. I saw a picture of the Little mermaid opening day at Disneyland and the line was horrendous and I would expect just as bad or worse for in WDW. I'll be in MK on Dec. 5th and hoping to see everything while they are in "preview". I won't dare go to MK on the 6th. :scared:

Any news on if FLE will open at rope drop or have a later open time?

This will be a huge media event - lights, camera, action - that will have a huge hoopla when they open to the general public. I would not expect it to be open to the general public when Disney opens the gates of Magic Kingdom that morning.

I agree with this. I can't, for the life of me, figure out what they are thinking having this huge grand opening on a MVMCP date. What are they thinking? It will be interesting to see how this all plays out . . . .

Maybe not.

But they could do what they've done, in the past, for some of the Christmas parade performances......do all the hoopla prior to rope drop (say, 8 AM). Let the press and cameras in..maybe some "special guests" (ie: something related to a charitable cause and/or VIP's) to fill out the crowd, do the speeches and the handshakes, and clear out by the time the gates open (or VERY shortly thereafter).

Or they could leave FL "closed" til they do a huge ribbon cutting just after guests arrive/rope drop.

We won't know until/unless Disney reveals their plans as we get closer.

I arrive on the 5th and was planning on MK the 6th: this out to be interesting.

When do you leave? If you don't like crowds, you should avoid MK on the 6th and well thru that weekend. I'm going to attempt the 4th and hope for the best.

We'll be there from the 5th to the 12th. I'm simultaneously excited to see the new stuff and super worried we'll have huge lines everywhere thanks to the opening being that week. We loved that week last year since the temperatures and crowds were lower (we used to always go the week of the 4th of July until we decided enough with the heat!), so it made a wonderful first birthday celebration for our daughter. We're going again this year with the same group of 10 (or 11 if my BIL's new GF comes), which though a blast, also tends to be a bit trying - since I do most of the planning for the trip, I usually end up feeling pressure to make sure everyone's happy. Add to that long lines and our soon-to-be 2 year old's level of patience, and I'm a bit nervous about the trip now. I just want her to have fun and get to do things. Super long lines may decrease the number of things she can do. At least I booked the dinners a while ago!
I definitely wanted to be there for her birthday again, which is why I'm not changing our plans (we're staying off-site with my parents who live 5 min away, so no money lost if we did change plans), but I think our Feb trip may turn out better if the crowds die down a bit - we'll get a better chance to see the new stuff then I hope, which lessens the pressure for seeing it all this time (at least for the ones of us going again in Feb, not all of the 11 are). I guess in December, we'll just do what we can and leave if it gets too crowded or anyone gets cranky.

I can't wait for the grand opening!!! Don't care about the crowds, it will be the first time ever I am at Disney for something like this. We even extended our trip by a few days, originally supposed to leave on the 5th.

Like a lot of others, I am excited that our plans fell in line with FLE but nervous about the increased crowds.

I hope the have special grand opening type merch! :thumbsup2

We will be there from dec 1st to the 8th! So excited to see FLE! :)
