Who is Lord Buckethead?

Lord Buckethead joins the ranks of Elmo, The Flying Brick and Screaming Lord Such on the forefront of British Politics in the latest election.

He may be evil, but he has my vote.

That's who I actually thought he was at first. I thought he was some kind of mascot until I read about this.

My daughter is a British Government buff. Her description of Lord Buckethead is the British version of Pat Paulsen. For those of you old enough to remember Pat Paulsen. He was a comedian who ran for President as a joke every election from 1968 until 1996. He died in 1997. He came in second in New Hampshire in 1996 to Bill Clinton, and got more votes than several legitimate candidates.

I know that Snow White created a Prince Buckethead to amuse herself as she toiled in the castle as her stepmother's scullery maid. Never heard of Lord Buckethead, though.

This type of thing is a bug, or feature (depending on your point of view), of the British single-member constituency, proportional representation, parliamentary system: weird, joke candidates not only get votes, but get seats. In the US, third parties (let alone fourth parties and fifth parties and sixth seventh and eighth parties) don't stand a chance.
