Who is destashing in 2010?

Awesome!

I don't have brand name stuff so I'd guess it's not worth consigning. But I did fill 2 bags for goodwill today!

At the sale that I participate in, you can sell any brands. There's everything from 50 cent t-shirts and shorts to $20 sets. But the store I go to says no "store" labels like Target. Having said that, I think it depends on what she is seeing come in, because I have shopped there and seen those labels. So if your things are in nice shape, it could never hurt to check.

We destashed the childrens rooms yesterday. We ended up with 3 bags for goodwill and one bag for the garbage man. I think our biggest struggle will be our room.

I sorted through the pantry and the spice cabinet and threw away some expired items and pulled out everything that is near it's date so we can make it or use it. .

How long do y'all keep spices?
(I have some without expiration dates so that must be a clue they should go! :confused3:scared1: )

Picked up my check from selling kids clothing and toys at a local church consignment sale. It was enough for one night at POFQ (with a code :) ) You know you have it bad when you convert $ amounts into how much Disney fun they are worth.

My DH went to help his dad empty stuff out of his attic. I strictly forbade him from bringing anything home with him unless it was valuable and he intended to sell it. We have enough junk of our own to get rid of. I don't need my FIL's clutter in my home! DH was disciplined and resisted. He even came home and worked in the basement a bit and found some stuff to throw out. :thumbsup2

It's good to know I am not the only one who does this!:lmao:

Been putting up my spring decorations this morning because I am sick of winter! As I move around the house, I have been picking up stuff to trash or donate. Good thing DH is not home now, because he always picks on me when I get in this mode. At least I'm making progress.

:rotfl: I do the same Disney fun conversion!!!!! Which none of my friends quite understand...

Regarding the spices and similar things, if they don't have an expiration date on them, I use a sharpie and write the date that I opened them. I figure if I haven't used them in a year, it might be time for fresh. Now if I open them and the smell is still strong, I might keep them longer.

Sold another 50 comic books and made just under 50.00 dollars!!!

The pile is getting smaller:cool1:

I did make a little progress yesterday. I got the extra shelving unit down and out of my office and worked on my closest a bit too.

I'm really backed up on laundry since we had the vent fixed (takes long to dry now that the hose is connected to the outside! LOL) so I've been focusing on getting all that done and folded and put away.

Tomorrow is the day I'll be tackling YDD's room. Wish me luck!

I finally went through my side of the closet today. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I found a couple shirts to give to my DD (she's growing much too fast), a couple skirts that I put on craigslist and a shirt for ebay. I still have a dress to list. I'm really on a push to declutter this week since Dh's hours were cut this month I'm trying to make enough to cover our car payment without hitting the EF which is already lower than I'd like it to be.:headache:

I also went through my youngest Ds's closet and had him try on clothes this morning. Hopefully I can get his outgrown clothes put on craigslist today or tomorrow, but I have to go through them and see if there's anything worth selling. If not they'll go in my goodwill pile.

Got rid of a bike today. :goodvibes

I'm also decluttering my spices by substituting. :goodvibes

My girls and I were working on decluttering a big closet in our bonus room. I found a poncho that my grandmother had crocheted nearly 40 years ago for me when I was a little girl. My youngest DD loved it and is going to wear it to school tomorrow (I had to wash it really quick!).

We also tossed a bag of stuff and are donating another bag of things.

Cleaning out our spare room, I noticed an interesting phenomenon. All the cardboard boxes I had saved to organize our clutter some day had become clutter of its own!

This week they are off to be recycled!

I am not ready to clean out my closet, but know that it is a must in the near future (ugh). Even worst is having to clean carpets. I have off-white carpeting throughout and dread having to clean them, but today I just pulled out the Bissell and away I went. Wow, one thing done and Spring isn't even here yet!!

I read that several folks have limited places to put things and that is why they are decluttering. I have the opposite problem. My house is huge and we have lived here for over 33 years so it has accumulated layer after layer of stuff, not the "Hoarders" level as we have a lot of closets but way too much stuff to take care of.

I have been slowly clearing out things the past couple of years and it is such a freeing feeling.

The problem is that I am now getting down to things that I cannot bear to take to San Souci or to the dump. They are things that once meant the world to me but I have no need for anymore. I have found homes for some of my orphans but have many boxes of records, movies, Disney stuff etc. and am in a quandary as to what to do with them. Yard sales, E Bay etc. have all occurred to me but my energy level is too low to do the hard work that would entail.

I applaud those of you who have changed their lifestyle in their younger years. It is much easier to do then and then you have all those years freed up to enjoy rather than taking care of 'stuff".

Wow, 33 years, congrats! Only about 20 years here but I do KWYM . Too many items that still mean ALOT, to both my DH and I.
And IF we have room for them, and we do, I keep them. I've weeded out a little but really, IF there's room for them and they're not getting in out way (they're not) then why not keep them?

Slightlygoofy- 33 years is a lot to go through, so take it slow. I'm going extremely slow ;) and we've been here only 5 years.

I have a birthday party on Saturday for youngest daughter, so I need to clean again. Tomorrow, we're taking a box spring and mattress set to the dump and get it out of the garage.

I'll schedule a professional carpet cleaning for April. Today, I'm going through both kids paperwork. It's quite a bit, but I'll only keep the special projects and papers that she'll be happy to look at once she's older.

I hope to update more often now.

Congratulations on all your progress! I noticed you have lost weight, too...do you think the two are related?

Something similar happened to me...I realized that I was saving the "better" xerox boxes...for WHAT?! :scared1:

Just some suggestions: If you think they may be worth money, there may be antique dealers around that deal in those type of things (check in your phone book or online), they might be willing to come out and just make you an offer on the whole bunch. Or if you are not concerned with money, I belong to a local Freecycle group. If I want to give away something all I do is post it, reply to an email from someone in the group who wants it, let them pick it up, and post a "taken". Easy to do and someone who wants it can come get it. Oh, and somewhere on these boards there is a swap board...maybe that would be interesting!
