Who is destashing in 2010?

Good morning budget buddies...

Took 2 bags to resale shop yesterday, another $60! Add that to the $90 I got last weekend it pays for Addie's surprise dinner at CRT in Sept!

I saved all of DD's old Hanna Andersson clothes and put them on Craigslist - had to pull the ad in 12 hours so many replies! I now have a mini Hanna store set up in my dining room and the first appointment is at 4pm today (a repeat customer from last year!) Wish me luck !!$$$$!!!! She bought a ton of infant stuff when she was pregnant last year so I am hoping for repeat success! After her I have 2 other local moms who want to look at the stuff ASAP.

Now if I could just get DD to give up her Kettler air-happy trike that would bring in some serious $$! The woman who is coming today has a DD that is too young for the trike, I am hoping she will look at it and offer to buy it in the off season for next year.

Just got rid of another kitchen item that was just collecting dust, and an exercise step and some weights. Thanks CL for making life less cluttered. popcorn::

Do you dump all of your VHS tapes?

I have so many, hardly any of them have even the jackets or covers anymore. The kids want to keep them all but they rarely watch them.

What do you do?

Dawn

We gave them all to the battered women's shelter. Along with the VHS player. They were very happy to get them.

I donated a bunch to our local Library. They were glad to get them! Lots of people still have VHS players in their homes and vehicles.

ETA- I don't know about ones with missing jackets though. I guess you could call and ask.

I have been donating a large bag a day about 3 days a week. We are in doctor's/dentists appointment season and it's cutting into my de-stashing time. Ugh. I have been taking clothes to consignment and so far, I've made $100! I have some more kids clothes to weed through to take to consignment. I can barely count that though, because I have been replacing the things the kids need for the summer too.

Drum roll please.....

She went though all the baby/toddler clothes I had... she spent $251! :yay:
And I still have a ton of Hanna clothes left and a list of people interested in them! :woohoo:

Quickly doing mental conversion into Disney hotel nights...that's about 2 nights at a moderate, off peak with a good code....WOW! Congrats!!

Michelle...that's great! :thumbsup2

I am very, very pleased with the consignment sale! I worked my shift in the morning and saw some of my stuff going out the door, which is always a great feeling. Then last night I went to pick up what didn't sell and it looks like a good ¾ of it sold! I have no idea what sold for full price or ½ price, but either way, Disney money is coming and that stuff is out! So now I've sorted out about 12 things to drop off at the consignment store. I'm happy! :cool1:

So now, it's yard sale prep and donation time...

Sold another 50 comic books and made just under 50.00 dollars!!!

The pile is getting smaller:cool1:

Where do you sell them? DH has a bunch of old comics. I'm guessing they are worth next to nothing, but if we could get even a few bucks for them I'd be thrilled!

I am really in the mood to do some decluttering. I'm so ready to get rid of a lot of the stuff that I'm willing to give every thing to Goodwill or Salvation Army but since we are going to WDW in October, I decided to try and sell some of it.

My problem is that we don't have a ton of consignment stores around here, and I have a lot of little boy clothes, a few pieces of furniture and bunches of toys in good condition. Do you guys think I should do a yard sale? I've had mild success in the past but the biggest issue is where to spread it out to get ready for it.

I haven't gotten any momentum built up yet, but it's my plan to destash my little corner of Hoosierville in the next week or so.

Nice to see another Hoosier working up the courage to breakout the Spring cleaning :) If only the weather would stay Spring'ish and stop toying with 30's and dreary

If you itemize on your taxes, you might do better taking a tax deduction for donating the clothing instead of getting yard sale prices for it. The amount you can deduct for clothing is more than you would think. Run the numbers through "It's Deductible", a free online charitable donation tracker. It will suggest values for donated items.

I am WAY behind here, but DH and I will be decluttering in four weeks (during spring break - I'm a teacher). This will be our sixth year in our house, and we've NEVER decluttered (and even though there's only two of us, we've collected A TON!!!). We're renting a dumpster (got lots of outside cleanup to do, too!). I'll be taking all clothes to Goodwill or a consignment shop (one just opened relatively nearby)...I'm actually really looking forward to it - I want to live a simpler life - less STUFF!!!

We do itemize. Do they give receipts at Goodwill or Salvation Army? Last time I was there we just dumped and left.

At our local Goodwill they give a blank receipt that just shows you made a donation. It does not specify what you donated. It is up to you to make a list ahead of time and value the donation. That's where the It's Deductible application comes in. You can enter in the number of pants, shirts, dresses etc and their condition category (a new item would be valued more than a "good" item) and it will assign values for you.

Haven't posted in a long time...just want to post to encourage everyone...have been listing furniture and old electronics on craigslist and having great success lighting the future moving load. YAY! My one word of advice would be to not over-value your stuff. Think of a number that if you were to WANT to buy it, what would be a steal of a deal? Even if it seems like such a little amount...simple examples...sold an 8-year old 27" TV for $25...an 8-year old 13" TV/VCR combo for $10...a very old dual cassette tape deck for $20...big desk for $30...short tv armoire for $50...

Listed 7 items on craigslist yesterday, sold 5 already. One lady, she wanted the armoire that I sold two years ago but could justify the cost, so she passed on it. It was about $140 when I bought it on sale, sells now for $189 at Target...she was SO excited to see my listing...

Let go of how much you paid for it, it feels SO GOOD to make someone else's day, to just get rid of the excess in your life, and to get some extra money...

The destashing continues...

:surfweb: I'm bored with sorting stuff...it's so tempting to slide back...:scared1:

Quick!!! How's everyone doing?! I need some inspiration!
