Who is destashing in 2010?

ok i have been doing this for the past few weeks and have even motivated my mum. my problem is i have three bags of clothes/shoes/acc. and dont know what to do. one pair of shoes is brand new and another was worn once and i have three handbags that are almost new etc. is it worth the time to try to sell on ebay or just donate? i tried to donate them once and the thrift shop donation door was closed and they had a confusing list of items they did not want. i would hate to find out i dontate them and they are tossing the stuff in the end b/c they have too much.

anyone find a new way to organize the stuff you have while de-stashing? i decided to get big tupperware bins to store the clothes on my shelves that always attack me, it has changed my life i think! i just pull down bin, get shirt, put back with no mound trying to burry me alive.

Got out of work early and worked on our spare room. Thought I would declutter more than I did but a lot of it just needs to be put into it's place. Do have some to take 2nd hand store and a bag not quite full of trash. Did find something interesting, a mostly empty trash bag with trash in it. Seems as though I must have started previosuly :rotfl::lmao:
Have lots left but can see a dent. :hippie:

I have probably a car's worth of stuff for a local children's charity. It's mostly clothes, equipment, toys, etc. and I'm collecting it for the Give a Day promo. Anyway, it will be great to give it to a place that needs it. My kids are getting older, and I don't mind the closet space.

I do have a question--any idea what to do with old baby bottles/sippy cups and play-dough containers? None of them are recycleable, and I don't want to hang onto them forever. But, then, I don't really want to throw them out. I had a somewhat bad experience with freecycle, so I'm hesitant, but that might be my only route. Thanks!

Preschool or daycare may like the play-doe containers to put water in while painting or put craft supplies in if you have the covers too.

Did some major cleaning of paper clutter. 98% of it was kids school work and old coupons :scared1: A little disappointed that I missed the $1 off detergent that I just bought Sat but non the less all that paper is out of here and managed to ony salvage 4 art projects that were promptly put into frames that I dug up while cleaning out a hall closet & a cormer in the garage :woohoo:

My Dh is out of town tonight, and my daughter will probably be staying at my sister's house again. So it will just be me and the newborn. I plan on working in my dh and my bedroom. I don't know how much stuff I can get rid of but there are a lot of things to be put away. Hopefully a few things will be able to come out. keep up the good work!

Thanks for all the congrats everyone.

:yay: Yay!! I just took about 60 items to the drop off for the consignment sale. Now they are out of my house and hopefully $$$ will be coming in!

Awesome!

I don't have brand name stuff so I'd guess it's not worth consigning. But I did fill 2 bags for goodwill today!

Is it kids clothes? I just took 2 bags of DD's summer clothes to a resale shop that pays cash up front (Children's Orchard), got $90! There was a bunch of Gap jeans and some Crocs, but the rest was Old Navy and Target! I am trying to sell the name brand stuff like Hanna Andersson and Gymboree through a Yahoo Group on another board since the stuff is in awesome condition. I have another appt this Friday for 2 more bags and keeping my fingers crossed for at least $70! They aren't buying winter stuff right now, so I have those bags stuffed, labeled and stored away for when they start buying that in August.

I do get a little less $$ per item bringing it to a resale shop vs a consignment store, but I get cash up front and it only takes me a 30 min appointment vs waiting for a check. Plus the consignment store closest to me requires everything to be on hangers and if it doesn't sell, they donate it, so in the long run I may be breaking even. Too much of a hassle to bring it on hangers, the resale shop I sell at wants it in kitchen trash bags. Much easier!

Picked up my check from selling kids clothing and toys at a local church consignment sale. It was enough for one night at POFQ (with a code :) ) You know you have it bad when you convert $ amounts into how much Disney fun they are worth.

I do something similar, I convert my earnings (clothing resale, craigslist, etc) into airline tickets and timeshare exchange fees-LOL!

It's spring break here this week. I had a contest with my kids to see who could declutter the most. They were doing their rooms and I was doing the garage. In two days we had 22 bags to take to goodwill! And the scary thing is that I'm not done with the garage yet. And the girls beat me by one bag so I ended up taking them out for ice cream last night. :thumbsup2

22 bags out of my house!!!! YES!!!!

Wow, cool!
So mind me ask what all did you get rid of? I'm always curious when y'all have so many bags. We're constantly destashing but I don't think we've had that many bags totally, let alone in one trip!

22 bags that is awesome.!!!!!

DH and I try to keep up with everything but I am a keeper of crap, who knows why I do it but I do. I am really good at shredding files and paperwork with our information on it and I recycle the shred. But for some reason I keep, things from places that we go to, trinkets and bags and anything that is unique to that place.

I will get tired of it and have a throw away party (as DH calls it and if anything is not put away it goes in the trash) Kids hide during that time, I think they are scared they will be thrown out too!!!

Anyway, I am up for the challenge to stay on top of it all year long.:yay:

Mostly outgrown clothes, outgrown toys and my biggest one is my craft supplies. I've finally decided that I can't keep the items around for maybe one day. If I'm not currently using it, it goes. I may regret it later but for now, it sure feels good!

Fabric.....lots and lots of fabric!

This evening I was able to clean up the sidecounter. Threw some, shredded some, organized and put away stuff. Mostly paper stuff. Looks better but not done. Still need to finish cats room but I HATE going in there. ;)

The Big Brothers/Big Sisters called yesterday to see if I had any clothes to donate - even though I didn't have anything ready, I said yes. They said they would be in my neighborhood tomorrow. So .........

I finally bit the bullet and bagged up all of my "big" clothes. Don't get me wrong - I'm still a plus-size, but I had an entire wardrobe of clothes from 40 pounds ago. I don't know why I held on to them, I certainly have no intention of ever fitting back into them. But I've had them in my spare closet for a few years now.

Grand total - 5 big black garbage bags of clothes. Good stuff too, some still with tags.

Thought about putting them on CL, but I can see me putting that off and having them go right back in the closet. ;)

The bolded part is me me ME ! Glad someone else is like that too but I wanna stop being like that! But how? All those little keepsakes don't take that much room and they have such special memories!

Good for you! :thumbsup2 I wish I could be more like that -almost like ruthless - because the bolded part is me, ugh, I throw out or start to, but then re think and bring stuff back, ugh, I'm so sick of that, too.

Anyone have any advice? I was doing so well but now I'm just stuck, :headache:

I too went through all of my cloths tonight. Got a BIG trash bag full of stuff to donate. Want to get the hubs to go through his stuff tomorrow and then together we can hopefully go through the kids stuff on friday. :goodvibes

Keep up the good work everyone! :thumbsup2

I pulled out the kids' spring and summer stuff to see what they need. Not much, really. I've started pulling the too-small things out from the clean laundry and have 3 stacks of that going right now - one for my sister's kids, one for a friend, and one to donate. Hopefully, that will free up some room in the kids' dressers for their summer stuff. I think my older son has enough summer things to outfit 3 kids, because we get so many hand-me-downs! So I am going to go through his summer things and pare that pile down, as well. I try to have a donation bag going all the time so that any time a charity calls, I just tell them yes. It also motivates me to get this stuff out of my house. I have a hard time giving away younger DS's clothes, though. I guess it's because he's my baby and I remember older DS wearing them, and there's a lot of emotion attached to them, especially when I realize that I won't see any of my kids in them again. Sounds silly, I guess! It is nice to free up that storage space, though!

Ok I have two basement closets I'm making the goal for this weekend!

So a friend came by and bought some clothes for her daughter. She didn't take as many things as I was hoping, but I got rid of about 8 things and got 12 bucks for the Disney fund. Either tomorrow or Monday a bunch of maternity clothes are headed to the consignment shop, because I shouldn't need them again.
