Who has a Kindle? (wireless reading device)

I really want a Kindle but I always borrow books from the library. I probably read one book a week so that would be about 24 dollars a month. Not bad at all since I probably spend that much a week in lunch.

I just can't get myself to do when I can get library books for free. Someone convince me!

Just re-read the whole thread! It sent me over the top.

Papa, I saw it on Oprah and wanted to get it. I just kept telling myself how cheap the library is...but I REALLY want one....lol

...

I believe I read that none of the books are over $9.99, the newspaper subs are about $13/month.

....
Does Barnes and Noble sell them? I was just in there yesterday, and I forgot to check.

$13 seems expensive to me for that... especially since I get the newpaper mostly for the food coupons.

Ok, here's a reason for you to switch :rotfl: :

You're in your pajamas at 9pm and you just finished your last library book. You're not tired and want to continue reading something, but the library's closed & remember, you're in your pajamas!

If you had a Kindle, you could download a lot of samples of different books you've been curious about, without having to spend a single cent. All while sitting in your pajamas at 9pm. ;)

Granted, the library is free; however, you have to consider the gas you use to drive there, the times the library is open for use, keeping track of due dates & possible late fees if you don't get the chance to finish a book in time, and the fact that you can't really go to the library in your pajamas.

Can you tell I'm a fan of sitting in my pajamas? :lmao:

Most of the books I've purchased were books I would've purchased anyhow, but I had the chance to sample them first to be sure I would like them. Plus, I very rarely pay over $6 for a book, and it'll never fall apart on me with repeated readings, which is something I tend to do with certain books.

The dictionary has come in handy many times with just a couple clicks of the wheel, rather than having to grab a dictionary if I run into a word I'm not familiar with.

I can adjust the font size which has greatly reduced eye strain, allowing me to read longer than before. And now my bookcases can be freed up for other things---I don't know what yet, but I'm sure I'll think of something. ;)

Wow, I ordered mine on Saturday and according to Amazon it's not going to ship until November 24th!

Behold the power of Oprah :rotfl:

Yay! So now we're both on Kindle watch!

I "casually" mentioned it to my DH the other day to see if he'd let me get it (we also check with each other before making a large purchase). I waited a day and then I ordered it. He laughed at me when I was talking to him earlier because he said he knew I'd be ordering it. I told him I couldn't pass up the $50 discount. :thumbsup2

I kept telling The Muffin I wanted one but he never took the hint. Finally for our anniversary I started REALLY MAKING IT CLEAR: I WANT A KINDLE. He said if you want it get it so I did. Good thing I told him a couple days later that I had because he was bidding on them on eBay :sad2:

a friend pointed out one disadvantage. When the electronics have to be turned off on the plane :scared:

ok, small disadvantage and hopefully short duration too!!

Oh that MAKES ME CRAZY!!! And they seem to take forever to get to the point you can turn it back on :sad2: That's what I brought it for, to keep me occupied all that time

I ordered on Wednesday and used the free super saver shipping.

We ordered one the other day (with the $50 off deal) and it arrived today. It's a gift but I have to learn how to use it first so I can teach my MIL. :lmao:

Surely one can turn off the wireless part and be able to use it onboard except during initial take off and landing.

I want one, but it's kinda out of my price range right now, I'm gonna put it on my xmas list for dh to get it.

Mine is a Xmas gift from DH! But, I didn't wait to open it. It's really easy to use. Your MIL will love it.

They cost about the same $350ish. Oprah is giving a $50 discount on the Kindle for the next couple days. Go to Oprah.com for the discount code.

Thanks DisneyKevin! I ordered a Kindle on Friday and got the notice that it has shipped! I can't wait for it to get here! I told my DH (Kevin too!) that I took care of my Anniversary and Christmas present from him! :rotfl:

$50 off code was the kicker!

Yes, I think that is the case. The entire unit has to be turned off only during takeoff and landing. Otherwise you can use the Kindle to read during the flight.

I ordered mine on Thursday with Oprah's code. It shipped on Saturday.:thumbsup2

I had it shipped to my mother's house so I could use the wireless downloading in the US. I think you have to connect to a computer overseas to get it to download, so I'll have to load it up in the States.

Would it be rude of me to walk around Barnes and Noble with it and download books?;) :rotfl:

I so want one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .. just can't this year ..
but still trying to learn all about it ...

do you use batteries/// or are they rechargeable batteries ... or
like an IPOD have to charge the whole kindle when power is low .
thanks.

Okay you convinced me :yay: I'm a pajama person too! It didn't take much did it...lol:rolleyes1

Not rude at all. :thumbsup2

It's a rechargeable battery that comes with it. You don't want to drain the battery power before recharging though---I plug mine in overnight every couple days whether it needs it or not. It doesn't take long to charge; in fact, I think my iPod takes longer to charge than my Kindle does. And unlike the iPod, Amazon sells replacement batteries on its website & it's easy to access the compartment.

I just got an e-mail from Amazon saying mine shipped today, and I only ordered it yesterday!!!!!   I did pay for two day shipping, but it said to expect delivery between Nov. 26th and Dec. 1st. Now it says the delivery date is Thursday. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, going to B&N is something Joe and I do every other week. We spend at least two hours, him going one way and me going the other. Both of us are big book readers. I take my Kindle with me and look up the books I want. If I find the Kindle version, I either buy it now or save for later. But not all books are available so I still end up buying something.

I get weird looks sometime but not often.

That's not fair! I paid shipping and ordered 4 days ago and mine hasn't shipped.... :sad2: :)
