Who has a Kindle? (wireless reading device)

Just wanted to say I LOVE MY KINDLE. I've had it since the beginning of October. I love the fact that I don't have to wait to find the time to go to the bookstore to buy a book. I love to read book series. So, it's so nice to just order the next one when I'm done with one. I love being able to change the font size as my eyesight isn't quite what it used to be before 40.:rotfl: I love that I don't have to add to the pile of paperbacks in my closet. The only problem that I have is that I actaully read faster using it and I'm spending a ton of money on books.:rotfl2: Oh well I guess there are worse things in life to be addicted to. If you can afford it, it is a wonderful gift to yourself.

Not rude at all. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 I am so excited!!

Actually, going to B&N is something Joe and I do every other week. We spend at least two hours, him going one way and me going the other. Both of us are big book readers. I take my Kindle with me and look up the books I want. If I find the Kindle version, I either buy it now or save for later. But not all books are available so I still end up buying something.

I get weird looks sometime but not often.

I shall refrain from going for the easy joke(s).:snooty:

Hey, can someone look on their Kindle and tell me if it's 110 volt only or if it's 220 compatible?

According to the user manual the power adaptor is universal and should be fine to use abroad :thumbsup2 The Whispernet is a bit trickier

Here's the manual, page 16 talks about this a bit

The Whispernet isn't available in Europe but you can connect to your own home computer to download books and it's just fine. You just won't be able to use the browser sections

That's a good idea. I'm going to Barnes and Noble later. I'm bringing the Kindle:cool2: I plan on buying a gift for someone anyway plus like you said not all books are available so I'll probably end up buying something too.

I was so excited - as I was driving down the street from voting the UPS man was on my corner. That was over two hours ago and he hasn't been here yet! I thought I'd be reading by now. Kindle watch continues!

Now...here's the big question...

What book do I order for my Kindle first??????

When I was on Amazon reading about the Kindle it said there are about 110 books available at this time. I reading alot of older books now that are about 5-7 years old. I wouldnt want to spend the 350 and not be able to get the books I want. So is there someone where I can investigate a listing of the books available? For example 2 years ago I read East of Eden. Would they have had that book. I know it was a popular book, but yet it's pretty old.

Deb, there are almost 200,000 titles for the Kindle availbale now - not sure where you got the 110 number. Also, there are more than a million titles available for free from various sources. Do a search of the Kindle store to see if various titles are there.

A quick search showed East of Eden available for $2.75 as a Kindle edition. Download a sample first to make sure the format is acceptable. I'm sure there are other Steinbeck offerings and you might be able to find one that has the complete works for a decent rpice.

I got it from here on the Amazon Website:

The Kindle Store offers more than 105 of 112 books currently found on the New York Times® Best Seller list and we’re adding more all the time.

I see now that I misread that the New York Times Best Seller list contains more than 105 books...ugh!

Thanks for the info. I feel much better now! Now I really want it!

The New York Times list may only have 100 - 120 books on it at any given time, but I promise you there are LOADS of great Kindle choices. Go browse around - choose "books", then "Kindle" to get to the Kindle store. Once you are there, choose a category - fiction or non-fiction - then see what kinds of books are listed under your favorites. I search under Bestselling (it's the default) but also by the others as well - you can search by publication date (sometimes a good way to see what's coming out new), average customer review or price - a great way to see what's really inexpensive and sometimes they will offer a new book free for a few days!!!

My Kindle shipped today! :cheer2: Expected delivery date is the 10th, but it's being sent from Jersey City so it shouldn't take that long. I guess I should return the books I just received from Doubleday Book Club - and maybe it's time to cancel my membership!

I cancelled my Mystery Guild membership today. :)

OK. I missed the $50 discount because I couldn't bite the bullet, but I finally gave in and ordered my Kindle. The thing that finally sold me was looking at the list of books available for it.

Whine. Even though I have Amazon Prime (2 day free shipping), they say it won't be shipped until 11/25-29. I hope it's not really that long.

That's what mine was saying as of last night - then I got the shipping notice today. :thumbsup2

Another great thing about the Kindle - it works VERY nicely on the elliptical machine at the gym! I quit taking books with me years ago because I never could keep them stable and they kept falling off. The Kindle sits there and never moves! No need to hold the pages open, either. :thumbsup2

I'm thinking about getting a Kindle, but I was wondering - does anyone think they'll be marked down again before Christmas??

(Missed Oprah's deal - dang!!)

Good question. Not sure. I imagine people will be buying them as gifts so maybe & maybe not.

I know I'm no help with your question:upsidedow

I got mine yesterday and have been reading like a fiend! I love it! I don't find it awkward to hold at all. The only kind of weird thing is when you hit the next page button, it takes a second to get there. Believe me, it's much better than turning a page, but a little slower then when I used to use my Palm Pilot as an ebook reader. Not a deal breaker by any stretch.

The download speed is amazing. I am still in awe of that!

I hope all of you waiting have good luck and the shipping gods are smiling on you!
