Hello,

I am from Edinburgh in the UK and have managed to bag reward seats going from EDI > MCO and then back from IAD > EDI.

That leaves me needing a MCO to IAD(Dulles) flight.

On searching expedia etc, only united comes up with a non-stop flight. Is that it or is there any other airline that does this route nonstop that expedia wont price up with?

Not really interested about service levels etc, simply require a non stop flight for less than the $400 united are asking!

Southwest also flies to Dulles. They seemed to have limited the number of the nonstop flights. Also Jetblue flies to Reagan, which is 40 minutes from Dulles. It may work, but I guess it depends when your flight back to the UK is. Both Southwest tends not to show up on expedia type websites.

Southwest discontinued all of its nonstop flights between Orlando and Dulles approximately two years ago. See, for example, http://www.blogsouthwest.com/blog/new-schedules-available.

It is true that JetBlue has three flights per day between Orlando and Reagan National. But US Airways has six (and AirTran also has a single flight).

PP gave you good information. You can fly into Regan airport and take a shared ride service to Dulles. Allow lots of time. Don't know how long a vacation you're planning. Spending a few days in Washington might be a good idea.

Your choice is to pay $400 (maybe a little less with a sale), book a connecting flight or book a flight into Regan airport then take ground transportation.

edited to add Did you already book your TATL flight? A different departing airport might work better. Sometimes people can piece together an itinerary and book the entire trip on airlines on the same alliance.

Not exactly on topic but I think you should plan on leaving Disney a day sooner and book the MCO to Washington DC flight that arrives at least 24 hours in advance of your IAD to EDI flight.

Without a stopover, too many things can go wrong causing you to miss the IAD to EDI flight and because the MCO to Washington DC flight is a separate itinerary, you would be a no show as opposed to a missed connection.

Keep checking back, such as every Tuesday, for flights. Fares keep changing and you may find that one airline goes on sale. Doing your shopping on Tuesdays and Wednesdays tends to come up with lower fares.

I don't agree at all. Just catch a flight to IAD in the morning. Flights to Europe usually leave from Dulles from the early evening to late evening. There should be plenty of time to make it, even with delays. Who wants to hang out near Dulles for 24 hours, plus have the added expensive of another hotel night?

OP - what dates are you searching for United? I searched for a random date (June 19th) and found one way fares as low as $146.00. If I were you, I would do my best to fly from IAD rather than DCA. It would be a pain going between the two airports.

I'm suggesting a stopover. Spend a day or two actually seeing something. Not sure about transportation but the Air and Space museum is almost next door to Dulles.

Assume the OP has a choice between booking a connecting flight which lands in Dulles or a N/S to Regan. Which would you suggest?

There is a public bus between the airport and the museum; it runs about every 45 minutes on weekdays and every hour on weekends. See http://www.vatransit.org/route maps/Dulles2Dulles.pdf.

Keep in mind is that there is no longer a direct bus between the airports; the public transport option requires taking the Metro from Reagan National to West Falls Church (changing trains at Rosslyn) and then catching a bus. A taxi also could be a slow ride through NoVa traffic, at least until it gets to the Dulles Access Road. Depending on other factors (price, layover time, etc.) a connecting flight to Dulles could be a better option if that's the choice.

thanks for the tips.

I am in orlando for 20 nights and have 2 young children. As Its reward seats I simply took where there was reward availability from the USA to UK.

the flight home from IAD is at 2300ish. So have plenty of time. The best flight by timing is the UA mid afternoon one but thats got limited availability and is $379 each. THe early morning one is only $90 each! Will probably take that one, but then have 12hours in Dulles to kill and with the early start from Orlando, likely very tired kids by the end of it! Could go into the city, but with 2 little ones and 4 large bags, that would be hard!

As for a suggestion to spend a few nights in DC. No chance my DW will entertain that. All time spent away from orlando is wasted time in her book!

Might do the jetblue to Reagan route and get a taxi to at least see some of the city from a window!

Anyway. Thanks again
