Zatarans!

John uses Zataran's Jambalaya mix and then adds the shrimp, kielbasa and mushrooms to it. It's really good!

John's parents are the ones having issues right now. Mine have been seperated for years. John's Dad lives with us all summer and winter's at his sister's house in Florida. John's Mom was the one who messed up. She ran away about three years ago and left us to clean up the mess.

John's mom now realizes she misses us and wants to come home.

We will only promise her a temporary place.

We cannot say no.

Mom knows Dad is away.

Mom wants to use the space Dad has left.

Mom in our case is probably the same as your dad is to you right now.

We all have our issues.

We all have different issues.

I am glad to have you all to help vent my issues.

Love you all, Mean It!

Dang Colleen - I'm sorry you're having to go through such a time with your parents.

I live a mile from my father and (step) mother and get along GREAT with them. My mother (sadly) died young.

John sounds like he's been cooking up a storm. Wish I could have the jambalaya...danged ol' allergies!

I've made two items that will keep nicely for Thanksgiving - to get them out of the way. Mac & Cheese - a staple on any Southern Thanksgiving table and it's currently in my parents fridge and two fudge brownie pies were just removed and are cooling.

Tomorrow, I'll make the brine, two more pies, get the menus printed, pick up more wine glasses (I have 8 white, 8 red and need 14 of each!) and buy one more serving dish in white (I recently switched my dinner ware so I'm buying serving stuff to catch up).

Oiy - I'm rambling! CADZ - I hope your back feels better - I'm sure the board is lovely.

Robin - you've been quiet today, too. We're missing quite a few DISers (like I'm one to talk)

PC - I read about Oprah's show on-line at USA Today. Sorry you missed it. If I ever attend that particular show, I hope her favorite things are diamonds and trips! Although, I'd be grateful for anything - it's incredibly generous of her.

Well, I've gotta scoot...gonna spend some time with Honey!

I can handle the family issues, it's John and Adrian that I am worried about...

It's good to see you post Ann! I eat enough seafood and cinnamon for both of us, you do a great job working around them.

We watched Emeril do his brine and turkey yesterday. John amd I have been watching Rachel together too. Your cooking is like my photography. You do what you love and excel at it~enjoy~

Just stopinn by!

Been crazy bizze.
Party went great!

Makie giggled all day!:cloud9:   the attention! :lmao:

hi ya'll....the open house went really well....had many potential new students (& parents) go through....i talked a lot with so many about the "Salesian's Abroad" program. And the board turned out really well....looks almost like a large scrapbook page :)

My back does feel better - thanks!! the Aleve & heating pad worked well~
Oh Colleen....i'm SOOOO sorry that John isn't going....the only consolation is that you'll have a great mother/son trip. that's very nice of you to take MIL in for awhile till she gets settled...esp under all those circumstances....

DU - so glad the party went well & Makenzie enjoyed it all. What an awesome Uncle you are to do all that for her....she will grow up to appreciate you as much as James does!!!

Think i'm going to bed 'really early' tonite - like any minute now...started a new book last night...so want to read awhile...& just don't want to watch any TV...

catch you l8r~

Hi all.

Colleen and Cally, so sorry you are dealing with the fallout of divorce/separation. I hope that things will work out the best for all involved.

Hey Ann, sounds like you are having fun cooking up a storm. Also sounds like you are really into the "presentation" of your meals. I suppose it all sort of goes together.

Me, I just cook it and throw it all out there on the table and say "come and get it" :lmao:

DU, sounds like Makenzie had the first in a hopefully long line of successful birthday parties. :thumbsup2

We had a birthday party here today too. Today is Alex's 24th birthday. We had the grandparents over for dinner along with Alex's girlfriend and Liz's boyfriends, so a total of 9 people.

Brenda, it's good that your back is feeling better. Sore backs are no fun at all.

/
We're here for ya Colleen

Ann, we're busting out the chinet! :lmao: I save the dishwasher for pots, pans, and serving ware....

DU~ looking forward to the pics!! :goodvibes It's crazy in the grocery stores these days....Stay warm!

Brenda, glad everything went well. You enjoy your book and get some rest!

we do Zatarans... maybe next time we'll try adding some shrimp, kielbasa..etc.

Thanks Robin.

Looks like we do the same thing as far as presenting our food

Happy 24th Birthday Alex! :cheer2:

Liz's boyfriends,

Robin, was this a typo or are you just not telling us something :)

As long as I get my Disney I can roll with pretty much anything that gets thrown at me...you all are a great support system :grouphug:

I *was* reading in bed. I got up to refill my cup and the big dog rolled over into my spot and won't move~she's lucky I like her ;) :dog:

Robin, was this a typo or are you just not telling us something :)

Oooppss, yes that was a typo:lmao:

She only has ONE boyfriend, at least as far as I know;)

Colleen, I see that it is only 19 days till your trip.

How can John back out so close to departure date:confused3

Don't you lose a lot of money from plane tickets, tour tickets, prepurchased park admissions etc..

I think I'd kill mine if he did that to me.

I wouldn't stay home of course but I'd be pretty peeved at him.

I knew that was a typo, it was funny :lmao:

I can't be upset with him, his mother called last night to ask him to help her "move and btw can I stay with you for awhile." It is still early enough for me to get my tour money back, I haven't purchased any park tickets and the airfare he will use to go see his father early next year.

and like you said, I'M STILL GOING!

Adrian and I are going to have a great time. We can bond...he's 22, and alot like Liz, he enjoys going to FL. I love having John around but when he's worried about stuff he gets very intense. He needs some time with his mom and I support him in whatever decision he makes.

OMG! You guys are SO funny about the presentation! My sister's rag on me about cloth napkins and not using paper plates! I enjoy it and....drum roll....I don't do the dishes!

DH told me when we first married that (on Thanksgiving and Christmas) if I'm going to spend DAYS cooking in the kitchen, the least he can do is the dishes. I've not done the dishes on Thanksgiving or Christmas since I got married!

Colleen - it sounds like you've got everything in balance grasshopper! I know it's difficult to bite your tongue sometimes - but you'll come out the winner in the end. You know, I never likened cooking to photography, but you may be onto something there! (I miss cinnamon this time of year *sigh*)

Robin - I didn't know that Alex was 24 already....where did the time go? How nice that he was home for that day! Is he engaged yet? Your cruise is coming up soon. I keep checking for 2009 dates, but I think I'm going to have to wait until the new year.

CADZ - I'm glad your boards went well. This open house (I have a feeling I missed something while I was gone) is it for studies abroad? I lived in Italy for 3 years and LOVED it! How's the book? What is the book?

DisUnc - I'm glad Mackenzie had a happy time! I can't wait to see the pictures. I admire all you (and DalPal) do for your parents, especially at this time when they don't recognize what you do. You're a keeper!

Cally - Have you ever had fried turkey before? I've heard it's amazing....make sure ya'll are SAFE! I do NOT want you posting that your house burned down on Thanksgiving day!

Well, I've got a ton of things to do today, so I better get started! Ya'll take care and I'll chat with you later!

Good Morning TKers....:surfweb:
It sounds like everyone is ready for TK....:goodvibes
I have it easy this year....MY DIL and DS are having it at their house....
All I have been asked for is a baked ham..(EASY)...and wine..(EVEN EASIER):teeth:

I LOVE cloth napkins Ann,...and I get teased about doing up my table on holidays...I go out and buy nice flower arrangements and candles and all the little things....There is nothing nicer then a well set table, befor everyone sits down to eat...:thumbsup2
I have as a matter of fac, I bought a big mum plant for Lori, as a thank you for having the dinner this year...;)

Well I woke up to about 6 inches of snow here, and its still snowing...:santa:
Good thing the lawn chairs and things got put away...
Mike and Julia did it for me yesterday...as I was cooking a big porkchop supper ...It was a replacement for the TK dinner we wont be having with the girls...as they are staying home for TK and putting their tree up( its their tradition)...
We dont put ours up until 2-3 weeks befor...
The snow looks very pretty, but I could do without it,.... to tell the truth...;)

Du,
Cant wait for the pics of your party...I bet she had a blast!...I mean who doesnt like lots of attention on their Birthday!:goodvibes

Robin,
Happy Birthday to Alex...Sounds like you had a very nice celebration dinner....:thumbsup2

Colleen,
Too bad about DH not going....Is he going with you on the cruise?.....
Im sure you and your DS will have a good time tho...:goodvibes
I hope all goes well with DMIL moving in...You all are very good...I would have a very hard time being forgiving enough to let her stay....You all have very BIG hearts:hug: ....:thumbsup2 She is very lucky;)

Brenda,
I love the pics of you ...Its nice to be able to put a face to the name!

Susan, Mary, PD, Kim, Rory,GP, UM....:wave2:...Hope you all had a good weekend and are doing well.....
If you can when you get the chance???? PLEASE!.....
post.....POST......POST!....We miss you

Im still doing my Hawaii research....Wow ..according to the book Im reading...The poor people...have been pretty much taken over by most who have gone there....in history...
There are very few natives left...not just the people, but the wildlife and the plants.....Its kind of sad....
BUT boy some of the pictures I have been coming up with are just so beautiful...If I ever make it there...Im going to be sure to play in one of their waterfalls...AND horseback ride in the surf...:thumbsup2

I uploaded some pictures yesterday...Ill try to post some befor the end of today....IF I can get all the cleaning done that was left from yesterday....We were a messy bunch this weekend for some reason:laundy: :scared: :confused3

Have a great day ya'll...and Ill be back...:teleport:

TTFN..:wave2:

Your cruise is coming up soon. I keep checking for 2009 dates, but I think I'm going to have to wait until the new year.

Ann, Rick was just wondering one day last week if you and Tom would go on another cruise.

I was able to tell him that yes, indeed you had cruising plans for the future:thumbsup2

Rick always likes to remember Tom on the ship at dinner ::yes::

He remembers the rapt look on Tom's face as he was saying MMMM..... MMMMM......... MMMMM........MMMMMM.........MMMMMM..... that sure tastes good:rotfl2:

We think and talk about cruising with all of you often.

Brenda, I just wanted to say thanks for the pictures tool. That sounds like a very nice place to go.

Colleen, we always buy nonrefundable plane tickets because they are cheaper. It would cost quite a bit if we were to have to reschedule a flight. I know that you will enjoy your time with Adrian. There won't be too many more opportunities to have that alone time together.

Have fun with your cleaning today Betsy and enjoy your snow. :)

Just doing a drive by!

1 foot of SNOW:scared1: :headache: here!

DU - so glad the party went well & Makenzie enjoyed it all. What an awesome Uncle you are to do all that for her....she will grow up to appreciate you as much as James does!!!

They better!!!! I tell them that i will sponge off of them in my old age. :thumbsup2
Unfortunatel there are a long line of spongers in the family!:lmao:

WOW Ann...HOW NICE your hubby is doing all those dishes!!!! We use the cloth napkins & holiday themed linens as well...think it really adds to the table~everyone really pitches into help clearing table etc., but i load the dishwasher..i'm particular about what goes in & what is handwashed - so just easier for me to do that~

Betsy - thanks...thought i had posted photos from NYC...maybe you didn't get to see those...??

Back is a little sore again...more Advil today...i think that massage i have scheduled for Friday afternoon after shopping at Santana Row will be greatly needed!!!

The Open House was the school's annual open house for prospective new students (mostly 8th graders & their parents come thru) for tour of the school & to learn about extra curriculars that St. Francis has to offer. One of the programs is the opportunity to travel to a foreign country the summer between Jr. & Sr. years. I am coordinating that trip this next June as my DS is a Jr., and our class voted to go to Italy (so far all the classes have)...but they could choose other countries. So i was at the Open House manning that booth~a great turn out!

Reading "Dying for Chocolate" by a new author i've never read; don't remember her name & so far it's okay...i really like to read so i do read a lot!
